Need to block Bookmark Sync on sold computer

I sold one of my old computers with all information deleted including the Firefox OS. When the new user reinstalled Firefox they got access to all my bookmark activity which has auto password. How do I block or free the sold XP computer from Bookmark Auto Sync and still allow the new owner to use Firefox?
Thank You!
Bob [email protected]

You can change the Sync password:
You should always do a full clear and wipe all data if you sell a computer.

Did you at least remove the Firefox profile folder?

Vista and later:
*C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
*C:\Users\<user>\AppData\LocalMozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
Windows XP
*C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
*C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

  • Need Detailed Instructions on Syncing Contacts to Computer

After thoroughly reviewing the online help information, and carefully reading the menu descriptions I do not "precisely" know how to:
    1) Copy my iphone contacts to my computer for backup storage.
    2) Maintain that backup storage by actively syncing to it when updates are made via my phone or computer.
    3) Correctly and easily restore my phone contacts from my computer to i) a new iphone and ii) to a phone other than an iPhone.
I would appreciate very clear and precise instructions on performing the above tasks.
    Thank you.

    Welcome to the discussions,
    1) The contacts and calendars are part of your iphone backup made by itunes each time you sync your phone in itunes. See this article about the content of the backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    2) Each time you sync, contacts and calendars are updated on the computer and the phone
Contacts, calendars, notes, and webpage bookmarks are synced with applications
on your computer, as described in the following section. Contacts and calendars are
synced both ways between your computer and iPhone. New entries or changes you
make on iPhone are synced to your computer, and vice versa.
    copied from http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf , page 12
    3) if you connect a new iphone, you will have the choise to use a backup to restore or set it up "as new iphone"
You'll have to use your computer to transfer contact info to another phone or mail them one by one from your iphone.
    "Backing up and restoring" http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Don't forget to backup the iphone backup folder as well from time to time, because each new backup replaces the old one. To locate the folder for windows, see "About backups"

  • Can I block or disable Bookmarks Sync on one computer later, after setting it up?

If I set up synchronisation for bookmarks etc for several computers with an account on the Firefox server, can I later block or disable sync for one of the computers without having to remove the program option altogether from my browser? I presume I can(?) uninstall it altogether if I don't want it later??
A related question -- can I set up to sync different things for different computers?

    1. Give her a separate user account on your computer. If you have a backup copy of the library, you can restore it.
    2. If you encounter a 90-day waiting period, click here and ask the iTunes Store staff if they'll remove it.

    Help please

To build on the second option provided by The Edmeister make sure that you have your Sync Key, if this is not the case Firefox Sync will not help you (data is encrypted with that Key).
Finally, if the last sync happened long time ago, it may be the case that your data is not on the servers anymore. Firefox Syn wasn't designed as a back up service.

  • How do I hide some synced bookmarks on one computer (e.g., home bookmarks on a work computer)?

Firefox Sync is a great feature. I only have one problem. Some bookmarks on my home computer are not suitable for my work computer. How do I exclude or hide a single folder of bookmarks without actually deleting them on all synced computers?

I've read that Xmarks has the option to assign bookmarks to "synchronization profiles". You could then have one profile for "work bookmarks" that is synchronized across many computers or even separate firefox profiles while a profile for "personal bookmarks" may be synchronized with other computers.
The closest thing Firefox synch could support is creating separate firefox surfing profiles and synch accounts for each set of bookmarks you want to synch. You could then select from your profiles using the profile manager (make a shortcut to firefox that launches firefox with the -p or -profilemanager option (both work) "C:\..... firefox.exe -p". It's less convenient, but could work.
Ultimately, I'd love it if firefox would just enable synching bookmarks with certain tags (tag a bookmark work, it gets replicated on all firefox synch accounts with the work tag). People think in folders, but tags would be even better imho.

  • My old computer crashed. I now need to sync my iphone to a new computer. How can I do this when the iphone is only made to sync to one computer? I tryed transfering a cd and it would not let me help

My computer crashed and i need to use a different computer. I downloaded itunes but i was not able to transfer a cd. how can i sync a new computer  to my phone????

Copy everything from your backup copy of your old comptuer to your new one.
    Sync your iphone.
It will delete the current content from your iphone and replace with content from the new computer.

  • I was syncing everything to itunes and I tried to do my contacts, not knowing quite how. I ended up erasing all of them from my phone without any of them syncing to my computer or itunes. Is there any way I can get them back? I really need them all.

There are lots of ideas floating on the web for this particular issue - all of which I tried. I had the same problem and it turned out to be my USB cable. I thought the cable was fine as it would charge my phone and play but the data transfer pin was bent. I replaced the cable and it fixed the problem. Worth a shot as it is an easy fix!

  • My daughter forgot her passcode, phone is disabled.  I attempted restore procedures by placing phone in restore mode and syncing to original computer, but it still says I need the passcode and does not offer option to restore as new.  Verizon can't help.

My daughter forgot her passcode.  Phone is now disabled.  I attempted restore procedures by placing phone in restore mode and connected it to the computer / itunes with which it was originally synced.  itunes recognized phone in restore mode and said I must restore.  I clicked restore, restore and update.  Update began, itunes recognized the device by name and gave error message that stated I must have the passcode to restore.  There was no option to restore as new.  I attempted to restore the iphone 4s on another computer by instaling itunes, but same error messages appeared.  I contacted Verizon and they said they could not help me.  The nearest apple retail store is over 40 miles away.  PLEASE HELP!

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

Sorry, without the Sync Key you can't use Sync to recover your personal data. If you have another device that was connected that Sync account, you can recover your Sync Key from that other device in the Password Manager on non-mobile devices. See - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-manage-my-firefox-sync-account?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=where-can-i-find-my-firefox-sync-key#w_where-can-i-find-my-recovery-key this].
''Firefox Sync wasn't intended to be a "backup" medium, it was made to keep certain data synchronized between multiple devices.'' That "key" is used to encrypt your data before being uploaded to the Sync server and decrypt the data as it is downloaded to one of your devices. Only you have access to that "key", to maintain security over your data no one else knows that "key".
If you still have that old PC or the hard drive from that old PC, you can connect it to the new PC via USB with a USB enclosure, and you should be able to recover that data if the hard drive didn't fail.<br />

If you haven't been using your phone as recommended, then you've lost all your contacts.  Contacts should be synched to your computer (Address Book, Outlook) or a cloud service (MobileMe, Google) for safekeeping.  The iPhone was never intended to be a storage device.
If you haven't been using your phone as recommended and synching your contacts as above, frankly, you've no one to blame for your loss of data but yourself.
On that topic, are you making regular backups of your computer's data as well?  Hard drives WILL fail.

  • Why do I need to set up sync when I only use 1 computer. A warning showed up that says: Sync encountered an error while connecting: Unknown error. Please try again.

When I started up my computer this morning, a warning popped up saying: ! Sync encountered an error while connecting: Unknown error. Please try again.
Why do I need to set up Sync on Firefox when I only use this one computer and do not even have a cell phone?

If you do not want to use Firefox Sync any more, you can deactivate it. See instructions here: [[How do I manage my Firefox Sync account?]]

  • Every once in a while my android phone (Galaxy S-4 completely rearranges the order of my Firefox bookmarks which are synced to my computer. Can I prevent this?

The phone and/or Firefox seem to be moving recently used bookmarks to the top of my bookmarks menu, which I don't want to happen. The bookmarks menu on my computer remains unchanged. I have been able to restore the original order on the phone by managing my Sync account, but this seems to take at least a day, sometimes longer, to take effect.

Thank you for your suggestion. I've been using Bookmarks Menu, and this is where the problem has occurred. This week it took nearly two full days for Sync to restore the original sort on my phone.

Is there anything I can do or can Apple do something if  I give them the  correct password?

As you had the iPhone opened by an unauthorised repairer ( Apple do not replace screens on iPhone 4)
Apple will not provide any service or support
Take it back to the "phoneShop" and tell them to fix it
