Need to import playlists from iPod to iTunes

My computer was acting up the other day and I closed out of iTunes improperly. When I oped it up the next day all of my play lists were missing. And there is no music or movies in my library. I would rather not have to import all my music and videos back in and create new play lists. So is there any way I can import the play lists into iTunes? Or is there anything else I can do? I tried drag and drop into the play list section but it wouldn't let me. Please help.

Use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Need to Import songs from Ipod to Itunes

Hey, so yeah my comp fried itself the other day [hard disk corrupt files issues] and i managed to get it fixed, with a new copy of windows installed. problem is i didnt wipe the hard disk [because many files are ones id rather not lose] and so the other account which was on 'dont share my files' [windows is ******** that way] is completely unaccessable. This means i lose access to documents, settings, and everything on the desktop / user-related files. They're still on my computer, but completely unaccessable , and windows pretends they arent there, because im a 'different user' now. Itunes was part of that. along with my songs folder. So i reinstall itunes, and the ipod registers, though saying it is registered to another itunes library, and i can change it to this one [if i want to wipe all my songs for the nothing that the current library has in it].
So clearly what i need to do is import songs from the ipod to the itunes library that i have now. This option doesnt seem to exist, ive been looking for it for some time. Any ideas?

Welcome to discussions! See the instructions from MacMuse on the following link. Once you have recovered your music, I would strongly suggest you institute some type of regualr backup program for your music library.

  • Problem importing playlist from Ipod

My computer crashed so I had to reload everything back on. I don't want to lose everything I have on the Ipod, does anyone know how to export the playlist from the Ipod to my PC? I would really appriciate anyones help with this. Thanks!!!

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Import playlist from ipod to pc

My old PC died but I had a back-up of all my iTunes music. I've re-installed iTunes on my new PC and all my music is there - perfect! However, none of my playlists are showing and it seems I don't have a back up of my iTunes files or preferences. Is there a way of importing just the playlists from my iPod Nano to my new W7 PC? Thanks .....

If that doesn't work, you'll need the help of thid party software to assist with this task.  Here is one good option.

  • Import Playlist from IPod

On my Windows laptop, I'd like to import/copy a playlist from my iPod into my iTunes Library.
ITunes won't let me simply drag the playlist into the library. I'm using Version 6.x of iTunes.
iTunes Help recommended exporting to XML (from the other PC) and importing the XML on this PC. iTunes puked when I tried that. This should be really simple, it's just an XML file...and all the music is located on the local hard drive.
    Any ideas?

I found an app for Mac that does what you want. I emailed the guy to ask if he knows of anything similar for windows.
It is a Mac app, but it says you can use windows formatted iPods with it. So if you have a friend with a Mac, and forty bucks to spend, then go here:
    http://www.crispsofties.com/i.i/index.html
If you don't know anybody that owns a Mac, you should just go a head and buy one.
I'll let you know what he says.

  • Transfer playlists from ipod to itunes on pc

This has probably been covered, I don't know, maybe a million times, BUT I had to reinstall my system software. Was able to back up music files on a friends server and they are now in itunes. The playlists did not transfer. Tons of man hours put into them. I have not synced my ipod since this occurred and it has all the playlists. I feel that if I sync it all will be lost. This seems like a really obvious and easy fix, like dragging a file or something. Laptop using XP pro. Any help would would be greatly appreciated and rewarded with kharmic bliss. Thanks!

If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • I DESPERATLY NEED HELP TRANSFERING SONGS FROM IPOD TO ITUNES LIBRARY

hi my computer crashed downstairs and i need help moving all my songs from my ipod to my itunes library, on the other computer...will someone please help me?

    Hello Markatkis,
Make sure your not connecting it to more than one PC. A new iPOd is set to "Auto Update" by default. With this setting all you do is plug the iPOd into the PC and iTUnes automaticly opens, loads all the songs it has listed in iTunes to the iPod, and after its done, ejects the iPOd.
If you connect it to another PC tho with iTUnes on it you usually get a promtp that in short says "iPOd library linked to another PC, do you want to link to this one" if you click yes, it wipes the iPOd clean and loads only whats on that PC.
Since your new to all of this a great place for you may be the "iPod 101" site. It will show you all the bacis ropes of using your iPOd, using iTUnes, and using them both together. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/

  • Can't import library from iPod to iTunes

I was having troubles with my laptop so I was forced to re-load the entire operating system, deleting everything previously on my computer. Now, I'm unable to load all of my songs from my iPod into my new iTunes library. The only ones it is allowing me to import are songs that were purchased through the iTunes store. This is a pain because now I'm unable to listen to music on my computer. Can anyone help?

Go get some 3rd-party software like Yamipod, Copypod, etc.
    Just google "iPod restore"
As you've found out, iTunes will only restore purchased music.
I can't recommend any certain program, since I haven't had to do this.

  • How to activate or import playlists from newly moved iTunes library on an external hard drive?

I have just moved my whole iTunes library from my notebook to an external HDD, due to space constraints. I followed the Apple steps to do so, and finally got all my songs and the rest to appear in the player.
However, my custom playlists do not appear in the playes. All my devices have a combination of various playlists loaded onto them. I have also just got the iPhone 5s and want to load similar playlists onto the new phone.....but my playlists are missing....
This will take me days to recreate........any suggestions please?  (i have already removed the iTunes directory from the laptop   )
    Thx

Sorry, by mapped i meant what you described above...changing my designated media folder to the one on the new EHD.
I did try holding in the option/alt key as suggested by apple elsewhere in the forum but only opened the a window indicating where the shortcut file is located i.e. the iTunes.exe properties window. I tried the shift key too as well as several other but could not get the window asking me to choose a library.
Tried to copy a screen grab in but it doesnt allow me to.
When i opened the player after moving the folder there was nothing in my libraries except for a few purchesed songs and movies saved on icloud. I got my music in by going to file>add folder, and selected the music folder on the new drive. This "imported" my music to the player.
I must mention also i am using Win8 and the latest version of iTunes, but i live is South Africa and ive noticed my laptop keyboard keys/functions on the HP are different from previous computers i have used.
Where should the playlst files reside when using an EHD? Still on the main computer or on the new EHD?
