Need to flash my bios? compaq cq62

Alright im currently working as an officemax tech and a friend asked me to fix his compaq cq62 when you power it on hard drive starts to spin and the power light comes on but the caps lock light blinks and screen stays blank. I had never seen this problem before and assumed was a bad hard drive/ corupted hard drive but did a quick internet search any way. After this I saw that instead they all say its either a bad bios or a bad mother board. hoping its the bios so im going to try and fix it that way. Never done a bios flash before so I need a little guidence. however if you have any advice or another way to correct this issue i'm all ears. (btw i have tried hard resets tried opening bios screens etc none work. its running win 7 if that helps any)

Have you identified the Blink code via this chart?

  • Minimum hardware needed to flash the BIOS.

K8N Neo4 Platinum MS-7125 (v1.0) MB. What is the minimum hardware needed on the motherboard to flash the BIOS using the recommended floppy with CD support and enabling the temporary virtual drive like the instructions say to do? MSI support recommends I flash to the latest BIOS (W7125NMS.145) before I start using my San Diego 4000+. So I was hoping to flash while I'm building the system up before I install the OS. So I guess what I'm asking, can I flash with just the CPU/fan, video card/monitor, and memory? And no hard drives installed?
    Thanks!

It may be advisable to use only i memory module in slot1 to give better stability

  • Need help flashing my BIOS

I just tried to flash the BIOS on my MSI Z87-G43 mb but I was unsuccessful.  I was trying to use the M-Flash capability in the BIOS but when I tried to save my current BIOS to the USB flash drive I got the message that no USB key was found and to please plug in a USB key and try again.  I decided to skip saving the current BIOS and just flash the new BIOS and the same message appeared.  I tried the USB socket on the front of my case, the USB 2.0 socket on the MB I/O panel and the USB 3.0 socket on the MB I/O panel. None of them worked.
The USB flash drive is just a generic 1 GB flash drive.  Prior to the attempts, I used the option to "Load Optimized Defaults" or whatever it is called.  Within the BIOS, I used the "Board Explorer" option and I was able to "see" my USB flash drive on the Board Explorer.
What is the trick to getting the MB to see my USB flash drive during M-Flash?

  • Satellite M305D - Need to flash the BIOS

    need flash bios program

    Hi
Why do you need a BIOS update?
A BIOS update should only be done if you have a problem with the notebook and otherwise its not necessary to update it.
However, as Eldoardo said you can find the update on the Toshiba US website.
Before you start the update, close all running programs also your antivirus and firewall and make sure that you are logged in as Administrator. Furthermore connect the AC/DC adaptor before you start the BIOS update.

  • BIOS doesnt recognize SATA connected Hard Drive- need help flashing bios from bootable USB

    hi
I have an envy laptop running InsydeH20 bios rev f14.
the bios doesn't recognize the internally connected hdd/ssd.
I have heard that with insyde bios', sometimes you have to unlock 'secret capabilities' to recognize hardware incl internal hdd.
but I am just trying to reflash my bios.
the problem is that I cant get into windows because it doesn't recognize my hard drive and windows doesn't allow insallation to usb connected drives.
I downloaded the patch from hp.com for my product and it actually has an option for making a bootable USB for use on the actual system, and I did this. the instructions are to just restart my computer with the bootable usb. I have tried Legacy support on and off, neither updates bios.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with the physical sata connector.
basically I need to flash my bios from bootable usb. I have done some research about making a bootable dos usb etc etc but I don't know what program to even run and how..
this is a link to my product:

    hi
I need to flash the bios of my system. the bios is not recognizing hardware and cannot boot into windows to run the bios flash for windows.
on my other comp I ran the bios update patch and chose ' install to bootable usb ' so that I could use it on my system.
cannot run on my laptop. tried booting from the media. tried allowing 'legacy' compatibility.
im running insydeH2O rev f14 right now.

  • Flashing the BIOS

I've just updated to the newest BIOS for my K7N2 Delta-ILSR mobo.  Was just wondering if I need to flash my BIOS with earlier BIOS versions or will the newest one (which I already have) do?  Are all the updates in the older BIOS versions contained in the latest BIOS update?

Updating bios is not a matter of kind of sport. You should update bios only if you need to.- And yes, latest bios ver. have all older updates.

  • Flashing the BIOs of a Hp dv6-2010sa laptop.

I have a HP Pavillion DV6-2010sa laptop thats running windows 7.
No picture display when i turn on the laptop, just caps lock and num lock LEDs flash twice.
I looked this up and it means corrupt BIOS....
Now in order to fix this i need to flash my BIOS using a USB thumb drive ( pressing and holding Windows Key + B on start-up)
The file provided by HP only extracts into a WinFLash.exe, so i used winRAR to extract the 3635F13.FD file from WinFlash.exe.
I understand i need rename the .FD file my question is what do i have to name the 3635F13.FD file in order to get the thumb drive to flash the BIOS.
I have been trying to sort this out for ages to no avail.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • My compaq cq62-214nr will not boot from a usb flash drive

I have a Compaq CQ62-214 NR Notebook. When I enter the bios boot options screen with F9 there is a blank space where Boot from USB/Flash Drive should be. If I enter the bios setup and move usb flash drive up to the first option above Notebook hardrive and Internal CD/DVD Rom ,save the changes to the BIOS then Reboot. Enter the boot options screen again the blank line moves up to the first choice slot but still is blank. If I press enter over that black option the computer does not boot from the OS I have install on the usb flash drive it just starts its normal windows boot screen. YES I have upgraded the BIOS to the lates version F.37
Can somone tell me what is wrong.

Try booting into the one time boot menu.
Step 1: As soon as you turn on the computer on the hp invent screen keep tapping F9 key.
Step 2: you will get boot otions such as hard drive, optical drive, USb drive
Step 3: You can hit enter on the usb flash drive. Should boot from the os on your flash drive

Oh yeah which utility do i need to re-flash - WFFLASH or NvFlash!
Hope to find some help here ! !
    THanksss !!

    Utk,
The BIOS is static and flashing back probably won't make things better. I believe your scores or performance is suffering from OS decay. It might be a good idea to review all the software you have installed since you flashed your BIOS and see what's running in the backround. Perhaps even a fresh install of the drivers, maybe even a fresh install of the OS.
Read this link, it saves me the time of going into detail http://www.computerclub.org/tips_tricks/tip_performance2.htm

    Looking for performance degradation
Before I move on, let me point out that there's another area where benchmarking software really shines for computer users and that is in keeping an eye out for performance degradation due to OS (Operating System) Decay.
This type of problem is little understood but very common. Let's take a closer look. As you've been using your existing operating system over time, you've probably installed, upgraded, and uninstalled numerous applications. In addition, you've probably added and removed lots of hardware and device drivers. Furthermore, you may have upgraded your operating system with a multitude of patches, bug fixes, and updates.
Considering all the wear and tear these types of operations put on your operating system, chances are good that you've experienced OS decay first hand. Some of the symptoms of OS decay are frequent system lockups or crashes, strange error messages, unusually slow performance, and Windows directory that's bloated with files.
Of course you must realize that OS decay is actually a natural occurrence that results from the heavy use of your system. You could look at the OS decay problem much as you would look at an aging automobile—no matter how well you take care of it, eventually you're going to have to buy a new one.
Fortunately, you don't have to buy a new computer to solve the OS decay problem; you just have to rebuild the operating system from scratch.
As such, the question is not if you must rebuild, but when you must rebuild. If you regularly check your computer and keep tabs on your system's progress over time, you'll have a much better picture of when the OS decay has gotten so bad that it's degrading the overall performance of your system.

  • Do I need to flash bios P7N SLI platinum CPU upgrade from E8200 to QX9650?

    Hi everybody,
just registered and new to this forum. Just want to ask if anybody here have any idea if there are compatablity issues and do I need to flash BIOS of my M/B whenever I upgrade my CPU from E8200 to QX9560? my rig specs are listed below:
CPU - E8200 core 2 Duo (planning to upgrade to QX9560)
    M/B - MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    RAM - 4 X 1g DDR2 800mhz Kingston
    PSU - 1000w Coolermaster
    VGA - 2 x Nvidia GTX285 (SLIED)
    DVD/R/W - 2
Any suggestions and recommendation are very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    znarf

Do you really mean QX9560? I can't seem to find it on the motherboard's support list.
If you meant the QX9650, it says it requires BIOS v1.0, which it should have already come with. Check out in CPU-Z what BIOS version you currently have.

  • Need help flashing 865PE Neo2 BIOS

I recently bought a MSI 865PE Neo2-S and it came with the 1.2 Bios, I can't get a good overclock from this bios, and when I use corecenter to raise the FSB to 250 at 5:4 ratio it shows 3000 mhz but I see no changes in WCPUID etc, so I decided to flash to the 1.52 BIOS, i've already got it here but I hear you can use a flasher instead of doing the old floopy, dos thing
I downloaded LiveUpdate3 but it will flash my BIOS to 1.4 and I just want to install 1.52
I did a quick search around the forums and didn't find much about it, any help would be appreciated

First of all I suggest that you install LIVE MONITOR and LIVE UPDATE utilities.  Secondly, get yourself a new floppy disk.  Allow utility to go online and retrieve updates for your product.  After that the utilty will tell you what it found. follow directions to the T and install any NEW DRIVERS BEFORE YOU DO ANY FLASHING!!! Reboot new drivers run utility (LIVE-UPDATE)and choose BOIS and start. I recomend you select DOS option over WINDOWS option FOLLOW DIRECTIONS IT WILL PROMPT YOU.. DO NOT!! REBOOT!! UNTIL PROMPTED!! GOOD LUCK!  Sean Reilly875

  • GT70-2OC BIOS and may need blind-flash

    Hi,
I need a latest working BIOS. it's just that I seem to have a problem of not being able to access BIOS using DEL/F2 on boot.
I tried updating to E1763IMS.50V which works, then E1763IMS.518 where it doesn't seem to boot anymore. I'm hoping someone could also help me out with this.
Is this somehow bricked? Can anyone provide a better instruction on how to recover this? So far I've tried CMOS reset, and battery drain.
Need guidance and support. Thank you

I just stated that I can't even boot at all. So no OS.
I'm hoping not to get go with RMA. I'm a technical guy and I know almost what I did, yet got totally unlucky on *518* BIOS.
On other hand, just thinking ahead for worst case scenario... can anyone here point out exactly where the BIOS chip on the mobo? A screenshot will be very helpful. And also, is it possible to ask for support to provide me an actual chip-image of the BIOS so I can reprogram it when needed.
    Thanks in advance

  • Do I need to Flash Bios?

    Ok so here goes
    I've got a K9AG Neo2 - Digitial Motherboard
    BIOS V1.5 101507
The problem started when i upgrading my cpu from a AMD Athlon X2 4200 to a 6000
When installed however no power goes to my keyboard and mouse and also my monitor dosen't work i was baffled at first but just thought it was a video problem, however after checking everything was installed properly the same problem occurs. Sometimes there is a sucessful POST beep with a blank screen sometimes there's no beeps.
Anyway i uninstalled my Video Card and low and behold the computers works, I checked the  "My Computer" properties and it recognised the new processor, so now i'm thinking it's something to do with an inadeqaute power supply, makes sense as i've got a power hungry nvidia 8800gt. So i installed an old video card with much less power demand and now the computer's doing exactly the same thing ie no power in the keyboad, mouse and monitor.
I know flashing the Bios updates it and makes it more compatible with new devices so i was thinking maybe the Motherboard is having problem with the new processsor and dosen't know how to work in conjuction with a video card as well. Do you think i should update the BIOS or continue troubleshooting the power supply?
Anyhelp would be great as i'm completely out of my depth.
