Need to create a DVD

What is the quickest why that I can creat a DVD in DVD Studio Pro? How do I connect everything together?

Hi:
I think this is the fastest authoring workflow in DVDSP:
Authoring a DVD that plays automatically without a menu
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93812
IMHO using an authoring software like DVDSP in the fastest way is not the smartest way to give value to your final product.
Hope that helps !

  • Need help creating widescreen dvd

Hello: I was wondering if someone could walk me through the settings I need to have to get from camera to dvd with a final product filling a widescreen tv and letterboxing on a 4:3 tv. My camera has a "cinema" setting, which creates a 16:9 look, but it appears to actually videotape in the black boxes, so it's really a 4:3 (640X480) image. I've been playing with anamorphic capture and settings, but my image keeps getting stretched, making my subjects appear fat. It occurred to me that I might just put every shot into motion and crop the black bars and fill the 16:9 screen with my video, but it seems that there's got to be a better, less cumbersome way to achieve my widescreen goal. Any comments would be appreciated!

    Hi
    And by the way
QT or .qt or .mov - are no video Codecs but containers that can hold Video Codecs iDVD can or can not use !
    Open Your movie in QuickTime-Player
    then open Inspector [cmd+I]
    then read
    • formatted as (Video Codec) :
    • frames per second :
    What does they say ?

  • How do I create a DVD from iMovie when iDVD is no longer included in iLife (Lion).

I've been doing video editing for many years on PC using the Pinacle software. I have for years wanted to switch to a Mac that is known to be far better for this purpose than PC. A few days ago I bought an IMAC 27 inch, 3.1 MHz and was impressed with the Imovie program until I was going to burn the project onto a DVD as I had read about and explained in all Apple stores I've visited.
I realize to my great surprise that in the Lion version is no longer possible to burn a DVD using IDVD as mentioned in the help menu and in the Appel documentation online. I have tried with various other applications as well with no success. It is completely incomprehensible that Appel actually has removed this option from Ilife (IDVD) and I feel cheated.
I have now spoken with three different people from the support and none of them can give me a good explanation of how to burn an Imovie project onto DVD with this new operating system (which actually is a basic need). All documentation I find on internet and in the help section refers to iDVD, which is not included in Lion, and it does not even appear that I can buy the program separately. The new operating system is marketed as an improvement and this I find misleading advertising when such a basic need as creating a DVD is no longer possible (or extremely complicated). I do not experience that I have received the product I have been informed about in several stores and on Apple's website and considering of course to raise the entire purchase.
Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD? I want to create both a DVD frontpage and chapters as I have been doing on my pc for years.

Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD?
You can't.  You MUST buy iDVD.
Tell Apple how you feel.  They do read these comments, and often react.  Be nice.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
(On the above link, you will notice under Mac apps they do indeed show, iDVD!)
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29. You WILL get iDVD.
or if you like downloads, go to the Apple Store via the Store button at the top, (not the App Store) and look for iLife 11 it will list iWeb and iDVD.  It IS available online.

  • How can I create a DVD image that PC users can retrieve and burn...

I need to create a DVD disc image that PC users can retrieve from a private network share and burn to a blank DVD. Once burned, it needs to auto-start at the Menu. The master works fine. Images burned using the Mac Disk Utility work fine. But I have little control over who will download the image or the method by which they will burn it, so I need to provide visitors with guidance. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

    Thank Jeff for this one.....
    http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/macsupport/mac_help/pages/0023-convert_dmg_imgiso.html
I've also heard that you can just copy an ".img" iDVD image to a pc, change the extension to .iso and then burn with Nero, etc. But I haven't tried it myself.....

  • Create a DVD playable on PAL & NTSC.

    Hi
I am using Encore CS3 and would like (NEED) to create a DVD that will play on both PAL and NTSC DVD players. I have read in forums the following theory...
Master my content at 23.976 and then import it into Encore. After output it will be interlaced by any DVD player to either 30 or 25 interlaced fps.
When I try and import into Encore I am only given the option of PAL (25fps)or NTSC (29.97), so which do I choose and how can I be sure that My final DVD is in fact 23.976 fps and will play on any format?
PS, This is all very new to me as I am a 2D illustrator by trade!
    Thanks in advance

I live in London, UK and work for a TV company that produces shows for PBS
in the US. I have never had any problems here playing NTSC discs.
They do look a little softer than PAL ones, since the picture is stretched a
little but not so the average user would notice. The only problem that might
crop up is if someone is using such an old TV or monitor, and we are talking
very old here, the picture could play in black and white.
The reverse isn't true - we have had lots of issues with PAL discs being
sent to US clients and being unplayable.
I am sure you know this but just in case not there is one caveat... do not
add any regional code! Almost every TV professional I've worked with still
confuses regional codes, region 1 for US and region 2 for Europe with video
formats NTSC and PAL. If you do add a region code then you will find discs
    will not play!
Make your discs in NTSC and region free and you should be fine 99% of the
    time!

  • Creating autostart DVD in kiosk mode?

I need to create a DVD or video file that will run in kiosk mode for an exhibit we have up. Since I've never done this before I have a few questions.
    1. The video has already been created by our local cable TV folks and they said they can save it in any format we need. My first question is: what formats will work best?
    2. It looks like just using the autostart feature in iDVD will allow me to create the DVD that will run automatically. Do I need to do anything to make it loop continuously?
    3. One last question that might be beyond this forum: Is there a way (script, etc.) that we can start up the computer daily and have it shut down automatically, and begin running the DVD automatically? We'll be disconnecting the keyboard and mouse so that folks can't mess with the computer.
Thanks in advance for your advice/ideas.
    Patrick

    Hi
    1. StreamingDV .DV or QuickTime full quality and as .mov
    2. Don't know if this can be done.
I would in iDVD import movie into Autostart box (in box view - upper left most box)
    then Select Looping.
I guess that a normal TV & DVD set-top player might autostart when mains returns.
But You have to try out first to be sure.

  • Create a DVD with footage that is shot in 16:9, 4:3 as well as 1920x1080 photos too?

I need to create a DVD with footage that is shot in 16:9, 4:3 as well as photographs too (and I'd like the photos to be at 1920x1080 as the DVD will be shown on a full HD tv)
Am I right in thinking I can setup a project in PE3 with widescreen settings, and then crop my images to 1920x1080 as well as using the video footage (which is 640x356 and 640x480)
I want the best quality images, hence I'd like the pics @ 1920x1080
    Any advice appreciated

You'll get the best quality if you reduce the size of those images, believe it or not. It has to do with the way to program must downsize all images to fit in a 720x480 non-square pixel space.
You should open a widescreen DV project and add to it photos that have been sized to 480 pixels tall (or 855 pixels wide if you want them to fill the screen but lose some of the tops and bottoms of the pictures) as well as your other standard DV. This will create a standard DV project -- which is what I assume you want, since you're creating a DVD.
If, on the other hand, you're creating a BluRay disc, those measurements would be different -- although if you're not using hi-def source video, you will get hi-def video regardless.

  • AVCHD file to create a DVD

    Hi,
I need to create a DVD with menus from several AVCHD files.
After a bit of fluffing around I ended up importing the files direct from my camcorder into iMovie.
I then did my editing (pretty much just trimming both ends of the various clips).  Have then gone to Share-MediaBrowser-Create 720p movie.  Am very happy with the way these clips look after this process and its my intention to transfer them into iDVD as individual chapters once they are all created HD clips.  I may need a couple of discs but that's no problem and plan to burn the discs at the professional setting.
Am I on the right track here or am I missing some vital step(s) ??
    Cheers.

    Hi
Feeding iDVD HD-material will not improve - but set off various problems.
DVD is as standard (what ever DVD Author Program used) - interlaced SD-Video in PAL or NTSC - nothing else.
    So to get maximum quality
    • use a video editing program that can deliver - iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - can not do that to 100% but discard every second line in the picture.
    • iMovie HD6 and FinalCut can deliver 100%
If iMovie'08 to 11 is a MUST then do
    • "Share to Media Browser" - AND AS LARGE - Not HD or other resolution as this too degrades the final quality
Then in iDVD - Import from Media button (down to the right) / Movies
on Quality I made these notes.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I concider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything bittons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

  • ** Need to create a continuous play DVD for show

I need to create a continuous play DVD to play at a convention.
I have created the iMovie project and believe there is a way to burn the disk in such a way that when the movie ends it will automatically begin from the beginning without intervening. How can I best do this?

when the movie ends it will automatically begin from the beginning without intervening. How can I best do this?
In iDVD, select the button associated with the movie (or in the Map view, select the box assocated with the movie), go to Advanced menu, choose Loop Movie. The movie will loop forever until the user hit a button on the remote control.

  • Do I really need to BUY Lion to create bootable DVD/USB?

    Hello, all.
I need to create a bootable Lion DVD or USB flash drive so that I can repair my internal drive. I just bought this new MacBook Pro (late 2011) and it - obviously - came with Lion installed. Do I really need, as the two articles I've found cite, to BUY Lion (again, sort of) to create bootable media?
Any help, suggestions, support, or answers (particularly) would be greatly appreciated.

This statement confuses me. You don't need anything to repair your internal drive. Just hold down cmd-r on restart and boot into the recovery HD.  Are you aware of the Recovery HD? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Now, if you want something to boot from if yiou ever need to swap drives, you can try any one of the noted options. Even then, your Mac should be able to boot into the Internet Recovery without a bootable drive at all. That does require good internet access, but is another option.
Asside from all that, a clone would be a good option (as already mentioned) to have if you don't want to be saddled with downloading Lion again to reinstall.

  • Need to create a slideshow that plays on DVD...

I need to create a slideshow with about 100 images with music background. I need this to be on a DVD that can be played in any dvd player. iDvd is crap because of the backgrounds and stuff. Not sure how or if iMovie will work for this. I know I can create one in iPhoto, but I dont know how to get it to play on a DVD.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

    Hi Pattimac,
I have purchased Titanium Toast 6, (with Jam, and have an external DVD burner. I was able to burn just the pictures but not the music. I would really like to know how--in easy to understand words--to make this work.
If you are referring to Toast 6 Titanium, you probably want to ask the question at Roxio user forum: http://boards.support.roxio.com/roxio/board?board.id=0000020 . If you want to know how to export iPhoto slideshow to iDVD, here is how: Exporting a slideshow to iDVD.

  • Need help creating dvd

    Hello Final Cut community!
I'm trying to create a DVD for a friend of mine. I'm editing it in Final Cut Pro and its about 30 minutes long. My question is: How do I create a 30 min video in Final Cut Pro 7 so that it will be able to fit on a standard 4.7 GB DVD that will be able to play on a DVD player. Do I use compressor, dvd studio? I have Final Cut studio so I have all of these programs, I've just never created a DVD so this is all new to me. Thanks you!

#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing.  Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps.  Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • Help needed to create Quik Time VR movies, step by step

    Hello,
    thank you for your attenction.
I need to create Quick time vr movies, and I need to know the exact sequance of steeps to do it, and if the starting point I use is correct.
    1) I shooted a sequence of photos with my digital camera (for example: www.stebianchi.com/quicktimevrhelp/still-photo.jpg).
    2) Then, with photoshop (CS4) I choose: Automate/photomerge and I select all them to joint them in a bigger 360° panoramic one (www.stebianchi.com/quicktimevrhelp/pan.jpg). If, untill here, all is correct, the first question: in photoshop Photomerge layout option, do I have to choose one voice "auto, perspective, cylindrical, spherical, etc..." rather than anoter one of these?
    3) from here, I really need your help.
First of all: the great doubt:
My photos can not cover a spherical panorama, they're only a "ring" around a center (and not a spherical texture). To cover all the surface (or almost all, ok...) of my ambient, do I have to use a wider lens on my camera or there is a different solution (for ex a vertical photomerge?).
    4) Done this, I think I shuold buy a software like Cubic converter, to set and export the QTVR movie. Right?
    Thanks a lot guys,
    all the best!
    Stefano

You can call your local apple store(find one on the home page of apple.com) and they will give you instructions how to convert DVD to iPod. That is what they told me, but from what I heard, you may need more than Quicktime Pro. Just call and ask them, because if you make a manual of how to do it, it could help me a lot.
(I'm looking for a good DVD converter, already know some, beside the internet download ones)

    Hi meatmailbox,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The best way to backup your iTunes library is to an external hard drive.  The article below will explain how to do this.   If you want the files on a CD or DVD, you would need to create playlists.  I'll include that information as well.

  • Can I Create a DVD in Captivate 5 to auto-run on Standalone DVD Player

I upgraded to Captivate 5 and created a 4-minute "infomercial" of our product. I was able to publish it as an exe so stores could play it on their Windows computer. I was also able to publish it as an Application so stores could play it on their Mac computers.
But how do I publish it for stores that just have a cheap stand-alone DVD player? Most DVDs the stores get from other vendors have a DVD with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS files on the DVD and this just starts playing when they insert the DVD. I want to do that as well.
Adobe tech support said to publish my Captivate 5 project as SWF and check the Auto-play box. This generated about 5-6 files but none start up right away (although the one with an htm extension does run on my Windows Computer if I first click on it.)
Past Forum postings from years ago seem to say to Publish using F4V, convert using Adobe Media Encoder and then use Encore to create the final DVD. I did publish using F4V and then downloaded Adobe Media Encoder from your web site and ran the F4V file through that. Now I am stuck. Do I need to buy a $1,600 product called Creative Suite 5 to get to the last step and create a DVD that plays automatically when inserted in a Stand-alone DVD player? There must be a simpler (cheaper) solution.  HELP!!!

    Hi there
I'm guessing you will need to consider publishing as Media (F4V with Fixed Frame Rate). Then take that and pop it into a converter such as the ones you may easily find using Google.
