Need to install Linux keeping the windows 8 os .

Hello,  I have a HP notebook laptop running windows 8 in it. My laptop is covered under warranty for another 18 months. I need to install another OS like Ubuntu in my PC in order to run some softwares as a part of my acads. But I also need Windows 8 for my general usage. I read somewhere that I will lose my HP warranty if I boot my system or try to install another OS than what came with the PC.  Is this true? Having warranty for my laptop is as important as having dual OS in my PC. Is there a way to install another OS on the current Windows without endangering my warranty? Also, I need Ubuntu only for this semester, so if I install it now will I be able to remove that later again keeping my warranty safe? I am unable to ask any of my friends or seniors regarding this because many of them know how install and uninstall OS but no one is assuring me regarding my warranty. Hope to find a solution here.

again people respond with the wrong help info. You simply need the PARAGON NTFS DRIVER FOR MAC. gives you full read and write support from your mac side to your bootcsamp side. You will always be able to read your mac side contents from your bootcamp side and also copy from mac to bootcamp while in windows mode. But buy the paragon ntfs $20 driver and you will be fine. Ive had it for years without any problems. works perfectly and easily. It also allows you to verify and repair your bootcamp partition from within disk utility on your mac side.

  • I need to install Linux on my windows xp and then Oracle on Linux OS.

I like to know how I can install Linux OS on my home computer which has Windows XP. Next thing like to do is to install Oracle 9i or 10 g on to Linux operating system. Please let me know what steps are required to accomplished this task.
    Thanks

If you want to keep your XP installation then:
    1. Use gparted (GNU partition editor) live CD to create a new partition on your hard disk.
    2. Install linux on the new partition.
    3. The best way to load Linux is to use your default boot loader which is NTLDR, in order to activate your Linux boot loader - grub or lilo.
    4. Install Oracle on Linux.
You should read installation guides which can be easily found with a search engine. Make sure that you do every step only after you are familiar with all components and steps.
    Good luck!

  • How To needed for zooming and KEEPING the new close-up format

Hey folks, I have searched but perhaps I am not using the right key words because I cannot get the answer.
I filmed and imported a clip which has the subjects too far away so I worked out how to use the wireframe (thanks for that- I got that much from here) to zoom in and reposition the edited clip.
BUT- when I export it it is back to how it was- with too much wasted space around it.
What do I need to do to KEEP the zoomed in look?
    Thank you for reading.

Thank you Ian, it could well be. Changes only "stick" in the Viewer window, eh? I have looked and the slider in Motion is set to 140 so I assume that is percent. Am exporting as I type. Thank you very much.
For those looking to scale/zoom in to crop the picture (edges):
Select Image+Wireframe so that a white cross (from corner to corner) appears over your clip in Canvas (thank you Tom Wolsky) and then drag its corners in which ever way you would like- making the clip zoom in or out depending on your need. You can also move it around to recenter it if you wish.
PS: I did this in the Viewer (and NOT the Canvas one) and it WORKED fine. However I am told that this is to be done in the one entitled Canvas.

Do I need to install boot camp on Windows 7 as well as on Lion? I already installed it some years ago on Leopard when installing Windows Vista on my Macbook Pro. But now after installing Windows 7, many things in windows doesn't work (sound etc.). I made a clean installation because I needed to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.
Or should I just update bootcamp in Lion? (cause when I search for "boot camp" in Windows 7 there's no result)

Lion's Boot Camp Assistant 4.x should have downloaded Apple drivers as part of also partitioning.
You need Apple drivers. And you then need to add on your own audio driver.
You can run Assistant at any time to download and save a set of drivers.

  • [solved] How to install Linux on the Fujitsu Scaleo Home Server 2205

    Hello!
I am currently thinking about buying a Fujitsu Scaleo Home Server 2205.
The according datasheet can be found here.
The default installation includes Windows Home Server, which is why I have to find a way to install Linux on it (still thinking about which distribution).
But since it doesn't offer regular installation interfaces, I don't know how to do it without having to buy extra equipment.
I thought about just swapping one hard disk, and installing using a regular PC, but figured that this would cause problems with RAID afterwards.
    What do you suggest?
    Thanks!

lucke wrote:That's an interesting point. Do you have any data? I'd guess that pre-P4-era components are consuming less power than most modern ones. My PII with S3 GPU, 2 NICs and one HDD drains 50W in idle, you'd have to go with Atom or Goede or Via offerings to go much lower than that.
I remember having a 300W PSU in my Celeron Mendocino-based PC but I never bothered to measure the actual power consumption at the wall socket. Did you measure that 50W at the socket?
For comparison, TS-109 idles at 14W while Linksys NSLU2 at just 8W.
Of course, 266MHz ARM/32MB RAM in NSLU2 will not be enough for most applications. I am personally really excited about Marvell's Kirkwood platform, Sheevaplug drains only 4W idle / 7W full load (!) and actually sports a 1.2GHz processor / 512MB RAM. If only they made a proper NAS solution using this platform... edit: they did, there's TS-119 but QNAP is traditionally overpriced.

  • Could I reinstall OS X partition keeping the windows boot camp partition?

II have a OS x partition that need reinstall. In the same hd I have a Windows Boot camp partition. The question is, could I reinstall OS X partition without affect the Windows partition?
    Thanks,
    Jorge.

    Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Of course you should backup both.
Q: why do you think OS X needs to be reinstalled or something?
    Disk directory trouble?
Because 3rd party disk utility can do better, as well as maybe clone Mac volume so you can boot and do more repairs.
Or maybe the partition table is shot. Or bad sectors. And bad sectors can require a full format.
In a perfect world, but disk drives and systems aren't

  • Need Help Installing Flash CS4 For Windows

Hi, I have downloaded the two files to install Flash CS4 for Windows from here: http://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-suite/kb/cs4-product-downloads.html
Unfortunately, there is no explanation whatsoever provided regarding how to use the two files, and how to install my product.
I feel like I am missing something obvious here, but can someone please explain.
    Kind regards,
    Finn.

Try uninstalling then run the Adobe Cleaner Tool
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then double click the .exe file again.
What do I do with the .7z file?
Nothing. That's is an archive of files used by the .exe file during the installation process.

  • How do i keep the window visible on top

I'm watching videos and want them to stay 'on top' of all other windows as I switch between applications...like word to explorer to safari to google...I want to keep my video playing visible on 'top' of all other windows.

Firefox itself does not have native features for this. However, you can download and install the PowerMenu application for Windows at [http://www.abstractpath.com/powermenu/]. It installs very quickly.
When you want to watch your video, put it into its own Firefox window (you can do this by right-clicking the video tab and selecting "Move to new window". In this new window, right-click any one of the three Windows buttons at the top right corner (Minimize, Resize, Close). Click "Always On Top" from the menu. This window will now remain on top of all other windows until you uncheck "Always On Top".
    I hope that helps!

  • During Itunes install I keep receiving windows error 2 message

I am trying to install itunes on my new HP Pavilion laptop and I keep getting an error message. Windows error 2 message

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, see if iTunes will launch without the error now.
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
