Need to fix Set Alpha and other effects

too many effects still have glitches! Set Aplha blinks instead of setting alpha... others behave similarly... after 2 "new" releases of the software, you'd think glitches would get solved.... fail

Ranting (almost in two identical posts) has not much sense in a user forum: we are all users here, spending some free time to help other users. If you want to be heard by Adobe you should use other channels like bug reporting.

If you did not get an OS X install-restore DVD with the computer you may need
to buy one from somewhere, and you may be lucky to get a retail OS X 10.5.x
version. The original grey-label install set of software and OS X it shipped with
likely would be an older system than Leopard 10.5. Last versions of G4 Mac, &
G5, shipped with a Tiger 10.4 system; so did early Intel-based Mac. Grey discs
which accompanied other computer build models generally do not interchange.
The last OS X version a PowerPC architecture can use, if supported, is 10.5.8.
A PPC processor at 867MHz & faster should be able to run OS X 10.5 Leopard.

things including re-install, and perform disk utility functions, etc.}
There is a chance you may be able to get a white-label Replacement 10.4 DVD
or Replacement 10.5 DVD from AppleCare or the online Apple Store (800myapple)

as not all persons involved with them seem to know if they still exist until someone
is asking. These aren't retail stock, are special discs for computers who could use
a system later than original old discs; these are complete install discs not for one
specific series of Mac. Generally they'd work in supported PowerPC G4/G5; but
do not replace specialized original install DVD, such as an early Intel mac requires.
You'd need to have a serial number of the computer, and a method of payment
when seeking some replacement system media from Applecare or Apple sales
and these discs are not available in a retail store. The original Retail discs are
labeled differently and shipped in a retail box with a big X on the front. Other
sources for retail 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard may be online via amazon sellers
or computer resellers who handle repaired Macs. Avoid mystery grey label ones
that were intended to be sold and kept with their original computer kits.

EdAdding compression (and other effects) to regions only) want different ty

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to Logic and I'm trying to find out how to add compression to specific regions in a track. I recorded a live band and I recorded and I want different types of compression (and other effects like eq and even panning) for different parts of the song. For example. I have a guitar track that I recorded , I split the track up from one region into several regions corresponding to the sections of the song. Now I want to add different effects to these different regions. Can I do this in one track or do I need to split all these regions up into their own tracks. I can only see how to add effects at the track level. I can only edit certain things (like Normalization) in the sample editor.

Different ways of doing this:
*If you want to add effects for the different regions on the same track you will have to automize the compressor/Eq/panning settings
*You can setup different tracks with different Fx settings and move the regions to those new tracks - this way you don't have to automize the different parameters
*If you want to destructively edit the regions you can either do that in Soundtrack Pro (select the region and hit shift+w to open it in SP - add you fx in there - save the file and it will be updated in Logic)
or
*rerecord the regions with the fx through a Bus directly into Logic - route the region track to a Bus and select that Bus as an Input for a new Audio track
or
*bounce/reimport the region+fx

Slow motion and other effects are grayed out

Just switched from iMovie 9 to 11, and can't take advantage of the slow motion, instant replay and other effects, because they are all grayed out in the Clip menu. Why? I do not see the "convert entire clip" option referred to in the help file. What is wrong?

Yes, that is it. The trailers are pretty scripted.
If you want to add an effect to a trailer, first complete the trailer.
Then, in the Project Library List view, right click on the trailer name, and select DUPLICATE. (This will give you a copy of the trailer in case you want to edit it some more.)
Then, with the trailer name still selected, click FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT.
This will turn your trailer into a normal project, and you can use any of the capabilities of iMovie, including the slow motion and instant replay effects.

Setting UI60_ICON and other environment variables

Hi, I am developing using forms 6i. I tried setting the UI60_ICON environment variable from
1. The Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Environment Variable -> System Variables and
2. The Registry Editor -> Edit ->New -> String Value
But my icons will still not appear in my forms. Can some one help me.
I do not add the .ico extension when I use the icon name. And I also make sure the icon has been place in the path I have stated. The icon appears when I place them in the FORMS60 environment variable.

Is there anyway I could get my FX and other effects to work on my Galaxy Tab 4?

I try to do highlights/shadows but it never seems to make any changes. Other effects don't work either. How could I fix this?

I don't know what it is with Samsung's tablets but it's a long-standing bug with those devices. I don't know if any update fixed it since I don't use those tablets. Try looking for updates in the GALAXY Apps store?

Can anyone recommend a program or library that has backgrounds and/or other graphic elements that can be easily imported and used in Final cut pro? I am working with talking heads against a green screen and want to key them onto a background. I am not sure what programs people use to create backgrounds or other graphic elements, since it seems that most applications are used to manipulate them but not actually create them. Any suggestions on what to buy?

Livetype and maybe Motion and your own creativity are an endlessly robust library of backgrounds. All you need is time to experiment and render.
The JUICE products offer much more than just backgrounds, though. There are large collections of integrated, themed versions and variations that includes stuff for lower thirds, bumps, promos, interstitials, etc.

Need help with Emu 0404 and DSP Effects

Hi,
This might be a bit of a noob question, but I'm completely new to the world of recording and effects. I have the Emu 0404 PCI soundcard and I'm trying to record sth with the DSP effects. I used the standard settings with ASIO send (PCI Card in L) and added effects, but when I use a recording program only the clean signal is recorded. I tried moving the send insert at the end of the list, but that didn't help. So how can I record sth with the DSP effects? I couldn't really find anythinguseful in the help file.

I have the same issue, anyone know a way around this? I have
a image i wish to grow onmouse over, then using the same behavior
but shrink with mouseout, it gets some wierd issues, like if you
put the mouse in between it oscillates back and forth, its not

But, I tried to create some sample data anyway to try to get some help here, so, I created 3 tables in my test database as SELECT from the old database (via a db link).
One table was really the results of a query (with many sub-queries) that was working just fine in the old database. It was the 2nd highest level query that wasn't giving me any problems. (Below, in my query, subquery 'a' runs just fine in the test database also; it's only the top level query that gives me an error.)
The other two tables I created were just simple sub-sets of the original tables in the old database.
I ran my query in my test database against those tables, and again, it ran just fine. No character set mismatch error.

ORA-12704: character set mismatchIn my test database, in every form, including with the sample data above, I don't have any problems.
I unfortunately don't have a v8 test environment, and I suspect there aren't many people who actually do, anymore, so using my v10 test database is the best I can do to come up with test data...
The other odd thing I noticed is that when I DESC the tables I created in my test database via SELECT statements, and compare them with the tables I created from CREATE statements (based on the table descriptions I got from the old database), some of the data lengths don't match up. That's what's in the comments in my table definitions. I noted where the tables I created via SELECT statements had different data lengths. I'm not sure if it's important or not, but in case it is, I thought I'd include it.
Also, I'm creating this query to make a report for someone else, and the reporting system only has access to the v8 database, not my test database. So, I'm stuck making the query run against it.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

I think it has something to do with my CASE statement. I found a kind of work-around solution. Instead of getting payment_term_cd associated with the item_id, the person I'm creating the report for wants the payment terms associated with the cust_id. Now, btab has the one associated with item_id, and not every item_id is in the btab table, so in my query, I was assuming a default value of '03' when it didn't find a payment_term_cd (i.e. it was NULL) for an item_id, which is what my first CASE statement is doing.
However, every cust_id definitely has a payment_term_cd associated with it (in another table I did not provide sample data for, since I didn't know I'd need to use it). Here's the general idea of that table:

Can't set preferences, and other greyed menu choices

Cannot set preferences for iDVD 06, and most menu choices are greyed.
[Note: this is NOT the case with all other iLife 06 applications where all menu selections are active.]
Looking through this forum I tried deleting the files in the library, as seems to be a frequent solution to everythng. This did NOT work in my case.
This is the only program in iLife06 which has this problem. All the others have active menu selection. I can't even get "About iDVD" to work!

I would start by forcing AppleWorks to create new preference files.
Quit AppleWorks and go to the Finder.
In a finder window, go:
yourname > Library > Preferences
Locate and select the folder AppleWorks and the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
Drag both to the Desktop or to the Trash (but don't empty the Trash).
Relaunch AppleWorks to check for any change.

NOTE: This will return all preferences to their default settings. AppleWorks will construct new copies of the plist, the folder, and the files in the folder as it needs them. If you have made changes to the Button Bar, and have had no issues related to the Button Bar, you can restore those changes (probably without issues arising) by dragging the Button Bar file from the folder you moved into the new one in Preferences when it is created.

While your issue does not appear to be caused by the Recent Items bug referenced in Michael's post (after "Also perhaps..", there's no danger in clearing your Recent Items folder as discussed in the linked User Tip. This is a 'regular maintenance' procedure for me.
