Need to expand the fix in KB406119 to new users

We were having the problem where PDFs would not open within Adobe Reader 9.
Making the changes from this article http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406119.html fixed the problem for the current user, but any new users have to be fixed as they are created. Since this is on a standard image, we would like a more permanent fix.
We have been looking through the default user profile, and have deleted any reference to earlier versions of Reader to no avail, so there must be a registry key somewhere.

Thanks for your reply.
Somehow this got messed up on a standard image that is put on new computers. Any new profile that is created when a user logs in for the first time needs the fix. I would like to fix the standard image so we don't have to make the change for the user.
I tried putting the key in HKLM, but it does not work.

You contact itunes support, just as it told you to do

new software that could be released through the iTunes online store for late December or early January, which was the iOS 6.0.2, wasn´t it?
No. The iOS 6.0.2 update was only to address issues with the WiFi chipset in the iPhone 5 and iPad mini. Whether a future software update will add LTE support to existing iPhone 5 units, none of us here can say.

  • I need to expand the bootcamp partition, any EASY method?

I searched a few methods for expanding the bootcamp partition, but a lot of people screwed it up. Does anyone know any easy method that wont screw up my bootcamp partition?

You can do it via Gparted c booted from a PartedMagic cd.
There is a GUI, but you really know what your doing and make sure your GUID table is updated.
I would try this experimentally on a external drive several times before risking your main drive, then have bootable clone backups and/or TimeMachine drives standing by to get your machine back in order if something messes up.
Been meaning to give this a shot myself, setting up my quad boot system with Lion right now.

  • TS2570 Boot or Restore, can't see my Mac partition but can see my Windows7 partition. From Windows I can access my Mac files which I've backed up on a NTFS drive. I most probably will need to erase the Mac partition & make a new one, what happens to Boot

    Hi,
When I boot my 2010 MacBook Pro I get a gray screen, when I try to do a Restore, the Mac partition is nowhere in sight, it sees my Windows Partition.
When I in Windows I can see all the files in the Mac Partition and I've backed up my Mac files on a NTFS external drive. My Windows partition has been working fine, I've installed it 2 years ago and have been receiving regular updates. Only problem is my display driver crashes occasionally.
I most probably will have to recreate the Mac partition and re-install Mountain Lion from the Mac servers. BUT, what happens to Boot Camp and my Windows 7 partition?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no way to expand the partition upwards. As you noted, you would need to either start afresh, or simply find a good use for the first partition.

  • Creation of folders within the home folder on a new user

I sold my Dual 2.0 G5 to a friend. Instead of doing a clean install of Tiger, I made a new user in his name and deleted my old user. In his home folder there was just 'desktop' and 'library' folders. Once we opened up iPhoto, a 'pictures' folder was created automatically. And once we opened iTunes a 'music' folder was created. I'm wondering how to have the OS automatically create the other folders:
    documents
    movies
    public
    sites
I guess I assumed it would automatically create these with the creation of a new user file. I know I can just create these manually, but the fact that they normally have the little icon on each folder, I'm wondering if there is a way to have the OS create these. Or if that even matters.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Keith

I'm wondering if there is a way to have the OS create these. Or if that even matters.
I wouldn't worry, as you've seen already, they get created as needed.
probably iMovie or such will make a Movies folder, and so on, but you could simply use the Finder to SHIFTCMDN, (Finder>File>New Folder), to make them if you're worried.

  • Moving All The Important Stuff to a New User Account. What to take?

It's been quite an eventful week and, because I can't turn %%$$! FileVault off on my original user account, I've just decided to move over to my back up account. "Brian" now has Admin abilities but I was wondering about the process of getting Brian to look/feel just like my original, now f'ed up account. Is it just about putting the Preferences file folder onto an ext. HD and putting it into the new account's Library? (I've managed to screw things up REAL BAD messing about with my Preferences Folder. I really don't want to go through that again!)
Anyway, anything else beside the above folder? I've got all my music and photos/movies already on the Ext. HD. I'm so mad at the Brianhardy account, I really look forward to deleting it. (No, that doesn't make any sense...)
Finally, how do I pick a better picture for brian for the users window? Nothing against dogs but.......
    Thanks.
    Brian

    Hi Brian
I went through what you are currently describing for the same reason as yours: disabling FileVault. Let me give you a few suggestions.
First of all, what I did is I actually went through all the files in the Preferences folder, to choose the ones I really wanted to move to the new account. There were so many obsolete preference files in there remaining from uninstalled apps that it was worth seriously cleaning up this folder.
Second, the Preferences folder is probably not the only folder in your Library you want to migrate. I'll give you a list of the stuff I migrated, but some of if might not apply to you.
My address book. It was corrupted, so I ended up exporting all the contacts, group by group, and importing them into the fresh, new address book on the new account. But you might not have to go through this trouble.
My calendars. I am a .Mac subscriber, so I synced over .Mac between the two accounts. (Be careful, it is a bit more tricky than it sounds). Same for all the stuff that can be synced (see the .Mac preference pane): Safari bookmarks, email accounts and rules, keychain... For some reason the keychain sync did not work, so I had to do the same export-import procedure as for my address book, except I had to give my password for every item in the keychain... :S I can type my password pretty fast, now :P
/Library/Application Support/iWeb if you use iWeb to create websites, which I don't recommend, after fighting with it for quite a while (but I haven't tried iLife'08 yet). More generally, you should have a look into this Application Support folder to see if anything in there is worth migrating.
    /Library/Mail
/Library/Sounds because I had put lots of custom sounds in there that I can use for iCal alarms
    /Library/Widgets
By the way, after migrating to this new user, I decided NOT to make it an admin, and to create a second new user with admin rights. I read this makes your mac more secure. Whenever you do something that requires admin rights, you enter the username and password of this admin user.
I also kept the old user for a while, just in case I realize later that there is something I forgot to migrate (which happened a couple of times). I just deleted it a few days ago.
Changing a user's picture can be done in the Accounts preference pane in the System preferences.
    Good luck

  • Locked out with file vault. Did fix by setting up new user account but cannot access old account with files                           but I can't get back into my old account with all my doc's and pics

I was locked out by File Vault. I set up a new account by fooling the notebook it was a new start up. Now I cannot access my old account with all of my files. I can see it in Accounts but it will not let me access. Help

I managed to get a few Time Machine Back Ups  before I passed away
I'm not sure whether a ghost can do this, but if you were still alive, you could do as follows.
First make sure you have read & write access to the folder you're trying to restore to. You should be able to see its contents in the Finder, and to move files in and out of it.
This is an exception to the rule that you should never make any changes to backup data. I've tested this procedure in OS X 10.8 only. It should work with later versions, but I don't know whether it works in earlier versions. Use it only for files that were backed up from your home folder, or a folder on another volume created by you, and would normally be writable by you. Do not touch backups of system or application files.
In the Finder (not in the time-travel view), navigate to the backup volume, then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb", and then to the snapshot you want to restore from. The snapshots are folders labeled with the date when they were created. Inside each of those folders is a file hierarchy like the one on the volume that was backed up. Descend through the hierarchy until you come to a folder named "Users," and inside that, a folder with your user name. The procedure will be different if you're trying to restore files on another volume.
Select the folder and open the Info dialog (command-I). Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and authenticate. In the Sharing & Permissions section, give your account Read & Write access. You may have to close the dialog and repeat this step in order for the change to show up. Then click the gear icon and select
              Apply to Enclosed Items
    from the popup menu.
Try the restore operation again, in the time-travel interface.

  • Need to expand the range of my wireless network

I live in a fairly long pre war NYC apt with thick walls. I have an old SMC barricade that works well with my Ibooks, macbook and imac (not so well with my pc laptop that I use for work). I just bought a PS3 for my son, on the other side of the apartment. it doesnt pick up the signal.
I picked up a Netgear WNR854T and a Belkin N1 to test. I know it wont improve the performance of any of my computers, but it's strictly range that's important to me. $130 for an N router is still cheaper than buying 2 airport extremes .
    Am I missing something?

I have found a setup which works great for me. Its a little more expensive (not too much), but its very flexible. The best purchases I've ever made. Really.
I use 2 Airport Express (much cheaper than the Airport Extreme) set up to extend each other using WDS (one as 'main base station' the other as a 'remote base station'). This essentially extends the range of the network to cover two apartments on our floor very nicely. It also allows you to plug-in an ethernet cable from the remote base station to the playstation or other non-wireless computer (my girlfriend has a PC with no wireless card), essentially creating a wireless bridge-which is a nice undocumented feature. I use this setup just to avoid having a cable strung across the living room. Plus the obvious benefit of being able to play music wirelessly to your stereo and/or connect and share a printer.
I've tried setting this up with 3rd party wireless routers (I think it was a Netgear-not sure which model) and an airport express working together, but there was no way to create a WDS network using the the non-apple wireless router. Apple aiports (express or extreme) seem to just play well together, especially with more complicated configurations, and are a snap to set up.
If I go on a trip I can also just grab one of the Airport Expresses, plug it into the hotel or room and have instant wireless wherever I go. Depending on how your home network is set up you may need change the settings on the express. This can be done easily by saving and loading different configuration profiles into the Express.
You can also still use your other equipment to act simply as a router (either wireless or wired) you just probably won't be able to 'extend' those networks. That way the 'main base station' Express will be set up to get its IP through DHCP, which is much simpler, especially if you are moving things around a lot.
To find out where to place the second Express, you can walk your laptop down the apartment until you start loosing the first signal. That's where you want the second Express. I use a little widget called "AirTrafficControl" to see a more finite view of the connection strength.
To find out about setting up a WDS with 2 or more base-stations see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107454
Not that other systems won't work just fine, but in the end I just love the convienience (size!), simplicity, and flexibility of the Express. With everything else I've tried I always run into some incompatibility somewhere down the line.
Hope this helps. Good luck with whatever system you choose.

  • HT1349 I need to register the serial number of a new iphone to my itunes library so that I can sync it....how do I that?

My friend just upgraded her iPhone and gave me her old one.  It is the same as my iPhone but mine has quite a few features that no longer work so she is letting me use hers until it is time for an upgrade.  I tried to sync my itunes and apps to it but it is not allowing me.  How do I edit my iPhone information so that I can change the serial number to the new phone's?
    Thanks

You can't change the seral number of the phone.  But if you backed up your old phone by syncing with iTunes you can set up her phone as a new iPhone and restore it from the backup of your old phone.   If you haven't backed up your old phone you need to do so by connecting it to iTunes and syncing it.  Then on her phone go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Contents and Settings.  Finally, follow this guide starting at step 3 to set it up and restore if from the backup of your old phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109.

If you are currently using two computers with Photoshop activated on them. You need to Deactivate one of the installed Photoshop so you have and available Photoshop available for used.  Open Photoshop use help menu iyen Deactivate or sign out the deactivate that computer.
When you have and available Activation you just need to install Photoshop on your new machine and activate it during the install process.
I beleive Photoshop Elements would have an licence like Photoshop. You may want to check with users in the Photoshop Elements forum for PSE12

  • Need help with the color options on my new mac monitor!

Ok, so I just bought a new Apple 23" monitor. I had originally bought a Samsung 21" and tried desperately to get the picture quality on the samsung to look like the quality of my macbook. I messed with calibration settings to no luck.
After a few months I gave in and bought a Mac cinema. Problem is it looks like its still using my old settings because the quality ***. Looks nothing like it did at the store or my macbook. It looks just like my old monitor.
How can I reset the settings on my new monitor so i get that apply quality. I am not gaming, I am talking about my general desktop display and photoshop files.
    Thanks for your help!
I have the Leopard operating system by the way. My macbook is about six months old, if that.
