Need to downgrade from 5.0.0.973 to ANYTHING!

Friday night I did a wireless update from one version of 5.0 (don't remember which) to 5.0.0.973 only to wake up that morning with my contacts locked and then ultimately missing. BBM won't work.  It kept saying I didn't have a wireless connection. On BBM  I got (and still get) an error message that says:  uncaught exception: java.lang.nullpointerexception"!  WTH?? I have Nice Office as a backup, tried to sync with phone, that didn't work (only about 60 of 240 contacts came back). Tried deleting Nice Offce and re-installing to get contacts back and nothing.  When I manually add the contacts, they show up over 20 times.  I'm stuck.
Everything I'm finding on this site about doing a downgrade involves a PC.  I only have a MAC.  So  here is my question, if I back up my phone on my Blackberry Desktop Manager I have on my MAC and then do a security wipe, what would happen? I know the phone will get clean, but what OS system would show up.
I am NOT a techie so PLEASE give it to me in plain language.  This is driving me crazy because I have no idea who is calling me anymore because I'm not recognizing the phone numbers.
Finally, in backing up the device, when I restore, will I get the same OS? Will all of my memos and 3rd party apps come back? I have no idea about any of this so any info will help!!  I just want to be able to use my phone decently again.
Solved!

Yea from my experience OTA updates rarely go over well, now here's the deal if you backup your device using the blackberry desktop manager for MAC im pretty sure that it will backup everything except for 3rd party applications.
A security wipe will wipe out any data on the blackberry but it will not touch the operating system, and when it comes to backing up and restoring you are working with device databases and not the operating system on the device so no doing a restore will not restore the operating system.
downgrading especially with the new software can be a bit difficult....what I would maybe suggest doing first would be to try resetting your blackberry to factory defaults, you can do this by following this article...just make sure to do a full backup of the device on the desktop manager for mac.
KB18998 ( use the bottom section as specified for mac users.)
This will not replace the OS but it will hopefully get rid of any corruption that you have.

  • Need to downgrade from OS 10.5 to OS 10.2 on Old 17" Powerbook

I need to downgrade my original 17" Powerbook from OS 10.5 so that I can operate OS 9. I have the original 2 install disks, which are 10.2, but I can't start up from the disk. My CD/DVD drive is bashed in so I have to use an external CD/DVD drive, but I successfully upgraded using this system. Every time I try to start up using an install disk below 10.5 using the "c" key method (I have tried the Powerbook 10.2 install CD, a 10.4 install CD from a Mac mini, and the 10.4 install CD from my current Macbook Pro), I get a grey screen with the apple, a blue screen, and then it boots up like normal to show my 10.5 desktop. I need suggestions on how to downgrade this computer because I really need to run several OS 9 programs for my research. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

You cannot simply install a lower version over an newer version. To install an older version you need to first erase the hard drive. See the following:
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit Disk Utility and return to the installer. Proceed with the OS X installation.

  • Need to Downgrade from Tiger to Panther

I'm selling my iMac and need to downgrade it from Tiger to Panther, which originally came with the system. How do I go about doing this? In the process I also need to erase everything on my hard drive. Can I perform the downgrading from the original Panther installation cds, or erase the hard drive using those cds and reinstalling Panther from there?

    Hello Kelly.
You need to backup all data first and use the Panther install package that shipped with this Mac and reformat the hard drive zeroing all data. Be sure to select HFS+ (or extended) with Journaling enabled when reformatting the hard drive. Instructions for zeroing all data included with this link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107437
After doing so, re-install Panther and all software included with the Panther install package that shipped with this Mac when new. When completed, do not proceed with the computer setup assistant and shut down the computer.
When the buyer starts up the computer for the first time, he/she will be greeted with the computer setup assistant and you should include the Panther install package that shipped with this Mac as part of the sale.

  • Need to downgrade from FF5. Where is the version 4 installer?

Due to the incompatibility with necessary add-ons, I need to downgrade FF5 to 4 immediately. Only the link for the previous installer is for 3.6.18 here:

Where can I get the version 4 installer?

Hi Mate, I've had the same problem with my Alpine stereo I think.
I've found a few posts about trying an old .iswp file I think it is.
I use it in my car alot so I don't think I'll be upgrading it again.
    Good luck,

  • I need to downgrade from the version 1.1 to 1.0

Just bought my new ipod nano 6th generation and everything worked great. a few days later it prompted me to upgrade to the 1.1 version. after the nearly half my library wont play on my ipod. ive tried a number of things to fix it with no luck so now im just looking to downgrade back to the 1.0 version. for some reason the files are no longer on my computer so does anyone know where i can download the file along with the signature file or maybe anyone who has to 1.0 version can email it to me? this issue has been such a pain and definitely has made me lose faith in buying from apple again

You need to get a copy of the older 1.1 firmware. I found it at http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/   Next connect your iPod to your computer and then hold down 'option' when clicking the 'restore' button in the iPod overview screen of iTunes. You will then be asked to select the iPod firmware you wish to use. Select iPod_1.1_36B00109.ipsw (which should be the name of the file you downloaded) and your unit will be reverted back to the older firmware.

  • I urgently need to downgrade from Acrobat Pro DC to XI. Help?

I teach the creation of accessible PDF documents and have a new computer. I installed various applications onto it including some Adobe products.
The course currently teaches how to use Acrobat Pro XI. This will change with the release of DC but not immediately. I have a class tomorrow and need to have Acrobat XI installed. How can I downgrade ASAP?
    Gerry

    Hi Phil,
The licence of Acrobat DC will not work with Acrobat XI, even its not possible to downdrade the licence from Adobe Acrobat DC Pro to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro if its not a volume licence.
Option to downgrade the licence is only available for Enterprise customers i.e with volume licences, and for that you need to contact our tech support, go to Contact Customer Care page and then click the "Still need help? Contact us" button to initiate a call or chat.

  • Needed to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion to address slowness on older Macbook, now I can't open documents or use my iWorks.

    Hello everyone,
Recently went in to the Genius bar to pay to fix some aesthetic physical damage on my 2010 Macbook (Applecare expired) and while I was there I asked about some slowness I'd been experiencing but couldn't explain. My helper recommended that I switch from Mavericks back to Mountain Lion due to the amount of memory required by Mavericks. I did that, and it did fix the slowness issue, but now I'm not able to open my saved documents or use Pages. May be affecting other applications too those just happen to be what I use most frequently.
When I try to open a document it says I need "a newer version of Pages" but I apparently cannot run the newer version of Pages because it says it requires 10.9 or later.
Help, please? I really need access to my documents.

Try one of these programs. Then save in another format and attempt to open in Pages.

  • Help! Dead laptop and need to downgrade from 10.5, in particular, Mail

My G4 1.67, barely coping with 10.5 has died. I am now existing on my 11 yr old 400Mhz sawtooth until I have the funds to buy a new machine.
The HDD was rescued and is now hooked up to my Sawtooth (praise be to OSX flexibility in this regard)
However, the machine is on impulse power, 1/4 that of my 6 year old laptop.
As it has only 768MB RAM, even Tiger is a bit of a push, but livable. Leopard is not.
I do have my old 10.4.5 image and want to bring it up to date.
    1. I have an iPhone, so could I use that to bring my Safari bookmarks up to date?
    2. Mail - how could I bring back to my Tiger world the current state of my Mail on Leopard?
    3. Is there anything else I would need to pull back (keychain?) or is it best to somehow pull the entire user account back in?
    Thanks in advance

Unfortunately your 10.5 system will not run on your 400 Mhz G4.
You can upgrade to 10.4.11 on it using the update here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
    following these directions*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
iTunes 9.2.1 for 10.4.11 may work better:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1056
If not, buying a used or refurbished 867 Mhz or faster PowerPC Mac will allow you to use the Migration Assistatant to bring in data off your old 10.5 hard drive.
Here's my FAQ on buying used or refurbished Macs*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
Some tips from this user tip may help you move data back in, but only if you can bring it down a version:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=10
Lookup emlx converter to bring your Leopard e-mail down to Tiger, that may work. I haven't tried it.

  • Desperately need to downgrade from iOS7 to iOS6. How?

I've been using my iPad for aviation wth iOS6. Before "upgrading" my iPad to iOS7, I made a backup with the iOS6 and all apps.
iOS7 has been horrible. My aviation app crashes, there are GPS problems, and the absolute WORST is the battery life has been drastically reduced. These are just a few problems with iOS7.
    I WANT IOS6 BACK!!!
I tried to restore my iPad to the state it was in before upgrading to iOS7 and it didn't work. It downgraded all my apps, but NOT iOS7.
    iOS7 is still there.
Why is it still there? Why didn't iOS6 get restored back onto my iPad? Please help!

Then how do I restore my ipad as if I just took it from the box and upgrade to ios 6 that way?
I've used the advice from about 10 blogs to troubleshoot my issues. If I was sharing my ipad with family or others and letting them have free-run of it, then I could understand having problems.
I am the ONLY user of this ipad (literally, I let nobody touch this thing) and I use it ONLY for aviation and the occassional gmail and website via Safari. I don't use it for games or movies or music or pictures or skype, etc. Just Air Navigation Pro and Safari.
I'm just so frustrated with the performance of iOS 7 and even more frustrated that I read several blogs on how to save a backup of an iPad's backup (because itunes only keeps the most recent backup) as a safety restore so that I could revert the iPad to an old instance of the iPad. I studied all this stuff before "upgrading" to ios 7 and now it looks like it was all just a wasted effort.

  • Need to downgrade from Mavericks

I am trying to downgrade my OS to whatever came with it.  Mavericks has just caused me too many problems.  I was told doing an internet recovery would install the os that came with it, however when I did that the only option was to reinstall Mavericks.  Also this is a Macbook Pro mid 2009 and my serial is
    73******7XJ if that helps.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You can then purchase and download any further upgrade by purchasing it from the Online Apple Store:
Upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can purchase Lion/Mountain Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • I need to downgrade from version 3.6.10 to 3.6.9 in order to use .jpg in my blog. How can I downgrade? I can't find the older version on the site.

When I attempt to insert an image (.jpg) in my blog, the title (if used) appears, but the image doesn't. Images that worked before I upgraded to version 3.6.10 will not load now either, but the images that were inserted before the upgrade are fine. Blog-city tech support says this is a known issue with 3.6.10 and that the only fix is to downgrade to 3.6.9.

    I did that :
    Open Terminal
    1 - wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/remi-release-8.rpm
    2 - sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-8.rpm
    3 - sudo mousepad /etc/yum.repos.d/remi.repo
Make sur that in remi section enabled value = 1 and in test section enabled value= 0
    4 - sudo rpm -e --nodeps firefox
5 - sudo yum install firefox
It was successful for me after many hours to look for the right answer

  • Need to downgrade from ios6!

I just upgraded my iphone 4 to ios6 and can't believe how slow everything is. Why is everything freezing? When I open up safari it takes forever to load a webpage. Is there any way to down grade to the previous software? I am extremely unhappy with this. Even when typing it is much slower. I also did not realize I can't get Siri on the iphone 4. Very upset!

Be warned that if you attempt to downgrade iOS, you stand a good chance of bricking your iPhone.

  • Password issue when re-instaling Leopard (downgrade from Lion)

    Hi there!
    I'm havig a problem:
I need to downgrade from Lion to Leopard, because some of the programs i use, dont work on Lion!
But im havig a problem, after Leopard instalation (and after i erased Lion)... the instalation of Leopard runs with success, but when i have to put user name and password to LOG IN... my password doesnt work! And im sure i only have this password! HELP! Any ideas on how i could reset it some how?
Without this correct password, i need to restore (from my MAC OX 10.7 backup) my MAC to Lion again, because i just cant LOG IN!!
I've made the whole process 3 times already!!
    Hope i've explained myself ok.
Thanks for your help in advance... and sorry about my english!
    Benny

Well, you cannot do a clean install of Snow Leopard without going through the Setup Assistant. There is an automatic suggestion for the username - typically your first name - and a blank password field you must fill in then confirm by entering a second time. If you did not do that then you have no password. Although this will not impede the ability to log in you cannot change a blank password and you cannot install software with a blank password.
So you will need to try this:
How to change your username and/or password from the Terminal
    1. Boot into single-user or verbose mode
    2. At the prompt enter the following commands.  Press RETURN after each:
    fsck -fy
    mount -uw /
    launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
    dscl . -passwd /Users/username password
Replace username with the targeted user and password with the desired password.
    reboot
This allows you to reset the password in single user mode without booting from the install media.  The above tip is attributed to Satcomer.

  • How can you downgrade from ios 7.1.2 to 6.1.3

hello everyone can you please help me i need to downgrade from ios 7.1.2 to ios6.1.3 because my ipad dosent work realy well with it can you plese help me

Downgrading isn't possible. iTunes won't install iOS versions older than the latest compatible release, and if one's somehow installed anyway, Apple's servers won't activate the device afterwards.
