... but the problem is that, like many jailbroken devices (mine being one I didn't know was jailbroken until the problem occured... though now that I've researched the problem a bit, I realized that I should have taken heed of the "Cydia" app that was just THERE on my app menu... I tried opening it, but it never worked), my iPhone won't exit recovery mode after my attempt to update the phone. I don't remember the firmware that was currently installed on it at the time that I tried to update it, and this wouldn't have been a problem unless I was downgrading (which I wasn't), or if my phone had been jailbroken. The phone was bought used at a local vendor's (it was a good deal). I am certain that the phone is an iPhone 3GS. Right now, what I can see when I plug into iTunes (version 10.4.1) is that it is an iPhone, capacity and software version is "n/a", and its serial number. Using third party programs RecBoot and tinyumbrella yielded no results whatsover. The error number when I try to update to the new software version is 1015 (typical of a careless jailbreaker), and when I enter DFU mode and try to option+restore with firmware 4.1, I get an error 20, but with other devices I have, security getting in the way is never a problem. Instructions for error 20 online said that a "Fixrecover" unix program could help me, but the "Fixrecover" script for iPhone 3GS cannot connect with the phone in DFU mode for some reason, and I had already restarted my computer once to try each of these. If you want any more information or have suggestions for me, I'd appreciate some help.

Sorry, but if the iPhone won't run and has never been synched with your system, there's no way I know of to find out what version of iOS was on it. You can just try the most recent version of iOS which will work on your 3GS, 4.3.5, and see if you can get that to load. There's a direct download link from Apple here:

If that still won't work, then you got an iPhone with either a hardware problem or a firmware totally corrupted by the jailbreak. At that point I'd suggest taking the iPhone back to the vendor and getting your money back.

<Edited by Host>You have an 24" Early 2008 iMac. It came with Mac OS X 10.5, and you would need the disk set for your specific model. It's possible that if you call Apple Support, they can still sell you a set, but that model of iMac is no longer supported by Apple so Support may not be able to help. If not, then you'll need to look to private sellers or companies that sell obsolete software.
You can also call the online Apple Store and purchase a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

I need to know the multitude of reason why my iPhone 5s would prompt me for my Apple ID password.
All I did was place my phone on the charger, I then walked away for 10-15mins and when I came back it was asking me to enter my Apple ID password.
I never gave my password out to anyone ever and hardly anyone knows my email address.
I haven't recently downloaded anything either and I only have one apple device which is my iPhone 5s.
I just want to know really if it could have been because someone was trying to log into my Apple ID?

I have iCloud backup turned on in Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and that means it will automatically do a backup when the phone is plugged in, locked and connected to wi-fi. I had it charging and when I returned it was asking for the password and the prompt did identify that it was requesting it for the iCloud backup (something you may not have noticed if you didn't look closely).
It has never done that before and 2 iPads in my household have not yet done it. All are on iOS 7.1
I have found a report of the same issue by a user of the 7.1 beta and in that case it was happening every day. In my case I entered the password then went to the same area in Settings as above and used the "Backup Now" button to do a backup. I will see tonight when I charge again whether this is going to be an every day problem. -

I installed iOS 6 on my iphone 4g & it stuck on white screen.... i tried to "reboot" by holding the 2 buttons for 10 seconds & it didn't come back to life.... i connected to itunes & tried that route.... said "detected an iphone in recovery mode...must restore...before used w/ itunes...." soooooo i clicked ok & restore..... then about 15 mins later i received error message that said "...cannot be restored...unknown error occurred (37)".... ........ I remembered that I had connected to iCloud a while back so I tried that route..... while I was looking & searching for how to fix & what to do on google....my phone seems to have died... it won't do anything now... not even the white screen...... After I have wait for 30 minutes without do anything, the wifi interface worked.
I don't know if Apple could fix the issue on their site or the reboot of the Iphone solved the problem.
I'm installing IOS 6 on the Iphone 4 of my wife. Let's see if the behaviour is the same.

Check the required specs for the latest version of iTunes and iOS. What kind of Mac computer do you have and what OS does it have on it. Also, what kind of processor do you have, Intel?

There is no issue with iOS7.
The issue is with specific iPhones.
I know multiple people with iPhones that have all upgraded to the latest iOS and none of them have experienced issues with the update across multiple models. Even with the postings here, if you search through them, some go back as far as iOS5 and these Wi-Fi/bluetooth issues occurring which clearly shows it is not the iOS update that is killing the hardware. The issue is with hardware on specific devices that is boarderline working and an update is causing the hardware to fail.
Apple offers an Out of Warranty replacement for a reasonable cost or the user can choose to replace the device with a different one (newer iPhone or some other device).
Regardless, ranting here is pointless and against the terms of use. -

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

First I would try closing the app from multitasking and then launching it again. To do that, double tap the Home button and then swipe up on the app to close it completely. If that does not work, then I would restart your iPhone.

After installing IOS 6 on my iphone 4, why is my camera taking purple pictures?
Immediately after installing IOS 6 on my iphone 4 on 9/22/12, when I attempt to use any of my phone apps, everything is colored in purple tint (see attached image). This includes taking video as well. If I flip the camera to the self facing camera, the purple goes away. This only happens on the front facing camera. I've tried googling this issue and cannot find anyone else complaining about this. Any ideas???
So, now I'm starting to feel like I'm the one and only lucky SOB to have this purple issue. For anyone who reads this, some more detail. Since posting this thread, I did a full reset from my iphone and that did not resolve the issue. Then, last night I did a full system restore from itunes which took about 4 hours and that didn't solve it either.
After all this, I started thinking that perhaps there's something wrong with the lens hardware but yesterday for approx 3 full seconds, the camera was normal then there was a stutter and it went purple again. Sounds like a software issue, so I'm really baffled why a system restore wouldn't cure this. Ugh!
