Need to delete unsorted bookmarks folder

FF3 brought us the "unsorted bookmarks" and associated star in the bar fail. I got rid of the start using userchrome.css file. I need to DELETE the "unsorted bookmarks" folder permanently and forever. If this cannot be done it should be added to FF4 ASAP. When xmarks syncs with ie8 etc this stupid "unsorted bookmarks" folder keeps replicating and I NEVER use it!!!!!!!

I have the same problem.
I would like to completely eliminate the 'Unsorted Bookmarks' folder in all instances and cases.
I would also like for my "bookmarks menu" folder to be my default folder when I double-click the yellow star.
gareasy's solution removes the folder from the bookmarks menu only, and does not effect the default folder that bookmarks are saved into.
cor-el's solution had no effect at all.
I know there is some genius out there that has a solution.
Heeeeeeelp!
(I see many people have this same problem too.)
Thanks in advance.

How do I see, sort and delete unsorted bookmarks in Firefox 3.6.6? Using Mac OS X 10.5.8. All bookmarks not in folders already seem to be in a lump called unsorted bookmarks in the Library but I can't open this to see them. I have deleted some from the bookmarks menu via the blue star it does not work with sites without an icon. pls help

I have this same problem. I want the ability to remove links from the unsorted bookmarks or the entire category altogether.
If there is no resolution, I could delete all Firefox files after saving my important bookmarks to Safari then come back and reload Firefox.
Why Mozilla does not take this concern whole heartily I do not know.
I have seen complaint about this dating back over two years.

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

They don't go into the Trash. Unless you have a backup prior to the deletion time it's gone.

  • Why in the world is there an "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder appearing that I can't get rid of. I will pay money to get it gone... forever

    clear enough?

Do you have any Boot Camp or other secondary partitions set up on your system? If so then try running a disk verification routine (chkdsk, etc.) in Windows to repair the disk. While I've not heard of it happening recently, in the past errors in these partitions have resulted in stubborn ghost files appearing in OS X.

Try to drag an app into folder and then drag it out.
Or reset you iPhone. Hold down Power and Home buttons until Apple logo appears. Release and wait to reboot.

  • Why does sync introduce about 6000 entries into my Unsorted Bookmarks folder?

I have between 10,000 and 20,000 bookmarks divided into 7 top level folders and many subfolders on a 64-bit Win7 PC running 32-bit Firefox 17.0. All folders are cleanly arranged under the Bookmarks Toolbar and no entries appear in Unsorted Bookmarks. The bookmark system itself works fine. However, when I sync to a 32-bit Win8 PC running same version of FF, only about half of my top level folders are transferred, plus I end up with about 6000 bookmarks (including many duplicates and subfolders) in the previously empty Unsorted Bookmarks folder on the Win8 PC. My total storage on the FF sync server is only about 6.4MB, well below the limit. I tried resetting sync and starting over several times, but I always get similar results. Is there an upper limit on the number of bookmarks which sync can reliably handle, or some other issue here?

    Hello TEEH,
I agree it would be useful to directly view what is on the server, but someone from Mozilla must enable that. Probably won't happen. It is very frustrating that we also do not get any indicators as to what is going on in real time.
Today I used a *.json backup file from my Win7 source to put identical clean bookmark structures on my two PCs (about 11,500 bookmarks on each) and verified the bookmarks worked as expected on both machines. I then closed my FF sync server account, opened a new one, paired the Win8 target to the Win 7 source, and requested that the Win 7 PC copy its bookmarks to the Win8 PC using '''''Options>Sync>Manage Account>Reset Sync...>Replace all other devices with this computer's data'''''. The end result was that all desired folders on the target Win 8 PC were erased and about 5,500 bookmarks were scrambled in its Unsorted Bookmarks! Further attempts at syncing did not correct matters. The Win 7 source remained intact.
So my '''''guess''''' is that things are messed up on the sync server and garbage gets transferred to the target. Maybe they intentionally give low priority to new accounts with large numbers of bookmarks in order to keep the majority of other customers happy. Could also be a Win7/Win 8 thing, a Version 17.0 bug, or pilot error (unlikely).

  • Bookmarks are either duplicated ort moved to the unsorted bookmarks folder; some are deleted and older deleted ones return.

I posted before how many bookmarks are deleted, duplicated, etc. ut what I am seeing now is that many are moved to Unsorted Bookmarks, Some are still being deleted, duplicated and ones deleted months ago return (happening less now). How do I prevent Firefox from moving bookmarks to that folder without my "permission and how do I delete automated backups as of the bookmarks (which I believe may be part of the problem). Note this happens after every PC cold start, has also happened while I was looking at it and all of the usual suggestion DO NOT WORK: deleting the "places" file, running that add on that supposed to fix it, etc.: ou can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox
    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file
You can try to check and repair the places database with this extension:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
These did no work so please do not suggest them.

  • I need to delete a bookmark to a site that no longer exists. Since it won't load, I don't get the star. Since it's not in a folder, it won't show on the Show All Bookmarks page. grrrr.

When I pull up the Show All Bookmarks window, I only see bookmarks already placed in folders, not the uncategorized ones.
The star option only works when the bookmark can actually be loaded.
How do I delete a bookmark that is now a broken link but not placed into a folder?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

You should see the star even if the bookmark doesn't load. You can try offline mode (File > Work Offline).

  • How to delete mobile bookmarks folder?

I have tried sync, but don't want it. First I unchecked all the boxes so nothing syncs, then I deactivated my computer, and then I deleted my sync account. But there is STILL a mobile bookmarks folder in my Firefox which I can't delete. How to get rid of this?

    First, open the preferences panel:

Then press the "Clear private data" button.

  • Before I restore my iTunes backup do I need to delete the iTunes folder that is on my hard drive

I did a complete reinstall of Mountain Lion.  Before I did so I followed the instructions to backup my iTunes to an external harddrive.  I want to put my iTunes library back onto my MacBook Pro hard drive.  There is an iTunes folder on my hard drive after my fresh install.  Do I need to delete that prior to dragging the backed up version back onto my hard drive?  Thanks in advance.

    What instructions?
Just copy the entire /iTunes/ folder to /Music/ on your computer.

FYI: Do you know you can do a complete reinstall of Mountain Lion without deleting any user data?
Also, you should ahve done a full backup of your entire drive then use Migration Assistant to pull in the user accounts (or what you needed/wanted).

  • Need help deleting newly created folder...

So, I'm using an iCal alarm to download a folder of files (.jpgs) using fetch. I then have a folder action set up to move the newly downloaded images to another folder, then they are separated by a "move by EXIF data" action.
This all works well, but I need to delete the folder the images were originally downloaded in, so that when the Fetch/iCal action downloads the folder/images the next day, it doesn't create a new folder with a "-1" added to it.
I have tried all the combinations of "Get Specified Finder Items," "Get Folder Contents" and "Move Finder Items to Trash," but I can't get this one little empty folder to go away...
    Any suggestions?
    Yer Pal,
    Gel-Sol

    Nevermind. I figured it out!
I had an unecessary "Move Finder Items" action after a "New Folder" action. This somehow messed up the flow, cuz files are moved within the "New Folder" action.

  • Why do we still have an "unsorted bookmarks" folder?

I don't understand why Firefox still has bookmarks going into this unnecessary folder by default. Aren't there complaints about this all the time?

If "some" users are complaining about it why don't you just make it optional? From what I've read here there are many others who have been trying to get rid of it.
This has to be one of the the most unnecessary features you can add. I shudder to think one day firefox will introduce an "unsorted tabs" folder to make something simple more complicated.
