Need to create a 'gradient mask' using a b&w photo image.
I have not created a document yet and would like some thought on how to do this: I want to use a continuous tone black and white image which is somewhat close to what would be a 'knockout' but with soft edges - so it gradates appropriately over the background image I want to use, making the black part of the image used as the mask become much of the effect of a gradient mask: the background image shows through whereever there is the 'black' and 'tone' of the image. I hope this makes sense.
my first thought is to create a layer mask and then paste the black and white image onto that, but I'm not sure if that will work to accept the 'soft tones' of the image and work appropriately.
Has anyone had experience with this type of thing that they can share what steps I should take to make this effect work?

The answer to your question is no, you do not need to create a DSN to connect to Oracle. The Oracle thin driver is all that is required. Your code looks OK to me, I'm assuming that you xxx'd out the IP, and that you are using a real IP in the actual code.
The message you got back is pretty generic, but can indicate that the Oracle database listener isn't available. Perhaps the database is on a different port, or perhaps the listerner isn't running. Perhaps you have the IP address wrong.
So, to be very basic:
1) Can you ping the server you are trying to connect to? This makes sure you are using a valid IP address.
2) Can you connect to the Oracle server from an Oracle client? This makes sure the listener is running properly, and that you know the correct port number and login information (The port number could be in a local or server based TNS file, or available through an Oracle names server. You might try using the program tnsping if it is available on the client for validation.
3) If you can do 1 and 2, then be sure you are using the same connection parameters (server, port userid and password) that worked with 2.
4) Verify that you are using (pointing to) the correct set of Oracle classes for the thin connection. This can be tricky if you have different versions of Oracle on the client then on the server, but is documented on the Oracle website.
5) If everything checks out, you might want to verify that you are using the most recent versions of the thin drivers, including the Oracle patches.

Like in a Circle I need to make the compound path the inner area or negative space of my objects. I have expanded letters and joined their paths so that there are negative space, I was wondering if it were possible to fill in the negative space with a clipping mask? (like one would with an object like a circle or rectangle) The letter that I am using is an A and I have connected two A's together like a diamond reflecting each other... As (Kurt and) I (mis)understand it, you may, presuming the As form one Compound Path:
1) Lock the underlying gradient rectangle;
2) Copy the path of the four As and hide the original;
3) With the copy selected Object>Compound Path>Release, then delete the outer path, then select all the inner paths and Object>Compound Path>Make;
4) Unlock the rectangle from 1) and select it with the compound path from 3) and Object>Clipping Path>Make;
5) Show the original compound path from 2).
You can do it without the hiding and locking, but that makes it easier to see and to avoid mistakes. -

Please have a look on following case
create MP and assign Inbfocube..whatever dimensions are there in cube will be assigned to MP and it will be using the same dmensions as cube while reading dat afor reporting;
Now if you add an ODS, ODS don't have dimensions so no extra dimension will be added to MP but if you feel that some ODS characteristic are there which u can place in existing dimension than you can create extra dimension and assign ODS characteristic in that...
Dimensioning always improves performence so use maximun dimensions...if characeristic are differenr from one another..

Need help creating full battery alert using visual basic script

I have been searching for resources, programs and code that will create an alert for me to unplug my charger when my laptop
battery is charged to full (or almost full).
The only problem with this code is that

I want to get either the current percentage of the battery or the total Fullchargedcapacity and the EstimatedRemainingCapacity to find the % of battery level.

Need to Create a Date for Use in Filter
I need to set a filter to the effect of Modified Date >= [CURRENT_YEAR] || '02-01' and can't seem to get the filter right to allow me to concat/insert the year to the '02-01' to just get MM/DD/YYYY = 02/01/[Current Year]. It keeps throwing SQL errors.
Here is the text I used to get the string but I can't seem to get this into an actual date format. I've tried doing CAST as DATE and doing a DATE 'YYYY-MM-DD' format as well.

So if current date is 06/08/2010 then I wanted all activities >= 05/01/2010. If the date were 01/12/2010 then I would want 12/01/2010 as my date to filter etc. It is the rollover that messes up most of the date logic when using date parts as filters.
Here is what I came up with and it works great. You basically subtract a month from today's date and then subtract the number of days (minus one) to get back the first of the prior month.

Need to create template to delete sections (in a batch of images, if possible)
I was given a batch of photos (all the same size) that need notches punched into each side. The result are notches with deleted space on both sides.
Since there is a stack of them to do--and the notches need to be precise--I was trying to figure out; 1) How should the template look? Specifically, should the area to be punched out be black or white? What color should the area to remain be, etc.? 2) Once the template is set up what is the process to punch out the area to be deleted? 3) Is there a way to automate the process with a batch command?
Would appreciate knowing the steps required or if you know of a tutorial (free) on the procedure.
[CS5 Photoshop]White is opaque and black is transparent. Once you made your selection you can save the selection to a new document. The new document will then contain the alpha mask and a layer that matches it. An action could then load the new document and load the selection then close the new doument.
Anyway I am sure you will find multiple ways to do this. -

PARISI too have an 8500 AIO (A909g), and in general I like it a lot. Have you tried using it to print directly on envelopes? I have not tried that personally, but it seems like the printer is capable of having multiple envelopes loaded at once for printing. Also, if you don't have it already, you can buy a 2nd tray for the 8500, so you can keep envelopes loaded in that tray, without needing to remove paper from Tray 1 all the time.
Another option might be to get transparent labels and print on those, instead of printing directly on envelopes. I do that, and the finished product looks pretty smart. -
