Hi,
Need help to fix this problem for Facetime "connecting.." ??? PLEASE.
Sometimes my facetime is working. But in some contacts it is not working.
They can accept my calls, but it is stuck on "connecting.." Then it will end in a few seconds.

Unfortunately yes, though technology would never move on if it kept to older standards and did not strive to do more.
The app store always gives you the option to use a previous version of the app IF it is available for your device.

It also may take a bit for Apple servers to update your information. You are sure it is this iPad that you removed from your Apple ID?
I would wait an hour or so and try it again. You may want to put it in Recovery Mode:

[SOLVED] Network connection issues - need to make connections twice

I've a strange issue with my network connection that has recently started to appear where if I:
- Attempt to install a package with pacman.
- Visit a webpage in chromium.
- FTP a file using Thunar.
- SSH into a server.
Then I quite often have to attempt the connection twice i.e:
- Pacman will return "error: failed retrieving file" on a first attempt, but be fine on the second.
- Chromium (or any other browser) will partially load pages or will show a 'Server Not Found' message on the first attempt but be OK after a refresh.
- FTP will not resolve the server on the first attempt but will on the second.
- ssh will return "Could not resolve hostname Name or service not known" on the first attempt then be fine on the second.
This issue just used to occur with pacman & ssh and I just put it down to 'one of those things I needed to fix when I had time'. Yet the issue has recently started occuring with chromium as well so is making browsing the web a real pain.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to track down the issue so would appreciate any tips!
I'm using netctl to connect over wifi & just as I tried to post this message an error appeared in Chromium which may give me some hints as to how to fix this:
The server at bbs.archlinux.org can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Chromium from accessing the network.
I'm using netcl to connect over wifi.
I also recently installed dhcpd which I occasionally start and stop though the issue with pacman & ssh was occurring before this.

Thanks for that Strike0. It prompted a thorough reading of a number of man pages, though while I 'think' I understand the general concept of how things should be working, I'm finding the configuration confusing!!
I created and added some nameserver settings to the following config file '/etc/resolv.conf.head' (googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 also work):
$ vim /etc/resolv.conf.head
# OpenDNS servers
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
Then I reload /etc/resolv.conf and view its new content:
$ resolvconf -u;cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by resolvconf
# OpenDNS servers
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
domain home
nameserver 192.168.1.254
And this seems to make everything work, where network connection are being reached after the first attempt!!
Though I'm confused why 192.168.1.254 is being used? Am I right in understanding that 192.168.1.254 is a broadcast address so all network devices on 192.168.1.* are being queried for a DNS server? If I use the host command on 192.168.1.254 it seems to fail. Does this fail mean that my home router is not working correctly or theres' an internal config issue?

What does the "Host gudrun.archlinux.org.home not found: 2(SERVFAIL)" output mean? Where is it getting the .home name from?

In one of the man pages I saw that you can test an internal DNS with:

Though wouldn't a dhcpd4.service need to be running for that to work?
Lots of questions I know, but I would like to understand exactly what's happening so I can easily trouble shoot in the future.

Why does unchecking the "use automatic configuration script" box on Internet Explorer 8 fix connectivity errors?

As long as I have been in the job and we have been using IE as our browser, we have controlled the proxy settings with an automatic configuration file.
Recently, with IE8 on WinXP and Win7, we have had situations with the user getting various connectivity errors. By unchecking the "use automatic configuration script" box, they start working. But we don't change anything else.
These error are not consistent from machine to machine.
We are in a AD Domain environment
These are the two errors I have documented.
Error: 5
Description: The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
Access to resrouce is forbidden by server while attempting to access server at
http://content.mpl.org/cgi-bin/admin/pwtest.exe?CISOVER=60.
Please check the permissions to the file on th eserver.
Two very different problems. Both somehow fixed by unchecking the box.
The config file itself has not been changed in over a year.
Can anyone explain why unchecking this box, but not making any other changes to the proxy settings would fix connectivity problems? These are all external sites that need to go through the proxy.

Attention Apple and Ebay - Safari NEEDS to fixed ASAP

I am getting SOOOOO tired of this. Apple and Ebay need to sit down and figure out these issues. I sent this to Apple and, HOPEFULLY, they will start listening. I just can't deal with this anymore. I can't stand Firefox but I am being forced to use it. Here are the issues I am experiencing that I forwarded to Apple. I am trying to tell ebay, but Live Chat has stopped working, too.
1. To all the people still experiencing the "t" issue in Live Chat....CAPITAL T works fine. You have to look like you are shouting at the ebay rep (and explain why you look that way), but you will be able to type normally with the letter t. I figured this out by accident over a year ago. I keep a text edit file with the explanation as to why I am "screaming" at them because its a paragraph and takes too long to type.
2. Live chat does not work AT ALL. I am never connected to the server. The kicker??? As of last night, it was no longer working in Firefox. So, I am now downloading Camino. Hopefully it works because I need to contact them ASAP (I bought an iMac and the seller is a no show).
3. The following are all ebay (not apple) issues, I am sure:
Playground searching does not work unless you are in the annoying, flash snapshot view.
Sometimes, I will want to search All Categories or Just Comp&Netwrk and it automatically jumps to a specific category no matter what I do.
My feedback rating was 220 and now it reads 219. No, I do not have a negative or neutral (I have 100%) so my rating should not have gone down.
When I tried to pay for an item last night, ebay takes you to a page that says you have to log into Paypal. But when you get there, the Login button is just an IMAGE. I had to go to Firefox to pay.
4. Ebay pages fail to load. I have to keep hitting refresh (sometimes 15-20 x's) to get the auction page to load.
Lots of others are experiencing listing issues. I use GarageSale so this is a non-issue for me. Apple, I love Safari, so much so that I don't even WANT other browsers on my computer, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to use ebay without SEVERAL other browsers. This is ridiculous and unacceptable. We need this FIXED. I have experienced these issues (some longer than others) for over 2 YEARS. Please, meet with ebay and repair the app.

I agree, but it is not just ebay. I do alot of searching and many sites won't connect the first time or i get "can't find the server' but less than a minute later I get it. This should not be and I cannot download the new safari I have 10.4.11 and it won't let me. Also, I can't get me.com or .mac any more directly. I used to, but my mac will not recognize the passwords now or the site. I have to go through the apple site although I have paid through next april. I am ready to scream when I have paid for one of the most expensive home computers out there.

Do I need an internet connection for Apple TV?

Hey I want to buy an Apple TV but before I do, I need to know does it require an internet connection to work? Or can it work without one?
The advertisement or information Apple gives me seems like it doesn't need an internet connection, I'm under the impression that if I buy one all I need is to connect it to my television then connect wirelessly from my iPad to the Apple TV device. Then I can begin streaming content to my TV via the Apple TV product.
However I came across a thing telling me I needed an internet connection in order for it to work, but where our televisions are, either the wireless internet is weak to nothing, and is unreliable from that distance, I want to be able to simply connect and play but now it seems Apple is misleading me on the capability of Apple TV.
I want to stream YouTube from my iPad to Apple TV, putting my iPad in a stronger range area and connected to Apple TV stream it... Or more importantly play content I have already on my device i.e. Video podcasts like IGN's Daily Fix, and stream it directly through the Apple TV onto my TV.
Please list all relevant information and requirements and capability I would have with Apple TV? I'm no where near an Apple store so I'll have to buy online so I want to make sure the product will work like they say it's suppose to.

I have the same issue and couldn't find an answer either. The problem is that the Apple TV requires an internet connection if you want to AirPlay internet content from your iPhone to the Apple TV, e.g. if the Apple TV isn't connected to the internet somehow, then Netflix or Youtube won't AirPlay from the iPhone to the Apple TV. I don't have a "house" internet connection currently, and when I bought my iPhone I was assuming I just can use my unlimited data plan to watch Netflix movies on the iPhone and AirPlay it to the big screen. No luck here, yet!!!
You can use the iPhone Hotspot and connect the AppleTV to that Hotspot, but I have a 5GB limit and that will be depleted with 2 movies or so, so that doesn't work either. I also can use the Hotspot to connect to my MacAir, which works great and 5GB limit is not the issue if you don't use it for movies, online gaming etc. But you could run into issues if you have to download big files, like updating the OS etc. That is something you have to consider when you are cutting the home internet.
I tried to somehow have the Apple TV use the Hotspot internet connection to just have access to the internet but use the iPhone unlimited data plan to stream movies, but the problem is that Apple TV can only connect to 1 WiFi network at a time and while it is connected to the hotspot, you can't connect to another network for AirPlay your content. Also, the ethernet port on the Apple TV (if used) will be prioritized and then WiFi would be turned off, ruling out the possibility to use ethernet and WiFi simultaneously to have one connected to the network using AirPlay and one using the Hotspot internet access. I believe the real problem is that the Apple TV needs internet access (for verification purposes???) while using AirPlay, and if there is no internet access through the network you are using for AirPlay, it might not work, at least I couldn't find a solution for it yet.
I was reading that with iOS 8 there might be a new feature that uses Peer-to-Peer technology between iOS devices and Apple TV, that might enable that you can connect to Apple TV with Peer-to-Peer and also connect it with the iPhone Hotspot for internet access (I would assume that the data amount from just being connected to the internet would be minor if the streaming data comes from the data plan itself from the iPhone).
That said, I can still stream content from my iTunes library to Apple TV, which is stored on my computer and doesn't need to be downloaded or streamed (Not the content I have purchased. Some folks mentioned bought content still needs internet access). So you can use your content you already have on the computer by using your local network. I hope somebody can give a solution to that problem! I was hoping to never have to deal with cable or telephone companies ever again, just using my mobile carrier, but I might be out of luck!
P.S: I also tried to connect my MacAir with the iPhone hotspot and then share this internet connection from the MacAir with my Apple TV. Didn't work either :-(

It has no correlation. You do not have to have an Apple ID in order house an iPhone. An Apple ID is only needed to use iCloud and iTunes & App Store on an iPhone. You can have an iPhone set up as new, no user data whatsoever, and still connect to wi-fi.
Making a new Apple ID had nothing to do with fixing the wi-fi on your iPhone. It's like saying that putting a new driver into a car suddenly fixed the transmission problem.

I can't get on. It keeps saying WWF needs an internet connection. Why does it constantly do this? I can gain access for days at a time and then it kind of freezes. What do I do.

I am unable to open my Photoshop program after installing the entire Creative Suite: Premium Production 6. All other programs work, but with Photoshop it says that the program is "locked or in use by another user". I need this fixed immediately.

Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock this file. I installed all of the programs on the same day from a CD. I need this fixed immediately.
I am not interested in switching to Creative Cloud, so don't even suggest it. I spoke to Mashmi (or something to that effect) on the "Support" Chat and there was absolutely no support. Useless actually.

It says it needs to be connected to itunes and restored. when i do that, it goes through the whole process then comes up with "iphone could not be restored. unknown error code (-1)". Please help

My brother gave me his old iphone when the touch screen went out on mine. It's in great shape but when I received it, it says that it needs to be connected to itunes to be restored. I have done this and it goes through the whole process then says iphone "iphone" could not be restored. unknown error code (-1). There is not a -1 code on the list and I have tried most of the suggestions.
Does my sim card need to be in when I am doing this? And any other suggestions?

Do I need a cable connecting my Time Capsule to Airport Express if I want to use the AE to extend my wifi network range?

I'm a bit confused by conflicting advice given by my local Apple shop and my internet provider.
My cable modem is plugged into a Time Capsule which I use to access the net wirelessly almost all over the house. The one spot the wireless doesn't quite reach is (of course) where I now need my office and iMac to be.
I thought I could just plug in an Airport Express somewhere in the middle to extend the network's range but the guy at my local Apple shop said the Airport Express would need to be connected not just to power but to the Time Capsule, via a cable. That's fiddly and would involve cables running under the floor or along walls and ceilings, not something I can or really want to do. It's not really practical to try and move the cable connection point either.
My internet provider suggested a netgear wireless extender and said that would only need to be plugged into power. The reviews of the netgear product I found comparing it to Airport Express suggest that the Express doesn't need to be connected to anything other than power either to extend a network range (which was what I originally thought).
So I'm wondering which advice is correct? I've also read that the netgear product isn't all that easy to set up so I'd rather stick with. Apple if it will do what I want.

I'm sure that the guy at the Apple shop means well, but he is not correct.
While it would be preferable to connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Express using a wired Ethernet connection, the Express can connect wirelessly and extend the wireless signal the same way....IF...it is located where it can receive a good wireless signal.
