  • What app do I need to burn imovies to dvd

I have a new imac - no internal superdrive- I bought a stand alone. I need to burn imovies to dvd. Idvd no longer works with new imac, I purchased Toast - that does not work, I downloaded Free DVD creator - that does not work either. I have been following the procedures but the dvds can not be played on my tv dvd player.

Use Verbatim like babowa suggested and burn at the slowest speed available. That will give you the best qualtiy video DVD. If you find you want to create a video DVD with more style than what Toast provides consider using iDVD.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Burning movies to DVD

I have just edited an hour and a half program that needs to burned to a DVD and copied to a VHS tape. I used iMovie. When I go to iDVD, it says I need a double layered DVD. What is that? I am doing this for a cable TV program and don't know if that would work. Also, they want a VHS tape copy. Can I do that, and if so, how? Can I export it to a VHS player and record it? Help!!

    Go:
    Preferences
    General
    Encoder Settings
    Best Quality
    And:
No, you can't not have a theme. Just pick one like 'Transparent Black' from the 4.0 themes. It has no music or motion. You can just drop in a still of your own from your movie.

  • I can't burn movie to dvd on idvd

I have completed my movie and I am ready to burn but when I insert the blank disk it tells me that I need to enter a recordable dvd.  I have tried several new disks and it keeps telling me the same thing on all.

Where are you getting this mesage, in iDVD?  What happens if you insert the disk while in the Finder?  Do you get the same message? If so them it might be a problem with your optical drive.

  • No sound when burn movie to dvd (premiere elements 3, sony vaio, vista)

    Hi,
When I burn a movie to DVD using premiere elements I end up with no sound.
Analyzing the VOB with avicodec reports it has no audio track - and I get the same problem if burn to a folder or direct to a disc.
Exporting to mpeg or other formats works without problem.
Also - when I try the burn, I find a large .wav file in the temporary files folder, which seems to match the sound the DVD should have.
But for some reason PE isn't combining it into the VOB?
My current workaround is exporting as mpeg, and importing this to moviemaker and burning from there - but it's a pain to do this.
I saw some posts about this topic from last year - and mentioning VAIO as a common factor - but none of the sugggestions there have worked, and I can't find any solution/new info. Apologies if I've missed something in the forums.
Any info/suggestions would be much appreciated!
    cheers,
    Mark

Sadly, we see a number of problems that are unique to the VAIO.
Sony is notorious for rewriting the operating system to fit their needs. Still, you'd think, if Premiere Elements came bundled with it, it would at least work with the system.
I highly recommend manually updating the operating system and firmware (these things become outdated weekly, and outdated firmware can really wreak havoc on your machine), clearing off the junkware, optimizing Vista and making sure you have the latest version of Quicktime and, if you're using Premiere Elements 3, that you have installed the 3.02 patch. These links to the FAQ library at the top of this forum will show you how.

And, if all that fails, it might well be worth a call to Sony, since they supposedly built and tested their machine and software before they sold it.

  • Burning movie to DVD after it was already done

Created a movie in iMove HD6, burned it to DVD. All is great!
Days later, I need a few more copies, and iMovie wants to do the long rendering process again.
Since it was done once, is there a way to expedite the process?

No, you will need to do the long rendering process again, because you burned directly from iDVD. But, as long as you have to re-encode again, instead save your iDVD project as a Disk Image (an option on the File menu) and burn your DVD from the Disk Image using the Disk Utility application on your Mac. The rendering process will be done only once, when you create the Disk Image. After that, you can burn as many DVDs as you want, in as many different sessions as you want, from the Disk Image with Disk Utility without any more endoding. Takes about 1/10th of the time.

  • Burn movie to dvd

    Hey all,
New to the Mac world, picked up the new 26" Imac with leopard on Sat. night. In a rush to make H.S. graduation movie by Friday in three days. Imported all photos, video, music, itunes, and movie is made, edited and ready to burn on a dvd so I can share it with friends and family on tv. Do I need special dvd's, not sure how to get movie from imovie to a dvd to view on tv or share with ms users. HELP

After finishing movie, SHARE/to iTUNES or SHARE/to MEDIA BROWSER.
Open iDVD and create a new project.
Drag the movie into your project from the Media Browser at the bottom right if the iDVD window.

  • Burning movies onto DVD

I have some movies on my MBP and want to write them onto DVD so I can play them on my DVD player. They are played through quicktime on my MBP, if I burn them to DVD will they just automatically play through my DVD player or do I have to do something else?
Also, what kind of DVD format do I need?

RW discs is an option but not all DVD players can read them, usuallt the cheap ones (cheaper the better) can read them but the expensive ones can't.
You will have to try it and find out if your DVD player can read/play them without skipping parts or messing up the sound.
Toast will encode the avi or any other file to DVD format and uses the entire DVD space. Toast compresses the movie using all the space it has to keep the best quality, putting more than 1 movie on a single disc is possible if you drag multiple files into Toast's Video section and it will give you the option to make a DVD menu and everything but the quality will get poor.
Best is: 1 disc for 1 movie
Don't be sorry for asking questions that's what the forums are for !

  • Burning Movies to DVDs

I am not sure this is the best place to post this, but hopefully someone has some insight.
I have some movies on my computer and I want to burn them onto DVD's so I can play them on a conventional DVD player in my house. I already made one dvd DL a coaster by trying to use mac disc utility to make an image. I have used DVD Imager to make an image and now I have two files, one is the name of the movie.img and the other is just the name of the movie (the icon looks like an HD). Which file should I burn onto the DVD? If I go to disk utility to burn the movie onto a DVD, I think I can choose either the file ending in .img or its subfile (the one with the HD as the image). I would like to avoid making another dvd a coaster and I would love it if I can make DVD's that I can play on a household DVD player. Thanks for your help.
    Best,
    Aaron

You might have used the same media in the past with good luck.
I have read several users here on the fourmns that have had issue with the innconsistant poor quaity of some media used.
I personally have bought a 30 pack and got 5 or 6 from this 30 pack to burn correctly the rest were JUNK. Or as they like to use the term COASTERS.
If both burners you use are doing this I lean toward media, it could also be you need to check for firmware updates for your burners from either the manufactures site or do a google search of your burners.
    Cheers Don

  • Burning movies to DVD from iTunes

I have a few dozen movies in my iTunes library that I have acquired from various sources - ripping from disc or copying from an external hard drive. I wish to burn all these movies to DVD to free up space on my computer. I have tried burning the movies with iTunes but my DVD player will not read the disc. It gives me a message saying, "There is no video or audio data." What should I do?

    ErinGillaim wrote:
It may caused by the video codec which are not recognized by your DVD Player.
It's not. iTunes does not burn a regular, playable DVD.
In this case, you can use some third party DVD burning tool to rip iTunes movies to DVD.
Rip means to get eth info off a CD/DVD.
Burn means to create a CD/DVD (because the disc is burned with the laser).

  • I need to burn data on DVD and need to distribute to PC,

I need to burn data on to DVD and distribute to PC users. The default format is that of Apple. How can I work around this?

    Do the following:
Assemble the files you want to burn in folders on the  Desktop.
Insert a blank dick into the optical drive.
Option drag the folders onto the disk on the Desktop.
Drag the disk to the Trash bin in the Dock which will turn into a burn icon to burn the files to the disk.
The disk will be compatible with both Macs and PCs

  • What DVDs do I need to burn movies?

My computer has a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D Drive.
Does that mean that I need DVD-RWs to write to them, because it won't even recognize DVD-R's...
Is there such a thing as an external DVD-R burner that I could plug into my USB drive or something?
    Advice is appriciated. Thankyou.

Well I tried just putting a DVD-R into the drive, and it won't even register that there is one in it. Not sure if that is because of an incomaptible disc type or not. Haven't looked up the specs yet, at school now, so I can't get to the computer atm.

  • Good software to make and burn movies to dvd using 10.8.2

10.8.2 does not support I DVD I am looking for a good software to make my own movies yet be simple to use and burn to DVDs. I'm a beginner and need help thanks

You can use iDVD with 10.8.2 - I am; it still works (although it is no longer included as it used to be). So, if you have a retail iLife 09 or 11, install it. If you don't, it is absolutely worth going to Amazon or ebay or some other resellers and buying a copy of the retail iLife 11 disk.

  • Unable to burn movie to DVD without theme

I created a movie on iMovie and would like to create a DVD without any of the themes offered in iDVD. Don't know or unable to do so.
I finally settled on a theme with one drop zone. However, the trimmed clips I created in iMovie when dropped to the drop zone are untrimmed. I deleted the trimmed sections from the iMovie trash. Still it insists on transfering the whole silly clip. Don't have Quicktime Pro so can't do editing there. Any suggestions before I go crazy over this 4 minute movie!

If you have a copy of Toast 7 you can do it. Create your DVD in iDVD (or in Toast if you like) and save it as a disc image. Open the disc image then select the option in Toast to convert a DVD from a VIDEO_TS folder. You'll then find there's an option to burn the main feature only. Select that and burn a DVD. Worked fine the last time I tried it - when you put the DVD in your DVD player it'll automatically play the movie and stop when it gets to the end which, I think, is what you want to do. The only two downers are that (a) it's a two stage process and (b) you need to buy a copy of Toast. It's really silly that iDVD won't let you do this but then quite a lot about iDVD is silly anyway.

  • Need help burning project to DVD

Can anyone help me burn a PRE project to a DVD in .VOB (NTSC) format so it can be read by any DVD player connected to a TV, not a computer.  I know how it is supposed to be done in Premier Elements because I did it with small sample files, but whenever I try with a larger project, PRE always crashes during the encoding process..  First I will give the particulars of my system, then of my project, then of the trouble shooting I already tried, finally my experiences
    System:
Intel Pentium "E2200" dual core processor @ 2.2 GHZ speed
         3 GB RAM
Windows 32bit Vista Home Premium with SP2 installed
1/4 TB hard drive with 100MB free and 0% fragmented
          Intel G31/33 graphics processor
    Projects:
14 MB slide show consting of 5 MB JPEG files with audio or text captions and unedited  MPG4 files of 480x720 pixels imported from Samsung camcorder set at recording quality of 5 MB/sec.
10 MB movie created in instant DVD by dragging above JPEG and MPG4 files from album
Neither have additional narration or music tracks
Both the above about 25 minutes on the timeline
    Troubleshooting already tried:
Burning project to folder instead of to DVD
Exporting files to PC in MPG2 and AVI format
Rendering the file (not all at once, but in separate work areas at a time)
Burned to both -RW and -R DVD's
Deselecting the "Fit contents to available space" quality option in the burn menu and manually selecting a bitrate speed of 3 MB/sec
Repeating the above in selective start of windows with all start programs and non-Microsoft processes disabled
Repeating the above for both Slide show and movie projects
    Results:
The encoding process never completes, but it abends at different stages in different trials--never the same point.  Sometimes it crashes at less than 20% complete; sometimes it makes it to 96% complete, then stops responding.  Sometimes it generates a crash report, and sometimes it just stops responding, so I have  to open task manager to end the program.   Sometimes I get a message that PRE is dangerously low on system memory.  I just close the window and procede, because I am watching physical memory usage in Task Manager while PRE is encoding and it is consistantly about 60%.  CPU usage often peaks at 100%, but not for more than 60 secs at a time.  When the system crashed, it generated an error message in the administrative events log sometimes reading: "The entry <name of project file> in the hash map cannot be updated"; event ID 3013, which Microsoft found no help for.  When it simply stops responding, it leaves no error message in the system log until I close the program.
I don't think I have a system error, because my system sussessfully burned two minute test projects, and don't have a project error, because I could render the timeline.  What is going on here?
B.T.W, some people I talked to about this problem who make their living in photos and electronics suggest I buy a camcorder which records in MPEG2 format, then simply burn the MPEG2 files to DVD without re-encoding, insert the DVD into any player connected to a TV, and play.  I don't think this advice is correct.   Opinions?
