Need to get imovie file to VHS format.

I did some wedding footage for a friend and she needs copies of the final movie on video tape as well as dvd. How can I easily get the file copied to a video tape?
I have a formac converter, but don't know how to get the connections to tape FROM the computer.
any help very much appreciated...
-James

Hi James:
Welcome
You can use the DV camera that it was taped with as a pass thru to the VHS.
*Plug the camera into the wall (don't use the battery for this)
*Connect camera to mac with 4-pin to 6-pin Firewire cable
*Connect camera to VHS with RCA Jacks
*Be sure camera is recognized by imovie (if so then the camera is on and set to Play mode)
*"Share" to camera
When it starts to share to the camera, hit record on the VHS recorder. That way you have a clean copy on the DV tape as well for future iMovie editing if desired.

  • I am trying to make a pdf of a file and I need to get the file size to be no bigger than 10MB. What is the best way to do this

I am trying to make a pdf of a file and I need to get the file size to be no bigger than 10MB. Even when I save it, the image quality at minimum the file size is 10.9 MB. What is the best way to do this

@Barbara – What purpose is that PDF for? Print? Web?
If web purpose, you could convert CMYK images to sRGB. That would reduce the file size as well.
A final resort to bring down file size is:
    1. Print to PostScript
    2. Distill to PDF
That would bring file size down even more. About 20%, depending on the images and other contents you are using, compared with the Acrobat Pro method. If you like you could send me a personal message, so we could exchange mail addresses. I could test for you. Just provide the highres PDF without any downsampling and transparency intact. Best provide a PDF/X-4.
I will place the PDF in InDesign, print to PostScript, distill to PDF.

Not those whole folders, but their contents, maybe.
If the user account now on the Mac has read rights to the user account(s) on the backups, yes.  If not, you may have to do some finagling.
Try the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17.  If you find an account that can open those folders, restore what you want to an alternate location (#16 in the FAQ).
If not try creating one or more accounts temporarily.

  • For a sales org, I need to get a file of all materials listed to each sales district.

    Hi,
I'm new to SAP, so I figured that best way to learn is to ask questions.    For a sales org, I need to get a file of all materials listed to each of their sales districts.  They are trying to see how often some materials are repeated amongst the sales districts.  Any advice?  Can this even be done?  They have many sales districts.
I appreciate any help that I can get on this one.
Thank you so much in advance!

I think you are asking the question in wrong forum inside SCN, this is SAP business warehouse forum. You will have to shift this question to SAP ERP Logistics - Material management forum.

  • Getting iMovie file to fit on DVD

I have a 1 hr 12 minute iMovie file with video clips, audio, some titles and stills that is 14.47 G total. When I use "create a DVD" I get the "duration is too long"message. I have made sure (following Karl Petersen's advice) to have ONLY the video clips I want in the iMovie file. I exported all clips to Full Quality Quicktime, deleted all clips in the iMovie file, re-imported the .dv files to get my final movie file. I also set the iDVD prefs to Best Quality, not Best performance.
From searching this forum, I read that a movie that is 1 hr 55 minutes should fit on a 4.7 G DVD. The capacity status pane in iDVD shows 4.8 G.
My question (which is obvious already, I'm sure) is what is happening? The file is only 1 hr 12 min long, including everything. My original file after converting from analog to digital was 14.96 G, so it went down a little, to 14.47 G. Seems crazy to split this into 2 DVDs.
When a video is converted from analog to digital, what settings should it have in regards to bit rate, etc? I'm new to this (like lots of people I use an old Formac unit to convert the video VHS tape to digital using NTSC, about 30 frames per second, high performance (but not best), and no compression. Not sure if any of this is helpful or not to my situation.
If there is a comprehensive answer already out there, I'd love to know. thanks for the help!

A few hours sleep and things are starting to look up! Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!
I did check the QT show movie info (thanks Hui!) and it shows the file as being 21.88GB. Yikes! The resolution is 720 x 480, 48kHz, 16 bit, NTSC. When I look at the movie in QT it shows it as being over 2 hours long, with the second hours' worth just being white screen. When I look at the exact same, unadulterated file in iMovie it only shows the 1 hr movie. When the playhead reaches the 1 hour 17 min mark, it skips back to the beginning of the movie. Therefore, I was not able to "see" and thus remove anything in iMovie that corresponds to the white screen time I found when playing the file in QT.
Now, I have no idea why there is and extra hour in QT, or why QT info shows the "true" data size of the file and it doesn't show up anywhere else, but my solution (trying it anyway to see if it works) is to convert the movie again (done), check the data size in QT (turns out to be 14 GB, yeah!) and import it back to a new iMovie file (next thing to do). Hope this works!
QUESTIONS: What resolution do people usually use when converting video to DV? Does the resolution of the original VHS recording impact the resolution when it is converted to DV?
Also, Joel, I would like more info on the AVI Divx for storing raw footage files. I am crammed tight for space and need room to maneuver on my hard drives. Could you point me to a web site with info?
Thanks everyone!! I can breathe again!

  • Need help exporting large file to bitmap format

I have a large file that I need to export to a bitmap format and I am experiencing unknown "IMer" errors, memory and file size limitations.
The file contains only one artboard of size around 8000 pixels by 6000 pixels. I can successfully export as a png at 72dpi giving me a 100% image of my AI file. However I need to export an image at 200% of the AI file. If I export as a png at 144dpi to achieve this I get the following error(s)
"The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error (IMer)" or "Could not complete this operation. The rasterised image exceeded the maximum bounds for savung to the png format"
I have tried exporting as tiff, bmp and jpeg but all give "not enough memory"  or "dimensions out of range" errors.
Does anyone know the limitations with AI for saving large files to bitmap format?
Does anyone have a workaround I could try?

You could try printing to Adobe Postscript files.
This will actually save a .ps file and you can scale it to 200% when doing so. You'll need to "print" for every image change.
Then open a Photoshop document at your final size (16000x12000 pixels) and place or drag the .ps files into the Photoshop document.
I just tested this and it seems to work fine here. But, of course, I don't have your art, so complexity of objects might factor in and I'm not seeing that here.
And you are aware that Photoshop won't allow you to save a png at those dimension either, right? The image is too large for PNG. Perhaps you could explain why you specifically need a png that large???

  • Help needed on Transforming input File to EDI Format

I have an input flat file in one location. Using BizTalk, i need to pick that file from that Recieve location, transform it to EDI format and send it to Destination location.
Now, when I place input file in the "Recieve location", it is being processed and it is erased from recieve location. But I am not able to see the output in the Destination location.
And when i query it in BizTalk Administration console, the state is "Completed" without any errors.
Any guidance/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I have just collated everything and have put it in my words below..Please
let me know your valuable inputs as I am struck in this point from more than a week.
I need to fetch an input flat file (.txt format) from the "Receive location" and I am supposed to transform that to an EDI message X12 format and send it to Destination folder.
I have set up the receive port and send port configurations in the Admin Console, have created the Trading Partners, agreement and other settings.
The problem I am facing : Now, when I place input file in the "Receive location", it is being processed and I am able to pick up the file from the input folder
but I am not able to figure out why the file is not being processed and sent to the destination folder.. (If I query for All In Progress instances, suspended instances or Running instances : I am not getting any results and the below grid is always empty).
And when i query it in Biz-talk Administration console for Tracked instances, the Receive pipeline component's state is "Completed" without any errors.
And I am not using any Orchestration in between..
    Thank you all in advance....

  • Need to get .MOD files (video) working on mac any ideas

    hi all,
I need to play some .MOD files (video) on my mac. Window media player 10 and 11 play the files but mac only has media player 9 - is there any other way i can get these .MOD files to play?

First is that you've posted on the "Windows" side of the Discussions pages but claim to use a Mac.
The .MOD file extension is really MPEG-2 format and you could just change from .MOD to .mpeg to view the file via QuickTime Player.
But MPEG-2 also requires the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20) to be viewed in QuickTime.
If all you wish to do is view the files you can do that for free using VLC Player.

  • Need to get large file sizes down to downloadable sizes-how?

I am using Compressor 4 and have several professional videos I produced with Final Cut Studio in QuickTime/.MOV format using ProRes 442. They are all 720p and of course, all have large file sizes. I needed to convert them so they are compatible with iTunes as well as Apple devices (AppleTV, iPad/iPod/iPhone, etc). They also need to be downloadable in a reasonable time and I of course want to maintain a quality image. Several of the videos are about an hour long, some a little more.
I an unable to get most of these files to be small enough for practical download and still maintain an acceptable quality. For example:
I have one video (QuickTime rendered from FCPS) that runs 54 minutes. 1280x720, ProRess 422, Linear PCM with a Bit rate of 72.662. The best I seem to be able to get out of compressor is to use the setting options for "HD for Apple Devices (5 Mbs)" which gives me a file that's just over 2Gb. Not bad, and the quality is still very good, but the file size is just too big for people to download. I get reports of people getting estimates of 77 hours to download this one file.
I did try using the setting under Video Sharing Services / Large 540p Video Sharing just to see what it would give me, but it really wasn't that much smaller and the quality was noticeably degraded.
I'm confused as to what to do about this. I have downloaded things from iTunes before that are good quality, about an hour and their file sizes are simply bnot this big.
Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you. Grateful for anything you can offer.
    MC

If you're not concerned with precise average bitrate, use h.264 codec, set bitrate to "automatic" and use the quality slider. Be sure to have "keyframes" on "automatic"; every 24 frames or so makes h.264 quite inefficient and is only useful for live-streaming, where you want people to be able to resynchronise as quickly as possible. Having multi-pass enabled might help, but I'm not sure what it does when using constant-quality encoding.
Do a test-encoding of a representative clip of maybe about rwo minutes or so, play with the quality slider and see how far down you can go and still be satisfied with the quality. Using "automatic" bitrate uses as many bits to encode each frame as is necessary to get the required quality, and file sizes will vary depending on the type of material. Complex textures and high motion will use more bits, still frames and slow pans will use very little.
A light chroma-channel denoising may help improve perceived quality, as may very light sharpening in case you scaled down the material.
If you're still not happy with the bitrate vs. quality tradeoff, try reducing the resolution, but generally you should get 720p down to around 2.5 to 3.0 Mbps with adequate quality.
On the other hand, If someone needs 77 hours to download 2 GB, they have another problem anyway. That sounds like a 56k modem connection. What's he doing trying to download HD content anyway?

  • I want to get the file in ANSI format.. Any idea?

    Hi all,
I am doing a file to file bypass scenario .My client has demanded that the output file should be in ANSI format.
I checked the <b>file.encoding</b> option in sap-help but ANSI is not available can u suggest that what encoding type i must use.
I used ISO-8859-1 as well. But client rejected this file saying that ANSI characters not present in ISO-8859-1
Any one pls throw some light on this how to acheive.

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for those links.. I have few doubts .. please suggest me.
Based on those links and as per my thinking, now i have to follow below steps in File Module .
    Processing sequence:
    <b>Module Name :</b> AF_Modules/StrictXml2PlainBean
    <b>Type :</b> Local Enterprise Bean
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 0
    <b>Module Name :</b> AF_Modules/StrictXml2PlainBean
    <b>Type :</b> Local Enterprise Bean
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 1
    Module Configuration :
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 0
<b>Parameter Name :</b> singleRecordType (Since it is Bypass scenario,i want the entire file to have endseparator as /r/n.)
<b>Parameter value: </b> What i need to mention i this field??
    <b>ModuleKey :</b> 1
    <b>Parameter Name :</b> Convert
    <b>Parameter value:</b>  No value ??
In the links, i found these 3 parameters stating as
Enter the parameter convert. It can have the following values:
    &#9679;     none - no conversion
&#9679;     CRLFtoLF - conversion from Microsoft Windows CRLF to Unix LF
&#9679;     No value or another value - conversion from Unix LF to Microsoft Windows CRLF
So now i want the file to be in (CRLF).SO i need to mention "No value" here??
Please suggest me stefan if iam thinking in correct way.

  • Need to get the file name at the time of polling

    Hi...
I am transferring the data from csv file to database.
I put the file in a directory. File adapter will read that file for every 2 minutes. I have a column name in database to which I need to map the incoming file name.
Here my requirement is: how can I get the name of the csv file dynamically at the time of polling, so that I can map the file name to corresponding column name in database. Is there any special mapper function in Jdeveloper component palette to do it or can we do some thing with the file adapter to achieve this.
Thank you very much...any help is appreciated.

This is a very simple task in JDeveloper 11g, file adapters are linked to the receive activity, here there is a tab called Properties which you can use to extract the file name. Please follow the steps below:
    1. Create a Simple Type variable of string type, call it fileName_var or any name you wish.
    2. Open the Receive activity in your bpel project.
    3. Scroll down to jca.file.FileName and double click on the value column, click on the browse button (...), select Variable, then click the search icon
    4. Locate your recently created variable
    5. Now when your project runs it will assign the file name to this variable, you can use this same approach also to pull the directory, file size, etc.
Please note, that you may see a warning little icon on your project saying variable is not initialized, this is perfectly ok and it does not represent any issues when deploying the project.
    Hope this helps.

  • Reinstalled iTunes and need to get music files back on

    Hi Everybody.
Basically, I had to reinstall my iTunes software after my ipod broke and they gave me a new one. I am running iTunes 4 I think, because for some reason it is the only on that wants to work on our computer.
The new iPod is working fine, and so is iTunes, but our music files didn't come back up automatically and I need some advice for getting them back on itunes. I've played with it a bit, but I didn't want to go clicking and dragging a bunch of folders to where they might not belong.
Thanks, if you can offer me any help it will be much appreciated. Sean

However, all signs point to "I erased all my itunes music files."
    Bummer
is there anything else to try or is my music gone?
Do you still have all or most or some of your music on the iPod? If so:
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
    PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:
