Need to downgrade from Mavericks

I am trying to downgrade my OS to whatever came with it. Mavericks has just caused me too many problems. I was told doing an internet recovery would install the os that came with it, however when I did that the only option was to reinstall Mavericks. Also this is a Macbook Pro mid 2009 and my serial is
73******7XJ if that helps.

Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
         username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
         Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
         install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
         Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You can then purchase and download any further upgrade by purchasing it from the Online Apple Store:

You can purchase Lion/Mountain Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

Recently went in to the Genius bar to pay to fix some aesthetic physical damage on my 2010 Macbook (Applecare expired) and while I was there I asked about some slowness I'd been experiencing but couldn't explain. My helper recommended that I switch from Mavericks back to Mountain Lion due to the amount of memory required by Mavericks. I did that, and it did fix the slowness issue, but now I'm not able to open my saved documents or use Pages. May be affecting other applications too those just happen to be what I use most frequently.
When I try to open a document it says I need "a newer version of Pages" but I apparently cannot run the newer version of Pages because it says it requires 10.9 or later.
Help, please? I really need access to my documents.

Try one of these programs. Then save in another format and attempt to open in Pages.

Downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion

I am considering to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion, and understand I would loose the maps app and some features... but is it worth it it so I dont have to continuously reboot my mac, so I can use a program every time ?
The problems I am having with mavericks, even when I have done a few tweaks , is that after running a few programs such as mail, safari, garageband first and then loading photobooth... photobooth or any video app tends to lag , and the video is recorded lagging. A reboot fixes this if i start the program after reboot and not run any programs before.
Another issue is when I am doing my artwork, drawing in photoshop or manga studio... the pen tablet begins to lag as well, so I would have to save my work, reboot and then continue working until Mavericks starts misbehaving again.
This mac had its drive wipped clean before It became my personal mac, and I requested Mountain Lion, since I prefered it, but Mavericks was installed.
I dont mind Mavericks... its just this rebooting to fix or refresh system... is getting annoying when I need to get some artwork done.

I'm sorry to hear that you have had issues trying to work with your Officejet 8600 since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.9.

Downgrading from Mavericks to Mountain Lion

So currently I'm not satisfied with having Mavericks OS X on my macbook, particularly because of the gradually decreasing disk space that happens each time I turn on my macbook. I've attempted to clear caches like the IconServices in order to make space, but more space is gradually depleted, especially when I use third-party software like VueScan, which I find essential to my lifestyle. I wish to downgrade from Mavericks back to the Mountain Lion OS I initially had when I received macbook. Before I do, I need to ask the following:
1) Will I need to buy a new set of the OS software, or will I be able to perform a downgrade through the restart-and-recovery process I've seen posted?
2) Should I backup my drive? If so, what would you recommend I use? (PS. I did not perform a backup before upgrading to Mavericks)

If you use Internet Recovery (Command + Option + R during restart; hold until you see a spinning globe and progress bar) - it'll take a while to connect to Apple's servers - up to 15 minutes. In any case, once you're there, you'll see a Utilities window. Choose Disk Utility and choose to erase your drive (or course, back up your stuff first!). When that is done, back to the Utilities window and choose to install Mac OS X. If yours came with mountain lion, that is what you should be getting as internet recovery/erasing the drive will result in reinstalling the original OS version. Has anybody downgraded from Mavericks?

I bought a 2.4 Ghz mac mini to use exclusively for my home theater setup. It has been performaing flawlessly with 10.6.8. This weekend I upgraded to Mavericks. Boy am I sorry. Mavericks F-ed up a good thing. The feature I use most in iTunes is gone. There is no HDMI audio (I've done all the tricks). Scroll is backwards (Yeah I can change that, buy WHY?). I am not impressed.
Where will I need to look for Mavericks files to completely remove them?

Nope, the restore function is part of 10.7 or later.
As for the HDMI audio, edit Audio Midi Setup utility.
You can always install 10.6 server on your Mac, or an external hard drive with 10.6.
If you are missing the original installer CD for 10.6 that came with your computer, call AppleCare. They'll be able to send that to you.
If your machine pre-dates August 28, 2009, you can buy 10.6 retail still from the Apple store.
You can't install 10.6 client directly on top of 10.9 without erasing 10.9 first. There are too many changes that applications won't know how to lauch.
This is why a clone backup is ideal before installing anything.

Need to downgrade from OS 10.5 to OS 10.2 on Old 17" Powerbook

I need to downgrade my original 17" Powerbook from OS 10.5 so that I can operate OS 9. I have the original 2 install disks, which are 10.2, but I can't start up from the disk. My CD/DVD drive is bashed in so I have to use an external CD/DVD drive, but I successfully upgraded using this system. Every time I try to start up using an install disk below 10.5 using the "c" key method (I have tried the Powerbook 10.2 install CD, a 10.4 install CD from a Mac mini, and the 10.4 install CD from my current Macbook Pro), I get a grey screen with the apple, a blue screen, and then it boots up like normal to show my 10.5 desktop. I need suggestions on how to downgrade this computer because I really need to run several OS 9 programs for my research. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You cannot simply install a lower version over an newer version. To install an older version you need to first erase the hard drive. See the following:
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit Disk Utility and return to the installer. Proceed with the OS X installation.

Does anyone know how to get final cut pro 10.0.8 (downgraded from Mavericks)

I have down graded from Mavericks as I don't have the 2k needed to upgrade all my other apps I need a copy of final cut pro 10.0.8, any ideas?

Never heard of the expression about 2k and still don't understand what it means. Is that 2k of English pounds or maybe 2k pounds of flesh?
For what it's worth, in 1968 I was doing Fortran programming on an IBM computer that had 2K of memory. The computer room was the size of a large living room and we had two card key punch machines, a 120 "line printer" (printed a whole paper-width line at one time), a CalCom half-step plotter (wrote graphics programs for that), and a computer console, probably around 4 to 5 feet wide with rows of red lights. One had to read what was happening in hexadecimal code.
The programs I wrote were in Fortran and were for transportation planning and the Transportation Engineers. The graphics programs were for Travel Time and Delay Studies and the output was on about 30 or 36-inch wide paper and included things like Average Speed, Running Speed, Stop Delay Time, Percentage of time Stopped, Coefficient of Variation, Standard Deviation, etc. Rand these for AM Peak, PM Peak, Off Peak, and for each direction.
Back then an Engineer typically used a slide rule and if they were lucky they had a simple desktop Calculator that did add, subtract, multiply, divide, and had glowing wire numbers about 3/4" high would cost somewhere around $500. I don't think gas cost even 30 cents a gallon at the time. The venerable HP 35 calculator didn't come out until later. I wanted one but then they came out with the 45 and finally the Commodore 64 came out. Got one of those and wrote a lot of Basic programs for business.
As for the 10.0.8, I do have a backup of that although I'll probably delete it now.

Need to Downgrade from Tiger to Panther

I'm selling my iMac and need to downgrade it from Tiger to Panther, which originally came with the system. How do I go about doing this? In the process I also need to erase everything on my hard drive. Can I perform the downgrading from the original Panther installation cds, or erase the hard drive using those cds and reinstalling Panther from there?

You need to backup all data first and use the Panther install package that shipped with this Mac and reformat the hard drive zeroing all data. Be sure to select HFS+ (or extended) with Journaling enabled when reformatting the hard drive. Instructions for zeroing all data included with this link.

After doing so, re-install Panther and all software included with the Panther install package that shipped with this Mac when new. When completed, do not proceed with the computer setup assistant and shut down the computer.
When the buyer starts up the computer for the first time, he/she will be greeted with the computer setup assistant and you should include the Panther install package that shipped with this Mac as part of the sale.

i want to roll back from mavericks to lion i have no back up and i have wiped my drive back to how it was when i first brought it

Not if you download OS X installer and save it to a flash drive.
You may have to go with 10.9 and then look in your purchases and redownload Lion or Mountain Lion.
And yes you can have both 10.7/.8 - don't have any idea or experience with 10.9 though.

I upgraded to Maverick and started to regret that decision since it felt like the laptop got slower. So I used my installation disk to downgrade again to Snow Leopard. I performed many software updates after installing Snow Leopard.
The OS X (I'm trying to use the correct terminology here) feels unstable and is acting slow and unreliable. Examples:
When I open Appstore the images won't load. This does not only occur with Appstore, but also with websites and documents.
Apps are crashing more often now. It just says that it crashed and asks if I would like to send an error report. This did not happen before I went from Snow Leopard --> Maverick --> Snow Leopard. Can it have something to do with my upgrade of RAM?
I can't install purchased apps from appstore. I get various error messages, here is the latest error message:
I have used the Disk Utility to repair disk permissions and with the 8Gb RAM one would think that this MacBook would be lightning fast.
Please give any hints, tips and tricks. I just want to have a normal, stable system that can do anything and not be slow and sometimes crashing and not loading stuff. Tell me if you need more info about my MacBook.

Should I downgrade from Maverick to Mountain Lion 10.8?

Your comments are welcome regarding my concern about Maverick downgrading to Mounain Lion. here's my case.
I just upgraded to Maverick and now I notice that as per my temperature monitor app it shows a high readings ranging from 70-85 C above.
(MPlayer, MSWord, MSExe, Safari are all open) Im doing this always and not having this reading not until I upgrade my OSX to Maverick.
I am not comfortable on high temp in my unit because as per my understanding that will speed up the wear and tear of the machine.
I'm also having a suspicion if my Temperature Monitor might not showing the right reading because maybe its not compatible to the new OSX.
But I feel that Maverick has lot's of hidden issues for old MBP's like me (btw I'm using 2011 15 inch) so I am now thinking to downgrade to 10.8 Mt. Lion
My follow-up question is how to do that? Please share some links to guide me.
But if this issue can be fix I will stay using Mavericks.

Before giving up on Mav's "which is actually pretty great for laptops", do a little housekeeping.
1) look at activity monitor and see if something is using a bunch of CPU, things like mdworker and the like are reindexing your drive which can take hours. If it is something else, seek help for that.
2) repair permissions after upgrading so make sure system file access is not impaired
3) boot in safe mode at least once to flush dynamic linker cache (hold shift key at startup chime, when you get to the login prompt, just reboot again but in a normal fashion).
4) reset PRAM (hold command-R-Opt-P at startup chime)
5) let your TM backup have the time it needs to finish, the first time after an upgrade can be long, just give it time
If after a day or two you still dislike Mav's, then you can reformat your SDD and reinstall ML. If TM has been updated by Mav's then use a ML clone to bring over settings, data, & apps. I have tried this and it works. I have not tried to migrate from a Mav's updated TM from a ML install. That seems a bit problematic to me but apple may have made provisions for this to work...I don't know.
