Need to export Iphoto library from iPhone4, synced Macbook hard drive failure. Now only medium is windows based. Please help!!!

Hello all,
I had my iPhone 4 synced to a Macbook and was using iTunes and iPhoto for my media. Well the hard drive in my Macbook crashed and now all of my Photos and Music are only on my iPhone. How can i extract the iPhoto library/albums from the phone. My secondary concern is retrieving the Music. the music was imported to my original iTunes via CD's and USB drives but apperantly i can only transfer music that was purchased via iTunes store? I really dont want to roll the dice my buying a new Macbook just to hope that this will be the answer.
Thanks.

One of the reasons why maintaining a backup of the important data on your computer is important.
There are some 3rd party utilities that provide for transferring such data in the opposite direction - music that was not purchased from the iTunes store and for photos that were transferred from your computer.
Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on the iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process - the original resolution of these photos is reduced. When transferring these photos in the opposite direction, the original resolution of these photos will be lost.

I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • How can I migrate iPhoto library from an old MacBook Pro to a new one?

When the hard drive on my MacBook Pro 13 needed to be wiped clean, I restored all my files from Time Machine except for my iPhoto files. Not sure why my iPhoto library wasn't restored, but it wasn't, and I can't find it on my Time Capsule. I want to move my partial iPhoto library from my old MacBook Pro to my new one. I understand this is possible by linking them in some way. What is that way?

There are three ways; using File Sharing over a network, transferring them via an external drive, or using FireWire Target Disk mode. If you use file sharing, use the AFP protocol. If you use an external drive, it or a partition or disk image on it needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iphoto '11, version 9.4.2

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229?viewlocale=en_US - I doubt that it will solve your problem, though. You may want to post on the iPhoto forum - that's where all of the iPhoto experts hang out.

  • Need to transfer home movies from iPhone to external hard drive.

Need to transfer home movies from iPhone to external hard drive.  The movies were created with Flip Video, not iPhone.  I can see and watch them via iTunes but have not figured out how to move them from iPhone to hard drive. iPhone is broken (screen) and locked, but is still connecting to iTunes.  I have backed up all photos/videos created with the iPhone, just need to figure out how to get these last videos off the phone.  They are very important.  I am working off a Windows XP machine.  No, the camera wizard will not work for this as these videos are not stored in that area of the phone.
    Thanks,
    E

This is what I have done so far and stuck again.
I opened Image capture plugged in IPhone.  Device brought up camera roll pics only.
I was able to send them to the external hard drive.  Now they have green checks marks.  I cannot seem to remove them. Don't want to delete them yet to put into folder for having prints made..
Devices showed IPhone but would only show  camera roll I have two other folders and cannot seem to go to them to show up on the device  one is Photo library has 300+ pics and
last import folder.   I would like to take the 300 also from the Photo library and also copy them or move them to the external hard drive.
What step am i missing , please help.
    thank you

  • Backed up my songs from itunes onto a hard drive and now my playlists in itunes are gone! How do I retrieve them back to the way it was before?

Help! My husband backed up my songs from itunes onto a hard drive and now my playlists in itunes are gone from my library! How do I retrieve them back to the way it was before?

    Hello Nataroo007,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
There is a file in the iTunes library folder that contains your playlist information is the iTunes Library.xml file.
Try and find the file, usually located in one of these locations depending on your OS:
    Operating System
    Default location of iTunes Folder
    Mac OS X
    /Users/[your username]/Music
    Microsoft Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
    Microsoft Windows Vista
    \Users\[your username]\Music\
    Microsoft Windows 7
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\
Then you can import this file to your iTunes Library like this:
    1. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
    2. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file
    3. Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.
Note: information in this post comes from article:

  • How do I restore my iPhoto library from my old macbook (stored in time machine) to my new iMac?

I have my old macbook backed up on my time machine.  The problem is, when i enter time machine on my new iMac, I can only restore files from the current iMac's backups.  I can go to finder, and find my files under the "shared>airport time capsule" menu, but I don't know how to safely and accurately restore the iPhoto library to the current iMac's iPhoto.
Most of the searches I did on this topic kept advising to enter time machine, find your file and hit restore, but I can not select files from my macbook's backup in time machine on the current iMac.

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user Library folder, first select a snapshot, then press shift-command-G. A Go to Folder dialog will open. In it, you'll enter the path to the folder. The dialog will help you by automatically completing the parts of the path when you start to type them.
The path begins with slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts will be separated by slashes.
The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a "2", and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right-arrow key to jump to the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next part.
Next is the name of the volume (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it a different name.) Start to type that, then jump to the end and enter a slash.
The next part is "Users", followed by a slash.
Next is your (short) user name, which is also the name of your home folder.
Finally, enter "Library", then press return. You should now be in the Library folder. From there you can get around as in the Finder.
This seemed to do the trick.  I found the iPhoto library file and chose restore.  The question now is where to put the iPhoto library file.

  • Transferring my iTunes library from a pc compatible hard drive...?

I want to run my itunes library from my external hard drive because I don't want all my media and itunes stuff taking space in my SSD drive for my retina MBP...
However, the problem is that since this is my first mac, and I had been using itunes from my pc all this time, the drives are in different formats...
So how do i transfer my itunes libary from my pc's external hard drive...to a hard drive that I will use for my mac? I don't want the library taking up any space on my internal SSD ...
Problem is I can't seem to just drag and drop my library from my pc's external drive to my mac drive because they are a different format and thus incompatible :/
So what should I do? What is the easiest way to transfer my libraries and media to my mac's external hard drive between mac and pc?
If there is a way to store my media and itunes library on an cloud storage system like Copy or Google Drive so that I dont have to keep plugging in my external drive that would be ideal also..

First there's the drive problem.  It shouldn't be much of a problem.  PCs typically use drives formatted to NTFS.  Macs can read but not write to NTFS, but all you want to do is read anyway, to copy the files to your Mac formatted drive.  Plug both drives into your Mac and copy from the NTFS to the Mac formattted drive.  If that isn't working there's a different issue.  Check your Mac drive is formatted to Mac because new drives are often formatted for PC use.
Another thing to consider is FAT32 format is a PC format but Macs can read and write to it too.  It has certain disadvantages for use with Macs but the main advantage that you could use one drive with both your PC and your Mac.  The main disadvantage some find is if they store huge files (video editing files) since FAT 42 has a 4GB limit for any one file.
After this will come the question of what to copy and to where.  Do you keep only media on the external drive, or do you keep the whole library there?
As for Cloud storage, I can't really help you.  I get the impression it isn't the same as having a local drive since what you would want is streaming, not file transfer.
There are are a host of other issues.  I see this 'have a Mac and PC and want to use the same library with both' question here once a week.  You either end up with having two independent libraries that you try to keep synchronized with teach other, or you have one library that you have to carry back and forth, or at best on a networked drive but you can only have open by one computer at a time.

  • How can i transfer my itunes library from a PC external hard drive to iMac?

I have recently bought a new iMac but my iTunes library is on an external hard drive that is formatted for PC use, this is then linked to my old PC laptop, how can i get the library onto my new iMac?

Drag the entire library to the Mac's internal drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, and point it to that library. If the library only contains the music and not the iTunes database files, drag it into the open iTunes application window.

  • Sync after hard drive failure.

Im at my wits end-I really am. Why on earth is I Tunes so chuffin awkward.
Right after a hard drive failure I've now gone and purchased a refurb desktop. Fortunately on my previous I Tunes library the default location for the library was on an external hard drive.
Following the simple instructions I transferred that music folder onto my desktop and into a folder called I Tunes Library. I then dragged and dropped that folder into I Tunes.
I attempted to sync my I Pod but the error message was stated there was not enough room on my I Pod Touch. I found this curious because my entire I Tunes library only amounted to 47gb and my touch is 60gb.
I found out the reason for this was because some of the the library I had imported from my external hard drive had duplicated some of the music thus making my library larger than 60gb.
As I Tunes doesnt allow you to sync from your touch to a new I Tunes library (why???Grrrr) I completed a factory reset wiping all of my music and once again tried syncing from I Tunes.
To my horror about a third of the library has duplicated and even after manually removing those duplicates and a lot of my music is missing from I Tunes HOWEVER on my external hard drive that missing music is showing there?
    Can anyone help??

    Hi!
It seems that your iPhone is properly connected to the Sync server and that you need to add your computer to your previous account. In order to do so:
    # At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options. . In the Options window, click on the Sync tab.
    # Click Set Up Firefox Sync
    # Under I already have a Firefox Sync account click Connect and then select "I don't have the device with me" just below the three boxes.
If you have already created a new account in your computer and you want to log in with your Firefox Home application, "Sign out" and set up the application again. The data you are going to lose is the one in Firefox Home. If you have restored the information in your desktop browser the data will appear in your iPhone once the sync is done.
Unfortunately, Firefox Home doesn't have the ability to send the bookmarks stored there to your computer so if you need to restore them in your computer and you don't have the Sync Key to restore the account in your computer, your only option is to copy them manually.
I hope this information helps you.

  • My MacBook Pro crashed and  need the files on my hard drive, but I only have a Windows PC. How can I get then out?

I got my MacBook Pro in 2004.
Over the years, I have put many files in it.
And now that it crashed, I need help to get then back.
The only problem is that I don't have another Mac, only a pc..
    Please help...

    Hi H,
The first MBP was produced in 2006, so you either don't have a MBP or it's from 2006 or later.
    You have no backup?
    What "crashed?"
If the HD is good, you can put it in an external enclosure and access it with a Mac from there.

  • Export IPhoto Library from Aperture back to IPhoto

Restoring from your backup would be the fastest way.

  • I need to restore iphoto library from time machine, but have a question

I need to rebuild my library but already have 5 libraries which are taking too much space on my HD to finish a complete rebuild. Is it safe to move those 5 libraries to the trash and restore the one from time machine???
    thanks in advance,
    Kari

IF nothing goes wrong - hardware - software - human - then you will be fine
Personally my photos are important to me and I'd purchase an external harddrive and backup everything to it first - then do the deletes/rebuild etc
Then I would continue using the new EHD for a second backup using a clone package (Carbon Copy Cloner or SUperDuper)
