Need to authorize a computer to my itunes account

I need to authorize a computer for my itunes account,  Does anyone know how to do it

Gilly,
Install iTunes on your new computer, and open it.  To authorize, go to the Store menu item on the iTunes menu bar, and choose "Authorize This Computer..." as shown below.
If by any chance you don't see the menu bar ("File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Help"), first enable it by using CTRL+B.

i need to authorize my new computer to my itunes account and im not sure how to do that

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • HT204074 I am trying to download apps to the iPad that we just purchased from iTunes.   I click on all the apps I want downloaded and it keeps telling me I need to authorize this computer .  I have done what they told me to do and still wont let me downlo

I am trying to downloadapps onto the iPad we just purchased, and it keeps telling me that I need to authorize my computer.  I go ahead and authorize by going into iTunes/store/authorize computer, I verify the information that is given.  I go back and try to redownload the apps and I get the same exact message, this computer is not authorized for this device.  What am I doing wrong?

I have been trying to work through this problem by myself and have so far downloaded the most current version of iTunes.  Frome there when it tells me I have to authorize this computer, I had to not put in the iPad information, I had to authorize with my current iTunes information, and any iPad or iPod, iPhone information.  I have several people in the family that have different accounts, so I had to authorize each and every individual account because I didnt know which apps or music was purchased under which user.  Hope this helps others....  Good luck!!

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

Thanks for the question. I understand you are having issues with Authorizing your computer to play content. The following articles may help to resolve this issue:

Hi Roger, Many thanks I found the authorization section activated it and it was confirmed by itunes. But then I encountered another problem as attempting to sync my computer to my ipad i still received the same notification that it was not authorized so I really would not know how to rectify that so any assistance would be appreciated,
    Thanks John
I was under the impression that once you had authorised the computer, transferring purchased and other songs to your iPod/iPad wasa then straightforward. However it gets more complicated with apps, and as I don't have an iOS device I can't advise. You've actually asked in the forum for questions about these forums, and you would do better to ask in the iPad forum, where people who actually have these toys hang out.

  • TS2776 i now have window 8 however itunes keeps giving me a message that i need to authorize this computer how do i do this

new to windows 8 im getting a message that says i need to authorize this computer how do i do this  using my ipod

You wouldn't be able to authorize your computer using your iPod, but Apple does have an article that can get iTunes to shut up about authroization (especially when it's already authorized, but iTunes gets confused for some reason).

and, what is even more strange...
I actually bought 2 Billy Joel songs NY State of Mind from Essential Billly Joel and Italian Restaurant from Greatist Hits vol 1.  Neither song would play.
I went back the Apple store and tried to re-download NYSOM.  It let me do it for free.  Before I checked I tried to re-dowload IR but inadvertantly selected same song but from The Stranger.  I had to pay for this one.  The re-downloaded NYSOM still didn't work but IR I bought from Stranger worked.  So, I bought NYSOM from Greatest Hits vol 1. Didn't work!!!  Tried again and bought from another album, Turnstiles, and that one worked.  So, I bought 5 songs, only 2 of which will work.
So, now I ask - is there any way to get my money back?

  • I tried to play a song. But it says I need to authorize my computer with a very old apple id I dont use anymore and I cant play the song. How do I fix this?

I am trying to play a song I bought and it is saying I need to authorize my computer to use it with a very old id that I no longer use for apple. How do I get all my music back?

You need to authorize the computer with that specific Apple ID. If that account's inaccessible, delete the song and then purchase it from your current Apple ID, or click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

There is a good Knowledge Base article that helps resolve authorization issues you might want to look over:
