Need to extend the airport distance

is there anyway to extend the distance or reach of the airpot?

Yes. You can add a second 802.11 AirPort Extreme or Express to extend the wireless range of the first.

  • Help!!! Need to extend the airport wireless range for my place of business

I was recently moved to an area in my place of business where my wireless connection is just out of range from my macbook pro. My job requires me to be connected constantly to the internet and am stuck on how I can reconnect to our companies wifi network access. Are there any 3rd party products that can help me boost the wifi signal from my macbook? Please keep in mind that for a better part of the day im in my pickup so I can't use something like an airport express since I don't have an outlet to connect it to.
    TY in advance.
P.S. Im about 200 feet away from our networks closest access point.

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 is for Snow Leopard onwards.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • I upgraded my Airport Express from g to n and now my older desktop running 10.5.8 cannot connect even when I supply the correct password. Do I need to update the airport in the 10.5.8 system? What version is recommended?

I recently replaced my Airport Express (11g) to one running 11n. My iMac running 10.4.11 uded to work fine with 11g but now cannot connect to the 11n Airport Express.  I can see the network listed and it asks for a WAP2 password, but when I supply the password it fails to connect.
Do I need to upgrade the airport software on the iMac, and to which version.
    Bill Pratt

    Tesserax,
Thank you for the suggestions. I tried first setting the radio mode to 802.11b/g compatible using the Option key hint that you supplied, but I got the same error message when I tried to join the network from my older Mac. (I apologize for saying in error that it was running 10.5.8, it was actually running 10.4.11--the last version that still supported Classic--and is a G4 PPC machine.)
The attempt to login to the network from the PPC machine gave me the standard log-in prompt, but I noticed that it asked for the WAP password, and my two other machines--both Intel MacBooks--get asked for the WAP2 password. The first time I noticed this I was still thinking the "error in trying to join the network" was a function of the 802.11n setup.
When your first suggestion didn't work, I reset the base station back to the original 802.11n (b & g compatible) but got the same error message--asking for a WAP password--so I went back into the setup, and selected the WAP/WAP2 Personal menu selection, restarted the base station, and was able to successfully join the network!
Your tip led me to the right place to fix my problem, Thank You,
    Bill Pratt

  • I have an Airport Express that I am trying to use connected by ethernet to my iMac G4 running Mac OS 10.4.11.  I need to update the Airport software in order to use security option WPA2 Personal.  I currently have Airport software v. 5.6.1.

I have an Airport Express that I am trying to use connected by ethernet to my iMac G4 running Mac OS 10.4.11.  I need to update the Airport Express softwart in order to use security option WPA2 Personal to connect to the internet through my Airport Extreme.  I currently have Airport Express software version 5.6.1.  How can I update this software? (I can connect directly to my Airport Extreme by ethernet and download the update that way).  Is a later version of A E software available for download anywhere?   Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Download and install AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger" here:
    AirPort Utility 5.4.2
Once installed, launch AirPort Utility. It will tell you if a firmware upgrade is available for your Express.

  • I need to extend the schema for iPlanet Dir. 5.0 and add custom objectclasses and atributes. I do this by adding entries in the 99user.ldif file. Its not working. Any ideas?

    Hi
I need to extend the schema for iPlanet Dir. 5.0 and I do not want to do so from the console. As per the documentation, I need to either add entries in the 99user.ldif file or define my own custom [00-99]myname.ldif file. I tried this but its not working.
I have made the assumption that there is no explicit import step for the 'user defined' schema files (as it is for user data ldif files). I assume that on start (or on opening the console), I'd be able to see the new schema after the server has read the schema file.
I have verified that entering new objectclasses and attributes from the console adds entries into the 99user.ldif file. So why is the reverse process not working. Can anybody throw some light on this? Also in case my assumptions are faulty, please let me know.
I did not change the aci entries in the existing ldif file. Is any modification needed there? I was logged in as the Directory Manager during this testing process.
    regards
    Sikka ([email protected])

    Hi Sikka,
The server reads its schema configuration on startup. If you manually modify the schema files while the server is running, it will not have any effect. You have to restart the server.
The console adds the new schema elements over LDAP (you could do that as well, you only have to modify the cn=schema entry), so the server is aware of the changes immediately and thus restarting is not needed.
    I hope this helps.

  • I need to extend the power/thunderbolt connection to my airmac

i need to extend the power and thunderbolt cables to my airmac

The battery stops charging when it reaches 100%, so there is no harm you can do. In fact, it's better to use your MacBook Pro plugged most of the time (but don't forget to use the battery daily).

  • Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

    Hi Tracy,
I have an airport express connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear modem which is connected to a phone socket. Those devices stay at one end of the house. I can use my MacBook Pro to connect to the internet (by Wi-Fi, no cables) anywhere else in the house.  I hope this helps.

  • HT1515 do you need to connect the airport express to a router via ethernet or can it do it using wireless?

do you need to connect the airport express to a router via ethernet or can it do it using wireless?

There are 3 Apple routers....AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. Details here:
    http://www.apple.com/compare-wifi-models/
Do you have one of these products in the living room?
If no, you can only use the AirPort Express by connecting to the router in the living room using an Ethernet cable at all times.

  • HT4259 I am trying to connect airport express to extend the range of my airport tower. What type of cords do I need to connect the airport express to a hardwired outlet in the wall of a bedroom?

I am trying to connect my airport express to extend the range of my network to a bedroom that is hard wired for internet. What type of cord/cords do I need to do that?

You can connect the AirPort Express to the wall port in the bedroom for the setup.....but first....if you have not already done so.....it would be a great idea to make sure that the connection in the bedroom is working correctly.
To do that, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop directly to the wall port in the bedroom using an Ethernet cable. Make sure that the laptop can get a good Internet connection that way.  If it can, this tells you that the cabling is working correctly, so the Express will work well when you connect it up.
If you don't have a laptop with an Ethernet port, then we'll have to assume that the folks that pulled the cables and installed the jacks tested things as part of the installation.
When you are ready to install the Express, you can use an iPhone or iPad if you have one handy for the setup.

  • I have a Time Capsule as my main WiFi router in my home.  I'd like to extend my WiFi service to my guest house located approx 100 feet away. Will the AirPort Express fill this need?  Is the AirPort Extreme a better fit?

I am using a Time Capsule in conjunction with my IMAC 27" system as my main WiFi router in my home.  I would like to extend my WiFi service to my guest house which is located about 100 feet away.  Can I use the Airport Express to provide this extended range?  Would I be better served to use the Airport Extreme?  Thanks!

The normal location for an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme is a point that is about half way between the main router....the Time Capsule in this case.....and the area that needs more wireless coverage.....the guest house.
I doubt that you will be able to locate an AirPort at this "half way" point, correct?
Before you buy anything, take a laptop, iPhone, iPad, etc out to the guest house as a test to see if you can log on and get a reliable Internet connection over the wireless.
If you can, then either an AirPort Express or AirPort Exreme could  be used to provide additional wireless signal coverage in the guest house.
If you cannot get a reliable connection with the "test" mentionded above, neither AirPort will help since they can only "extend" the quality of signal that they receive.
If this is the case, you will need to look at running an Ethernet cable from the Time Capsule out to the guest house to provide the reliable connection that you will need.

  • What cables are needed to extend the range of my airport extreme with my time capsule

I just purchased a new Time Capsule, and I want to install it and use my current Airport Extreme to extend our home's wireless network. What extra cables are needed, and is there a diagram for this setup? We currently have a broadband network.

Apple's instructions to do this are here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260
You will need an Ethernet cable to connect your new Time Capsule to the AirPort Extreme.

  • If i already own a mac laptop and apple tv do i need to purchase the airport express as well?

we already own a macbook, ipad, apple tv and iphone...do we need to purchase airport express as another item?

If you already have a router, then AEX is unnecessary, unless:
You like to stream music from your macbook to your home theater without running your apple tv or tv, period - AEX has an optical audio line out amd can stream lossless signal from iTunes.
Your iPad won't be able to do that because it will require Apple Tv in the middle whcih is, I assume, already connected to your home theater anyway.
    or
you want to have other speakers around the house or outdoors to play music from your macbook too
I use AEX to play in my garage, plus it extends the coverage of my WIFI a bit furter around that side of the house.

  • Do I need to extend the OS disk if my Datastore is thin provisioned?

I noticed on my windows server (VM) that one of the disk drives was getting low. This was showing 22gb free from the OS. (Windows 2008 R2)  It is functioning as the file storage and print server.   So, I extended the SAN LUN by 100gb, extended the vCenter Datastore by the same amount and now it's showing in vCenter that I have an extra 100gb of space. On the OS, it's still showing 22gb free.  I know that if I go into the VM and edit the properties of the disk drive, and add up to 100gb of space, then on the OS, in this case Windows I can go into disk management and extend the volume I will see the additional space.  My question, Do I need to do this if my Datastore is thin provisioned? Will it not grow if needed?  or am I getting the OS and VMware confused as to how it functions?

You will need increase the size of virtual disk on the properties of virtual machine to the desired size and after this, if Windows, go to disk management (or diskpart) and extend the disk.
And about the thin provisioning concept, you're confused and I recommend you read this article: Using thin provisioned disks with virtual machines (1005418)

  • Extending the AirPort network

Can I use AirPort express model no A1264 as a range extender with AirPort express model no A1392 as the primary router ?

If you begin with a "hard reset" of each base station, and connect them as you intend to use them, AirPort Utility will lead you step by step to the correct configuration. Make sure the A1264 Express is well within the wireless range of the primary router.
