Need to Disable Saving of Passwords in Keychain

Hello all,
At our company, we need to disable the saving of passwords in the Keychain for accessing network shares. The Macs are not network managed, so we have to do this for each individual Mac. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

Not that I'm aware of, since the Mac OS X is inherently secure. All I can suggest is peruse Mac OS X 10.5 Security Guide, 2nd Ed

  • Saving WEP Password in Keychain?

I have a Airport Express wireless network which works great. It is protected by a WEP password.
henever I have to restart my iBook G4, it forces me to re-enter the WEP password before connecting to the network. The WEP password is not saved, even though I check the "Save In Keychain" option everytime.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Is there a way to to successfully save the WEB password so that I don't need to re-enter it every time I boot of the iBook?

Check the preferred networks list in
System Preferences > Network > Airport
Remove your network and try connecting again.
    Another thing to try:
    System Preferences > Network
Create a new location with only Airport and see if you can now connect.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • Keychain has stopped saving my passwords in my applications.

Recently my applications including browsers and coda have stopped saving my passwords.

No, iTunes has never saved videos or photos from the iPhone to the computer. You have always had to do it yourself (not using iTunes).

  • HT201263 So my ex put a password on my iPad and I am now on my second attempt to try and restore my device and last attempt at the end it said there was a message saying something about a passcode i needed to disable. I just want to wipe my whole IPad cle

So my ex decided to take it upon himself and set up my IPad and put passcodes all over the place as well as using his apple id to put things on my Ipad. Now that we are broke up I am trying to get into my Ipad and use it and can not. I have tried to restore it and wipe it clean to start ovwer but at the end of the process i get a msg stating that there is a passcode of somesort that i need to disable. What can I do to start over and clear everything?

Nope - you cannot restore a backup from a newer iOS version on to a device running an older iOS version.  The reverse works, but in your case to use your backup, you must update to iOS 7.0.3 - no other option if you want to use that backup.

  • Mail not saving my passwords

My mail program has stopped saving my passwords so I must reenter them everytime I check my mail. When I type the password in under my account preferences is disappears when I go out of that window. I have searched support and tried fixing with all their suggestions with no success. I assume I must either reinstall keychain or mail. If so, how do I do that? I don't want to reinstall system software if I don't need to. Help!
It is working fine on my G5.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain.
If that doesn’t work, try removing the password entries from the keychain and letting Mail create them again the next time it asks for them.
If the problem persists, try resetting the keychain:
    1. In Keychain Access > Preferences > General, click Reset My Keychain and proceed as requested. A new (empty) login keychain should be created and the old one renamed and removed from the keychain list, but not deleted.
    2. You can add the old (renamed) keychain (stored in ~/Library/Keychains/) back to the keychain list by clicking the [+] button in Edit > Keychain List.
    3. Depending on what the problem with the old keychain was, you may be able to move/copy password entries from the old keychain to the new one if you wish.

  • Asking for password for keychain access, but won't accept my password... What's up with this?

Restarted my MacBook just now and it's got a continuous stream of pop ups asking for password for keychain access, won't accept my password, won't go away (cancel), any suggestions.

    Hello Al323,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Keychain Access on your Mac.  I found a couple of articles I suggest for the issue you described.
Your keychain uses your the same password as your login password.  If it is not accepting that password, I recommend running the Keychain First Aid using the steps in this article:
Mac OS X 10.6: Solving problems with keychains
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296
If you are still repeatedly seeing a prompt to enter your Keychain Access password, you may need to reset your keychain.  This will create a new keychain so any saved passwords on the old keychain will not be available, and you will need to enter them when accessing sites for the first time again.  Follow the steps in the article below to create a new keychain:
OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password

  • Disabling S205 BIOS password

I'm returning an S205 for a repair and have been told to disable any system passwords first.
I had a boot password set, but went into the BIOS to disble it - in the Security section I entered my current password and for the new password just pressed Enter.  When I next booted I was again asked for the password.  Looking again at the BIOS settings the boot password was enabled again, and I've now gone through this process maybe a dozen times or more without success - I just keep getting asked for the password at bootup.
Any ideas anyone as to why the setting is not being saved?  Or am I doing it wrong?
    Thanks

PaulWhen you create the pool, don't give it any password at all, but when you add the
    driver properties, add
    password=mypassword
    as one of the properties.

  • I can't find a (AMTRAK) password in keychain

One of my passwords (AMTRAK) is obviously held by my Keychain because it is (correctly) pre-entered when I go to the AMTRAK website to log in. It has been a long time since I deliberately saved that password but now, memory failing, wish to know what it actually is.
Entering Keychain and displaying all passwords presents a list from which I am not able to identify which one refers to AMTRAK. Usually I have no problem with recovering other passwords because the listings clearly reveal the associated website.
Does anyone have experience with unravelling how the language of the Keychain listings refers to websites in non-obvious cases such as mine?

I'm going to add a reply to this because I came across a similar issue using Safari - which does actually use "keychain" (firefox keeps its own passwords).  There seems to be something technically wrong in the interaction with the amtrak.com site, and I have to think if firefox user have similar issue as safari, it's with the site and not the browsers.  When I find the the record based on inspecting the password it's filed under the username that is provided to login and the location "where" is just "http://" - this seems wrong to me.  So if you are looking for your amtrak.com password in your safari saved passwords / keychain look for the username and location http://.

  • TS2446 my apple id has been disabled i changed  password but it's not works

my apple id has been disabled i changed  password but it's not works

Try logging out of your account on the phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it
If that doesn't work then you might need to contact Apple : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
