Need to get sound to my digital tv

I have a new digital TV and it is connected to my computer with a HDMI cable. I get no sound to my TV. My video card has a suplied cable that should connect to a SPDIF output on my motherboard that has two wires with seperate connectors. One is a positi've and one is a ground wire. My Motherboard needs a SPDIF out module ($35+) so I have been looking for a way to connect my video card directly to the Soundblaster Li've card . Can I do this and which pins do I hook it up to and where are they?
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. And thanks in advance.
Jim

&? jtpcamp,
I don't have a direct answer for you because there is some danger in using connections on the soundcard in a way that was not intended. However, this and this offer some info and otherwise might get you started. Refer to the manual for your soundcard for the corresponding jacks (the manual should be on your installation CD). While these two threads suggest a possible solution for you, inadvertantly reversing connection polarity could damage your soundcard and computer. Therefore, proceed with caution and at your own risk.

• I need help getting sound to come out of my TV when using HDMI. Any solutions?

I'm able to pull up my picture when connecting my HDMI cable to my Macbook pro...however I can't get the sound to come out of my Toshiba TV.  When I go under system preferences, then sound and select my Toshiba TV as an option.  It says it has no output controls.  I fiddled with my sound setting in my TV and stil no luck.   Does anyone know any solutions for this problem.  Help is greatly appreciated.

Hey jbarwins
Check to make sure that you are up to date on your computer. Another recommendation would be to try a different cable and also reset the NVRAM on your computer.

• I need to get sound events from sounds embedded in a MovieClip

I'm working on a SoundManager class for a game development
platform. Unfortunately, I can't leverage the Sound class because
the requirements are that the sounds for an application would be
embedded in individual MovieClip objects and set to stream as the
clip plays.
The idea is that this would allow third-party developers to
make simple edits to the sounds by using the envelope controls for
the embedded sounds. I can manually fire an event when the sound
finishes by calling a custom method in the last frame of the movie
clip, however, this is not completely accurate and it makes it
impossible to seamlessly loop sounds.
Now, the Flash player must be aware that the sound has
finished playing. I presume that sounds embedded in the IDE are
handled by the Sound class in some way. Is there any way at all
that I can expose an event when the embedded sound finishes
playing?
I'd really prefer to use another approach, and just attach
sound files from a Library or from external files, but I don't have
a choice in this particular case. This is the way the application
has to work.
I will probably have to give up on the precision I want in
order to complete this job on time, but I refuse to believe that
what I'm trying to do is impossible. I would appreciate any help
anyone can give me.

device do I need? I have an Apogee Mini Me device with spdif out but it's not the same kontakt.

Ok, thank's!
I own one of these:http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/8pre/optical.html
It has 8 adat (optical) outs, do you know if it will work with all 8 or just 2 channels, or at all
since even if it's optical it is adat, well I'm a little confused about this.
The units mensioned with the cable was mostly portabel players.

Not when they developed Firewire! 8^)
Your pro should have a FW 800 port, and you can get adapters to the 4pin firewire cable.

• Need help getting my surround sound to work when watching TV

I recently got the Samsung Blueray Home Theatre system and it works fine while watching movies, but I can't seem to get the system to work while watching regular tv?  Any ideas?

In order to get sound while you are watching braodcast tv or satalite you have to route the sound to your receiver some how. If you use a external source for watching tv, like a digital cable box or satalite receiver you will have to run the sound to your receiver from that component. A digital connection would be best so your receiver can decode dolby digital if its available for the program you are watching. And optical cable, digital coax (looks like an RCA cable) or HDMI if your components utilize it. For the HDMI you would need to have an HDMI out on the cable/satalite box and a HDMI input on the stereo receiver.
If your not using a cable or satalite box then you need to run an optical cable from the optical out of your tv to an optical input on the receiver.
Without knowing exactly what components you are using its hard to say which would be the best way to hook it up.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your phone doesn't do mirroring, only the 4S will do that. It only does basic AirPlay.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

• I cannot get sound through my laptop speakers ever since I used a digital speaker

I cannot get sound through my laptop speakers ever since I used an external digital speaker.  Cannot seem to switch back to lap top speakers in my SYSTEM PREFERENCES...only showing DIGITAL out put option

Hi there Lutostan,
It sounds like you have disconnected the digital audio speakers from your MacBook Pro but all you have available in your audio settings. Take a look at this info from the following article named:
Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs
If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:
Confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.
If you do not see a red light, proceed to step 5.
If the issues persist, contact Apple support for further troubleshooting assistance.

• KDL 55W800C Android TV apps not getting 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound

Just bought KDL-55W800C Android TV few days ago. Everything is great except the DD 5.1 surround. I am using optical audio out to a STR-KS360 receiver. I get 5.1 with Telus Cisco CIS430 PVR connected to TV no problem. But when I tried Netflix, Play Movies and USB test MP4 on the TV. They are coming through as 2.0 only. BD connected to TV also only come through as 2.0 only while BD connected to receiver gives 5.1. Is this a known problem? There seem to be similar threads on other models. E.g. https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ultra-HD-TV/XBR-75X850C-Netflix-Amazon-dolby-digital-5-1-channel-support/m-p/509054/highlight/true#M4168

That sounds more logical, however, Apple and Netflix are pointing at each other.
The player needs to be compatible with Dolby Digital Plus, so that would ultimately put the responsibility on Apple. However, DDP for streaming 5.1 surround sound from the Internet is relatively new, so it doesn't surprise me that the ATV doesn't currently support it, but I would expect Apple to release a software update for it at some point.

• Connecting apple tv2 to a projector, but need to use optical from apple tv to connect to something, to get sound.. What do I buy

Ive got an apple tv, and a new hd projecter. I've now got a huge lovely picture on the wall, but I've zero sound.... The projector has no output for sound, and is conected by hdmi...which leaves me with one option. Using the optical out from apple tv, now i have no idea.  Will this optical output work when hdmi is sending sound to projector ?  What I need is the best option to use optical out.. I would have prefered a simple phono out, and then I can plug into a big active speaker im using in the room, I owne nothing with optical connections... So what do buy ?  Ric

Ok,  I will ask the question in another way... My apple tv has one hdmi, and it goes to my hd projecter.. But projecter has no speakers, and as a result I've no sound at the moment. I am looking for a clear direction to go in, to solve lack the of any sound.. My only option seems to be, using the optical out from the apple tv.. I don't have  any equipment with this conecter. And I've never used optical before..   If i buy an, optical to twin phono converter and then I can plug into a large powered speaker I've got in my living room. And I will have big sound easily..?? Do I have any other reasonable options for optical enabled speakers, or AirPlay speakers or something simple I'm not aware of that will give me sound easily.. I don't want a messy 5:1 system, my house is very tidy, and I want to keep it that way. .  Only having this optical out is frustrating, and I need to get my head round the options I have.   Anyone understand from experience how to use the optical apple tv out.  Also, not  using anything but apple tv, no dvds, or tv , just apple tv and my ipad.. Is very quiet in my home right now though.  Ric
