Need to deactivate iMessage on stolen phone

How can I deactivate iMessaging on stolen iPhone?

Th following quote is from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen and it recommends changing your Apple ID password to proven use of iMessage:
if Find My iPhone isn't enabled on your missing device
If you didn't turn on Find My iPhone before your device was lost or stolen, you can't use it to locate your device. However, you can use these steps to help protect your data:
Change your Apple ID password. By changing your Apple ID password you can prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your missing device.
Change the passwords for other internet accounts on your device. This could include email accounts, Facebook, or Twitter.
Report your lost or stolen device to local law enforcement. Law enforcement might request the serial number of your device. Find your serial number:
On the original box or receipt
On My Support Profile (supportprofile.apple.com) if you registered your device with your Apple ID
Report your lost or stolen device to your wireless carrier. Your carrier can disable the account, preventing phone calls, texts, and data use.
If you want to use another device and your messages are not being received because of iMessage, the following recommends contacting Apple Support: Can’t receive text messages on a non-Apple phone

  • Can't deactivate iMessage after switching phones?

I bought an Android phone tonight, replacing my iPhone.  I also ported my number to the new phone.  However, now, anytime someone with an iPhone tries to SMS me, their phone automatically sends it as an iMessage, which I can't receive, since I no longer use my iPhone.  How do I deactivate my phone number with iMessage so that I can start receiving text messages from my iOS-using friends again?

That is the answer, CNet's reporting on this is very confusing. Many servcies now attach the service to a hardware device or an app that runs on the device. (Twitter, Google Voice, iTunes, Google Dual Auth all be examples.
With certain services such as iMessage, Google's Voice, Google two phase authentication you link the device with the service. Even in Twitter you allow certain Applications which are device specific Access to your account. Users have to and are expected to based on when they sign up for these services to manage the access.
So now would be a good time for any users reading this to review all te authorized devices and applications for various services they use day to day. You may want to visit the vendors or providers site to find out how to do this.
    Itunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
This not being a Google or Andriod fourm you may want to search the Web for answer on how to manage many of the services on that platform, call Google Support, your provider support or there store.
iMessage service has to be managed and if you change devices you need to act accordingly and change device.
CNet reporting it as a bug is strange. You need to manage your accounts, the services and the hardware authorized to access and use services.

  • Deactivate imessage for stolen iphone

    Hi,
my son loosed my old iphone 4 with IOS 5 on a festival. Now he is using another cell phone with the same phone number. But everybody with an iphone still send messages as imessage, which he can't receive . I've deleted the registration of the phone yesterday - still no change in behaviour.
How can i tell apple to delete the number for the imessage service that he receives all mesages from IOS devices a SMS?
Thanks a lot for your help!
    Kind regards Chris

    Hi,
thanks a lot for your help. It would be important to know how the 45 days purging period time works. Is it 45 days after continous unavailability or 45 days of not using the imassage service on both sides with the phone number?
So the questition is, how can somebody report to apple that a phone number can't be reached by imessage any more without waiting 1 1/2 months. If this isn't possible, the global imessage database will show more and more dead entries. Other iphone users will send them imessages which will never reach their destination and there is no error report on the sending device. Even worse if imessage is still releated to the IMEI Number, sombody else receives the messages.
    Kind regards Chris

    Hi,
In theory an iPhone that appears to the Server as Off Line will be "de-registered" from the server.
Twice at various iOS Upgrades I have had the iPhone Number become greyed out leaving only the Apple ID is use (Despite the fact th item is greyed out and unchangeable by the user.
This should mean that the iPhone should present as not in service and the sender should "Switch" to sending SMS.
However as the Mac version may still have the iPhone number in it's Send and Receive lists then the iPhone may appear to be still logged in.
You can "disable" the iPhone number in the iMessages account (Messages > Preferences > Accounts).
Unticking the Receive At will also  remove it form the Start Conversation From drop down.
It can be removed by deleting the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist in Mavericks and above as this holds the current Apple ID and any "Aliases" in use.  You will need to re-enter your Apple ID in Messages on the Mac if you do this.
Ultimately contacting Apple Support is the simplest and best way although some of the above may be needed to "tidy up" afterwards.

I had an iphone 4s and it worked nice with facetime and imessage using my phone number but  it was stolen on December so I buy a new iphone 4s using the same cellphone number  but now imessage and facetime does not work with my number, it only works with my apple ID.   Please Help me I speak Spanish so  if my English is not ok  I´m sorry about it.
Do you think that apple has to   reset in their database of the old serial number attached with my phone number and that’s why I can´t activate imessage and facetime with my number in the new iphone 4s??

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more.  I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.
Your points are true; however it doesn't help me......

when i try to delete my messages it turns my imessage off so i have to restart my phone to get it to work again, by then all my messages have come back which i deleted... how can i delete old messages i dont need anymore withou imessage going off?

To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

After 2 weeks or so, the phone complete missing from find my iPhone. How the theft could deactivate the phone from my id/iCloud? So is the activation lock work as what apple claimed?

If you had Find My Phone turned on the only way a thief can deactivate or remove the phone from your account would be to know your Apple ID and password.

    Hi,
You need to contact Apple Support somewhere along the line.
In iTunes go to the Store and then to the bottom  of the page and click Support.
This will open a web page to start the process.
My UK version take me here http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/
At the bottom of this Menu is Contact Support.
Click this then in the new Page chose the iTunes option on the right hand pane.  (UK version http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/contact/)
You now get led through a set of support questions.
Keep to the ones about Managing your Account until you reach the end and are offered email contact.
Explain the problem to them giving as much detail as you can. Dates and things you do know.

To my knowledge, I've only seen this for imessage only and not SMS.
The other users would need to have send read receipts enabled on their phone.
