Need to delete my library

I'm new to iTunes, as i just recently purchased an itouch. My issue is, years of random DJ work has swamped my library with terrible music, and I want my I tunes library to just have the music I like to listen to. Iv taken the time to shift trough the HOURS and HOURS and HOURS of music and put all that i want on my iTouch. Now is there a way I can delete my library, and then when I sync it up, transfer my music from my itouch back to my computer. I understand this is a very "PC" way of thinking, and I don't to upset the apple gods.
Thanks for your help!

Im not automatically syncing, but basically what your saying is if i delete a song that i want (currently on my itouch) when I plug it back into the computer i cant take that song off my itouch and put it back into my library? Or another way to put it can syncing work both ways... delete my library and when i sync it takes the music from my touch to the computer.

  • Relocated iPhoto to external hard drive - now need to delete old library.

I have relocated my iPhoto library to my external hard drive. I did this due to space issues on my internal hard drive. Now I need to delete my iPhoto library on my internal hard drive to give me more memory. What is the best, easiest, and safest way to delete? Thank you so much!

    Before you delete anything:
1.) Make sure the drive you put your library on is Mac OS formatted. Click on the drive icon and go to File > Get Info and check the "Format". If it isn't Mac formatted, reformat the drive and re-copy the library over.
2.) Tell iPhoto to look at your library on the external drive to make sure it has all the pictures you want. Hold down option key and launch iPhoto and choose the library on the external drive to see within it.
3.) Do you have a backup? I have my library on an external drive like you do. I have another external drive that backs up my computer and the drive with the library on it. External drives are relatively inexpensive (You can also backup using DVDs although if you have a large library it might take quite a few disks.)
__You will see it said over and over here on the discussion boards. If you have information that is important to you, have a backup.

    To Delete your library:
In the Dock (long strip of icons at the bottom of the computer screen) click on the Finder icon.
Look in the sidebar on the left hand side of the resulting window. You will see the Home.
__Inside the Home go to the folder called "Pictures". Drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder to the trash and empty the trash.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to delete entire library

I know it sounds strange, but I need to delete entire library and start a fresh. I mucked around with my files and it has all got very messy, so I would like to delete the whole library and 'home share' my library from my other computor. Can I do this?
When I delete all the songs, they are replaced with name of song and icloud icon. I can download each individual song from icloud, but this is a lengthy process.
    Any ideas??

However as far as I know there is no way to do a secure delete from iPhoto - the delete process removes them from easy access but if your kids want and know how - or ask on this forum on how to recover deleted photos - they could find them
If you need to be sure they do not see the photos the only way would be to drag the iPhoto libary to the trash, pull their photos our of the originals folder back to the desktop, do a secure delete and create a new library

I just updated my iTunes, and I need to delete photos from my iPod 4, and there is a Photo Library that synced to my iPod when i plugged it into my computer, and now it doesnt have the option to delete them off my iPod. How do I get rid of these photos? I have read other questions that say to plug the iPod into the computer and like un-sync it, but I downloaded the new iTunes and it doesnt have a photos tab. Does anyone know how to solve my problem? Please and Thank You, Megan!

Just what did you do to the computer?
It sounds like the iPodf is seening the iTunes libary as a new libary.

  • Tried to use home sharing to transfer itunes library from old pc to new -- however it only brings over the music, did not bring audiobooks- My question is do I need to delete itunes from my new pc when I redo using external hard drive

Trying to transfer iTunes library from old windows 7 pc to new windows 8.1.  Used home sharing, but not what I wanted, I want everything on the new so I can discard the old pc -  so now all I have is my music library on new pc thru the cloud none of my Audible audiobooks came over - My question is do I need to delete iTunes off my new pc before I load it in from a external hard drive?

You might need to make sure neither is going to sleep (System Prefs > Energy Saver)
Also check your settings under System Prefs > Security. My sisters new laptop kept logging off due to some setting there.

iPhoto keeps crashing! - then needs to repair the library. This is happening each time I import photos or even try to go in to an even and delete photos etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please it is so frustrating - I used to love iPhoto - now I regret upgrading to Lion

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

You should get your keyboard checked as it's repeating  on a lot of keys and makes you look silly.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Need to delete pics/be sure the copies are ok.  what am i doing wrong pls..

    ok
my pc is filled with pics now.. i need to delete them off the computer..
i have transfered the whole Picture directory to Verbatim external hard drive..
i used an 8 megapixel camera.. most pics in the Verbatim are about 40kb
before deleting the pics off the main comp i wanted to be sure the quality is the same on the transferred files to the ones i have on the main comp.
I brought back one file from verbatim into iphoto.. and it was showing in there as a small photo... any zooming at all causing pixelation... ie nothing like the high quality original i already have on the iphoto..
can anyone tell me whats going on pls? i really must delete the photos but want to be sure i have made good copies first..
please feel free to expose how thick i am!
    thx
    mark

Why don't you just run iPhoto with the library on the external drive - quit iPhoto, drag the iPhoto library as a single entity to the external drive and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key - use the select library command to direct iPhoto to use the external drive
After you have done this and checked your library you can trash the one on yoru internal drive (I suggest testing iPhoto one more time before emptying the trash just to be sure)

  • Before I restore my iTunes backup do I need to delete the iTunes folder that is on my hard drive

I did a complete reinstall of Mountain Lion.  Before I did so I followed the instructions to backup my iTunes to an external harddrive.  I want to put my iTunes library back onto my MacBook Pro hard drive.  There is an iTunes folder on my hard drive after my fresh install.  Do I need to delete that prior to dragging the backed up version back onto my hard drive?  Thanks in advance.

    What instructions?
Just copy the entire /iTunes/ folder to /Music/ on your computer.

FYI: Do you know you can do a complete reinstall of Mountain Lion without deleting any user data?
Also, you should ahve done a full backup of your entire drive then use Migration Assistant to pull in the user accounts (or what you needed/wanted).

  • How do I download all my photos onto an external hard drive intact without loosing iPhoto's features, important info and details? I need to delete pictures and files to make room in My mac's memory which is currently full.

How do I download all my photos onto an external hard drive intact without loosing iPhoto's features, important info and details? I need to delete pictures and files to make room in My mac's memory which is currently full.

So you want to move the iPhoto Library?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

Try this (assuming you're using iPhoto 12): make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I need to delete all my pictures off of my iPhone because I have run out of storage.  I have downloaded all pics to my mac but is my entire camera roll backed up on iCloud as well? I just want to make sure before I delete them from the phone.

I need to delete all my photos off my iphone because I have run out of local storage.  I have synced with my Mac but also wanted online backup.  Are all my photos from the camera roll uploaded to iCloud?  I just want to make sure I can retrieve them after I erase from the phone and in case my Mac crashes.

Import photos through iPhoto. (You will prompt to delete from iPhone when import competes).
Backup your Mac. (At least the iPhoto Library)
    Backup to iTunes.
Backup to iCloud. (Check in Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Manage Storage>your device name>Camera Roll ON).

No you do not need to delete the current version and no you do not import anything
just backup your iPhoto library and upgrade  the iPhoto application will upgrade your existing library when you launch it - No importing involved (never iomport an iPhoto library into an iPhoto library)

  • How do I Delete Photo Library and Albums on iphone 5

Someone please help me!!! I've been all over trying to get help.  My photos are safely on my PC.  I was able to delete all the photos on the Camera Roll only.  I need to delete all albums including PHOTO LIBRARY which has over 3000 photos.  I don't want any photos on my phone.
Does Apple prevent this so you will have to buy more storage?  You should be able to delete an album.

Connect the phone to your computer, click on the iPhone name in iTunes, click on the Photos tab. Check Seleted folders. Uncheck the albums you don't want on the phone, then click Sync.

  • I deleted ~User/Library and now I can't get it back

For whatever reason, I have a program which is installing files that I need to access to ~User/Tom/Library (to clarify I don't mean ~Library). I deleted this library folder when I first got my mac because I found having two libraries confusing, and I didnt really see the need for one in my user folder.
Anyway, now if I go to my user folder and try to create a library folder inside it, it says to choose a different name as that one is already taken - and the folder is definitely not there! Is there any way to restore the folder?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are 3 Library folders in OS X:
One in /Users/Tom/Library (i.e. inside your home folder, assuming your user short name is "Tom").  This is commonly abbreviated as ~/Library and if you type 'cd ~/Library' in Terminal that's where you'll go.  This is for preferences and settings for applications and system settings unique to your user goes, typically.  There's a LOT of stuff in there.
One at /Library (at the root of the hard disk).  This is for settings for applications that may be used by the system or by multiple users on the system.
One at /System/Library (so off the System folder at the root of the hard disk).  This is for OS X specific stuff ONLY.  No 3rd party applications should EVER be modifying anything in this folder.
