Need to ID G4 part:socket came off logic board (blue & white power cable

In the course of disassembling a G4 iBook the socket for the blue & white power cable wiring harness broke off the logic board.
I am trying to learn the correct desciption of this part so I can find a replacement. The wires on the bottom which were soldered to the board broke off.
Even after it was broken off, and I had leverage, I had to use two pairs of pliers to get the plug out of this socket. It should never have been assembled so tightly.

Spud-- I'm going to use conductive epoxy; I don't have access to anyone with micro soldering skills.
re previous posts -- unfortunately the Search logic is not precise enough to ask about this particular connector. Any search containing "logic board" gets swamped with the famous failure issue.
I went to an electronics specialty store and they didn't have any connectors of that style, let alone size. I'd like to replace the socket so I can use the existing plug on the blue & white wire.
Last night I spend some hours surfing "connector" etc and didn't see any photos that matched it on any distributor/manufacturer sites. So I'm still wondering what the correct descriptive word is, as used in the trade.
My "backup" iBook G3/Panther is taking about 30 seconds to load an average web page though. Spinner locks it up while loading one at a time. Wonder if installing Tiger and a newer Safari would help? I just got a chip to max out the memory, still have to install it.
For those who haven't seen it, the plug is a solid rectangle with two holes; the socket has a rectangular single cavity with two prongs sticking up from the bottom. TINY, THIN prongs.
The socket bottom has no leads on it (anymore). They are broken off flush with the plastic on the bottom. I was thinking of using a dental burr to grind into them, creating a small cavity, and then using conductive epoxy. I don't know if the bottom plastic is thick enough; if I go too far then it would ruin the prongs sticking up in the cavity.
But I could epoxy a wire stub, as long as possible to still fit into the space above the board & below the top of the shield/case. Then epoxy each wire to the pad on the board. The pads are about 1 mm x 2 mm or less, and worse, the gap between them is under 1mm wide. I'll have to goop some insulating silicone putty in that gap before putting tiny dabs of epoxy on the pads.
I bought some larger socket/plugs at the store, the socket part has no leads in it though. These sockets are they type that use the wire lead of the style shown in your photo of the repaired plug. I also got some different ones with flat prongs.
I'd like to move the connection point from the board to under the case top -- the blue & white wire runs all the way from the other side of the case. I just need a thin enough connector. Worst case -- leave as much slack wire length as possible and solder a Western Union splice.
If I can epoxy leads to the board without shorting between the pads I can figure something out. Need to carefully estimate the space available. Or as you say, just make some prongs.
You say #26 is the right wire gauge -- that's vital data. I don't want to undersize the power leads !
I'm also going to paint non-conductive coating on the board around the pad area, so I can slop the epoxy without worrying about shorting a trace. I've had to do some scraping to remove the gummy gluey stuff -- I presume its silicone adhesive of some kind.
There is some sort of test connection right above this area, with two little prongs sticking up. Marked "J1." The traces look like they go to the socket. I wonder if they use that to use alligator clips to power up the board during assembly testing? That location is much, much larger than the pads for the socket.

• Is there anyway to fix a single socket from a logic board?

Hi,
recently I replaced the airport card on my macbook pro 13" . While doing so, the connector which is attached to the airport ribbon cable came off and stayed connected to the airport socket on the logic board. The mac wouldnt turn on at all for i believe the thing was causing a electric instability of some sort.. I had to remove the connector from the socket manually by tearing it appart in pieces and trying to leave the socket as clean as possible... however... i believe i may have damaged the socket itself...good news is that the mac turns on again!!! (no wifi though )
The red circles show the parts that are involved in this problem... the socket still has some remains of the connector and I am afraid to keep trying to remove them... I am not quite sure whether i have damaged the scoket itself or not.. there is no way to test this as i cant really connect a new ribbon cable and test... the remains of the old connector are still there as stated... Is there anyway to fix the socket alone without buying a brand new logic board (if damaged)? Do people really do this or do they just replace the entire logic board? Thanks.

If you rolled back time 20+ years, the answer is yes.
Having soldered things for several years and repaired (rather parts replacement mostly) laptops for years...
the answer is no.
soldering micro-connectors is A: absurdly difficult, and B: too easy to burn out neighboring connectors and components.
Is anyone doing it today? No.    everything now is 1. remove bad  2. toss bad  3. insert new.
You nor I have the microscopic or robotic skills for such level of soldering/ removal and new component sub-part attachment.

• Can't recognise this part that came off during dusting

Hi All,
I recently dust cleaned my mac book pro 15' (A1286 Model) with air spay because the fans were jammed. Now things are great but when I finished closing the shell I found a little plastic cap about 1/2 inch with 4 holes. I am not sure it's part of the computer. I attach a photo of it. Can somebody recognise it? Is it important? Do I need it?
Thank you in advance.

Looks as if it's a coat button - not part of your MacBook Pro!
I've been in and out of mine and never found a button in it...

• What software do i need to acquire image from a camera and 1407 board

I need to acquire an image and measure thickness of a needle. I have labview 6.0.2 and have installed NI-IMAQ 2.5.1. What other software do i need to install? Do i need Advanced IMAQ Vision?

With NI-IMAQ (now up to version 2.6) you are able to acquire, display, and save images. With IMAQ Vision, you'll be able to very accurately measure the thickness of the needle. If you attach an image to this post, I should be able to tell you just how accurate IMAQ Vison can be. You can find out more about IMAQ Vision (which is a component of the Vision Development Module for LabVIEW) here, http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=2881〈=US
The other route (aka, the free one) is to convert the image into a 2D array of pixel values. From this array, you may be able to measure the thickness of the needed by writing your own algorithm. It most likely won't be as precise as the IMAQ Vision tools (which give you real world measurements down to the 0.1 pixels).
The Vision Development Module will work with LabVIEW 6i, so there is no requirement to upgrade to LabVIEW 7 Express. But in case you're curious, the new LabVIEW is really something. www.ni.com/labview is the place for more info.

• HT201274 I went to General Reset Erase All Content & Settings - and now nothing works. I tried the advice on this forum, i.e., turn the phone off, connect to the white apple cable while pressing the home key. Still not working. What do I do?

After i dod the above my ipone still does not work. It seems like all settings are gone. I tried the advice on one of the forums here which was turn the phone off, connect to the cable to the computer and not the phone, press the home button continously and connect the cable. Itunes at this point identified the phone and prompted to restore settings. It seemed to be doing something but now once I tried turning it on, its still not working.

start iTunes,
plug in your USB cable
switch off your iPhone
press holding home button(the round button in front of the Phone)
plug it on to the USB cable
keep holding the button
till iTunes says it found a iPhone in recovery mode
then click restore as a NEW iPhone
then sync!?

• Power socket on logic board

I've just put a new optical drive in a 12" 1ghz Powerbook and in the process have had a bit of a mishap...the power socket came undone from the logic board. This is the bit that connects the cable that runs from the power button to the logic board. The connector didn't come out of the socket, the whole socket came off. Seems like a large problem...any ideas what the best coarse of action is? Hopefully don't have to replace the entire logic board. Good repair places in the UK would also be welcome.
any help will be appreciated.

hi david,
I just found out today that it's been repaired. Basically, there was no way I was going to try and fix it, so I brought it in to one shop that said "nope, gotta replace the logic board," but i didn't trust them, and so i sent it off to another repair place, who fixed it today--tested, all back in action.
BIG sigh of relief. £80 instead of around £400.
So basically, it depends on how bad the board was damaged when the connector came off. I happened to get lucky (after persevering with a second opinion!)
If you find a GOOD repair house, not a lazy one that just goes for the easy and expensive fix, then you may be in luck. I'm in the UK, and I can HIGHLY recommend VIS Mac Parts as a repair house.
http://www.applemacparts.com/
In fact, nearly everyone I spoke to along the way said it would require a new logicboard, so: don't listen to them, and find someone who has the knowhow (and honesty) to repair it.
hope this helps & best of luck!!!

• Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz Logic Board Part Number

Hi all,
I have been searching for a few hours trying to find the part number for the logic board one of my MBPs.  I, unfortunately, have the Mid-2010 15" MBP with the bad GPU that results in endless kernel panics.  (I also had the first Pentium chip, the pentium 60 with the floating point error in 1995 too).  I upgraded the MBP to the 2.8 GHz, core i7 (2 core) processor when I ordered it in 2010.
Anyway, the apple tech guide exploded view does not show the part number for the 2.8 GHz.  It only shows the part numbers for the other 3 configurations - 2.4, 2.53 and 2.66.  I took the cover and discovered my my EEE code is "QAG".
I have just started trying to figure this issue out (too much time has passed and Apple will charge me to fix).  I want to try and find a replacement logic board and do it myself.   Does anyone have an idea what my part number is for the logic board?  None of the sites I searched have a 2.8 GHz board listed just 2.66.
An alternative question - In my PC building days, some motherboards were compatible with multiple speeds of main processors.  My computer model number
MC373LL/A
is the same as the 2.66GHz model.  Does the 2.66 GHz logic board support the 2.8 core i7 too?  I don't want to screw up and order the wrong part.
OSX Yosemite is installed.
Thanks,
Tony

• Imac G5 needs new logic board

Hi,
My imac G5 was revving up quite a bit and acted like I was downloading something all the time. I thought it might just need the fans to be cleaned but I took it into the genius bar and was told that they guy "thinks" that I need a new logic board but isn't positive and would I like to look at the new imacs. ( I love looking at the new imacs but it's not in my budget). He said it would cost close to $800.00 to repair my imac. I edit video on it and it's also become the family computer. Any suggestions? Do I put the money into replacing the logic board? Do I put money into expanding the memory on my macbook pro that only has 2 gb of memory?

Has it been shutting down unexpectedly?
There was a repair extension program for some of these iMacs which suffered from defective capacitors on the Logic Board and the Power Supply. It's been closed since Dec. 08, but I've heard of people appealing to Apple Customer Service anyway and getting the repairs covered. First you should open the computer and determine if the capacitors on the Logic Board are swelling or leaking at all. If so, you might be able to convince Apple to do the repairs. 1-800-275-2273. If at first you get turned down, ask to speak to a higher level rep.
Tell them how unfair you think it is that those who had the problem before the program closed were covered, and it was just your bad luck that your computer lasted a bit longer. You can also say that had you opened it up earlier, you probably would have seen the bad capacitor issue developing before the program closed. They are numerous little cylinders about 3/4 inch tall. The tops should be perfectly flat. No brownish gunk. Inspect it very carefully. You won't be able to look inside the Power Supply easily, though. If your iMac is not an iSight, it's very easy to open up. Just three screws at the bottom. Have a look here for illustrated instructions for your model. If it is an iSight, probably best not to try; a bit too complicated. Or you might just call the repair service and ask exactly why they thought it needed a new Logic Board. Did they see bad capacitors?

• What to do with a hardware malfunction Logic board and no parts manufactured anymore?

Anyone having trouble with Hardware replacement due to stop of manufacturing?
I went to the one and only Apple Store in Hong Kong today and after they have checked my Macbook Pro which I bought in 2007. They said my logic board is malfunctioning and there are no spare parts anymore, also there will be no parts manufactured of the Logic board for my Macbook Pro.
So due to Apple's policy I am doomed to buy a new lap top as there is simply no parts to fix this Hardware problem
What can I do? I expect to have bought a good product but eventually due to a Hardware problem I am stuck and FORCED to buy a new lap top. I really feel up set as I don't have any options offered besides a Apple Care plan!! But that's useless when I don't have a good running Apple Macbook right ?

I had the exact same problem with the same Macbook Pro. It was a known issue with the video card attached to Apple's logic board. Apple quietly extended the warranty to a total of 4 years. Mine died at 4-1/2 years (about 3 months ago). The Apple store, at that time could still get a logic board, but it was over $1,000.00. I didn't think it was worth sinking that kind on money into a 5 year old computer. So, I had them remove the HDD and I installed it in an enclosure and connected it to an iMac in my office and I boot from it. Now that the new MBP's are out, I'll purchase a new computer.
Once you are getting to the 5 year mark, you can expect to have to replace your computer.   If you really want to try a repair, try OWC.com for a refurbished logic board. I didn't see one for my model when I last checked though.

• I dropped my ipod5 on a stone table (really hard) and the color (little part) came off! It's not a big problem but I just got it not long time ago. Can Apple repaire it? Will it be free? P.s. That part it's like 1mmX1mm not big, but I just want to know.

Like I say I'm the title... A little part "colour" on my iPod5 came off after I dropped my iPod on a stone table.
I just want to know that can Apple repair it or it doesn't count on the guarantee? It's not a big problem but I just got it few month ago...It's brand new! Do that's why I'm curious..:) and if they can repair... Will it gonna be free?

When you get your iPod repaired / replaced... do yourself a favor, spend a few more bucks and but a case, like a Lifeproof or Griffin Survivor. Both cover the entire iPod and offer protection against drops and falls, weather, sand, dust, etc. and will at least minimize if not prevent damage to your iPod.  Good luck.

• Accidnetly dropped my mac and the corner sort of came off the hinge, pic

Hey, alright so last night i was sitting on my bed and a spider fell on me and of course i jumped to find the spider, my laptop slid off of my lap and fell onto my floor. It still works but the right corner sort of came off of the hinge a little bit. Whenever i open it it sort of rubs against the keyboard part of the laptop causing it to be harder to open, not impossible i can open it but i can feel the tension. So i was wondering if this was self fixable, i should just deal with it or take it in. How much would you estimate it costing? Here is the picture=

Your iPhone has been damaged and will need to be taken or sent to Apple for service. If you have AppleCare+ coverage, you will pay only the "deductible"; check the terms for your plan. In most cases it's US $79. If you do not have AppleCare+ on your iPhone, Apple now will replace screens on the iPhone 5, at least in the US, for US $149. Availabllity of repair services may vary by country and by Apple Store, so call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store and ask for information. If Apple will not offer screen replacement service at an Apple Store in your area or they determine that there is additional damage, they will replace the entire iPhone. See:
http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/
There are independent iPhone repair services that may be able to do the repair for less than Apple's out-of-warranty charge. Do a web search for "iPhone repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPhone serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty and support from Apple will be voided.
Regards.

I bought a new  Macbook pro in 02/26/2013 from Apple Canadian Ices -003.  Than I could not use it, because  my cursor uncontrollably  was jumping around the screen, I was  resumed my trackpad become bulging, Than on11/25/ 2013 they changed my trackpad for free, because was manufactoring defect,  but not the bulging battery.  They said that is do not needed.  Since that my cursor is quiet often quivering, I think my Macbook has serious  manufacturing defect. But they said no, during a year period I went to  the genius bar at least 15 times, with this and similar problems.   I went there yesterday, with different problems, and they said one of the screws  came off from my   truck pad, therefore they need to fix it and change it.  I said: -  What,  how, what  is the real problem?  A screw does not comes off just like that?  They will change my trackpad again, but not the battery. They said  has to rebuild the operation system, I'm  saving all of my data right now! I would like to exchange the battery too, or maybe get a new Macbook. My Macbook is 2010 China model. How long I would have this trackpad  problem? What are you suggesting?

If it's a 2010 as you say towards the end of your post, it's out of warranty. The battery isn't covered in that case. Why don't you just buy a new battery if that's your concern? If it's a 2013 as you say up at the top, it shouldn't have a bulging battery. How do you know it does? If it really does, ask for the store manager and explain the problem.
