I used Pacifist to install AU 5.6 on Mountain Lion. I think it works for Lion also.

You should find it or 5.6.1 at support.apple.com/downloads.
Note that Apple no longer supports its use nor permits us to discuss it here. Your best bet is to search Google.

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.  If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

Use AirPort Utility 5.6 which contains the features you need. It is compatible with Lion as well as Mountain Lion, however, the installer app will refuse to install it on Mountain Lion.
This dilemma is easily solved though. You simply need to extract the app from the installer package using a package extractor like Pacifist.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Mountain Lion will not allow you to delete its existing version of AirPort Utility. Just ignore it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist.
Note: For those with Leopard or Snow Leopard systems you need AirPort Utility 5.6.1 (this is confusing - a later AirPort Utility version for an earlier OS X version - but it is correct).
Download AirPort Utility 5.6.1 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1536

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your iMac comes with AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). You can open it from the Launchpad by going to the "Utilities" or "Other" folder

  • Printing PDF report directly to printer, not using orarrp utility

The orarrp utility works only with Windows machines and it
requires installation on both the client machines and servers to
support. We need a more general solution.
Adobe has a java application/applet/javabean (and support
classes) to view PDF, and it is easy to write a java driver
which can be used in place of the orarrp utility. However,
Adobe's Java Viewer is extremely slow, does not produce quality
output, and is explicitly not supported by Adobe.
My question then relates to Reports. When the Report server
returns a PDF in the Previewer, I'm expecting the JINITIATOR,
used by Forms, is also used to support the Report frame and
functionality, including eventual printing. If this is the case,
is there not a set of classes, downloaded with Jinitiator, which
support the fonts, and printing of PDF to locally attached
    printers?
And if so, shouldn't we, in Java, be able to make use of these
classes and their APIs to print PDF files directly to locally
attached printers without the need for Previewing first?

    within a forms trigger:
    1. generate the report
    2. copy from iAS to local
    like: webutil_file_transfer.url_to_client()
    3. print.exe /d:printer filename (for windows OS)

Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update.  You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time.  And of course make a backup of your whole library first.  It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates.  Better safe...

  • I have a .mov file that won't play in Quicktime - do I need to download a decoder?

Found out via Movie Inspector that these .mov files have DVC Pro HD Codec - which I believe has to do with Avid Editing software? Anyhow, I need to find out what I need to download in able to see these video files?  Do I have to purchase a decoder of some kind?  Hopefully not?  Is there any other way to view these files on my imac?  I am running OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5 and have both Quicktime 10 and 7 installed.  Thanks for any help/advice!

Would you suggest I put them through something like Toast and try to convert it to an .mp4 or .mov file again?
Right idea—wrong application. You still need to be able to acces the a "pro" set of codec components. Basically you can purchase and install FCP X ($299.99), Motion 5 ($49.99), or Compressor 4 ($49.99) to gain access to the ProApps QT Codecs package. Once you install any of these apps, you can run the Software Update utility to download and install the "Pro" codecs package as described in SUPPORT ARTICLE HT4714. Once the codecs are installed as part of your system's QT codec component configuration, they will be available to all media apps that can access your system's codec configuration—e.g., QT 7, QT 7 Pro, QT X, iMovie, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, etc. Since you mentioned clients, I assume you are providing a profesional service and might find $50 a fair investment for access to the entire ProApps QT codecs package which also includes other professional editing codec families. In any case, this workflow does provide a low-cost, easy way to leagally install the "pro" codecs on your system(s).
    P.S.
You can read DOWNLOAD ARTICLE DL1396 to see which "pro" codec families are included in the ProApps QT codecs package. This may help you better evaluate whether or not you wish to go this route.

Trying to update airport express by downloading Airport Utility 5.6 (which it says I need).  When installing I get an error message, "...version of Mac OSX on this volume is not supported."  What does it mean/what do I do?

For OS X Lion, you need to download this version directly from Apple Support Downloads.

i have a problem, i bought lion but when i want to install he said me i need to "download osx lion server" i'm running with the last lion beta. how to update please?
ps: sorry for my english :S

You apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Need help - downloading photos to portable hard drive

I've imported about 2000 photos from my iPhone to my Macbook Air.  I want to export them now to a portable hard drive but it's saying I don't have enough memory.  I was planning on deleting the photos on the MacAir afterwards anyway.
    Two questions:
1.) How do I move these photos to my portable hard drive, so I can then delete them on the hard drive?
2.) How do I bypass downloading to the MacAir next time, and move photos right from iPhone to portable hard drive?
I'm tech savvy on all things Windows, and have had Macs in the past, so I'm ready to pull my hair out over these novice questions.
    Help!

Have your recipients given you any more info than you've given us? The simplest thing for you to do is to capture your footage, get it in a timeline, then export as a QuickTime movie, which should be around 9 or 10 GB in size. Your PC friend would need to download QuickTime in order to view it.
There are tools available to convert to Windows Media or other formats. One of the best is MPEG Streamclip, which you can download here:
    http://www.squared5.com/
You'll need to be certain to format the hard drives properly (do this in Disk Utility): Mac OS Extended for your Mac friend, MS-DOS for your PC friend. There are issues with some PC drives and files over 2GB, so you may need to break your QuickTime movie into 9-minute segments.
