Need to maintain space for DVD movies.

Hello Everybody,
I have a collection of DVD movies and would like to store the best movies in my computer but since they take up large space I am looking for a good DVD ripper. I know there are many available but would like to take your advice in getting a good one.
Hope you all would provide your suggestions.

Reginald.
We cannot possibly comment on rippers in these forums, as it is all technically illegal - if there is any form of Copy Protection applied, it is forbidden to do this, stupid as it may seem.
There may or may not be a
i sly
piece of
i soft
ware that could help you though - if what you want to do is simply make a backup of
i AnyDVD
that you own.

  • Insufficient space for a movie

My iPad is telling me there is insufficient space for me to download a movie but I just bought more data so I know there is enough! Any ideas as to why it is doing this?

You cannot buy more memory for your ipad at all.
I am guessing that you purchased icloud storage, which has nothing at all to do with the storage capacity of your ipad.
You need to delete some content from the ipad to make more room.

  • Storage space for downloading movies. Please help!

I'm trying to download 3 disney movies to my ipad and upgraded my storage plan to 20GB. I currently have one movie downloaded. In the settings, It says that I have 20.4 GB available, but when I try to download a movie, it says I don't have enough available storage? Please help!!

iCloud storage has no effect on your iPad's physical storage, which cannot be increased.
You need to delete stuff of your iPad to make room for the movie.
Buying iCloud storage will not change this.

  • Hard drive disk space for DVD processing

I have only a few Gb available on my boot drive but I have a large external hard drive with over 300 Gb free space on which I have my DVD projects. I get the error message that my drive does not contain enough space for burn processing. Is there any way to tell iDVD to use the external drive for this, since it has more than enough space?

No -- and by the way, if you only have 'a few Gb available' on your boot drive, you may possible get into problems with the OS. The general rule of thumb is to keep from 10% to 15% of your boot hard drive free for OS use.

  • Need more 'free space' for CIV IV???

I just bought CIV 4 for Mac. It is a single HD disk, and I cannot install it. I get an error message saying I have insufficient free space to play the game. Whuuuut?? This is a brand new computer and I haven't installed anything on it yet but a few pix. Ay adivice??? I love this gam and am worried about all of the patch problems...if I ever get it installed, that is. ALso, I am not a techie, and I hope this isn't just some problem that makes all of you giggle....

Took me a while to figure out what CIV IV was, and to find the specifications and product reviews for the Mac version. Sounds as if you may be confusing storage and memory.
Roughly speaking, everything you mentioned "having" on your PC was stored statically on its Hard Drive Disk, not in its memory. Memory is used for dynamic operations, and for very short term storage. Storage is easy, but data must be accurately stored, and that's where memory comes in.
Memory is used to access, process, check, and distribute the data that is stored on the HDD. The way the game was written, it needs a large amount of memory to put the game's data onto the HDD in large chunks.
That's where you're at - trying to copy your game off of the DVD and onto your HDD. The game is on a DVD, not a CD, so it's holding a lot more data than most of the CDs you've probably dealt with in the past. Since that game appears to be complex, its demands for memory are huge - first to install the game, but then even more so to run the game.
When you open the blue Apple menu (top left) and select "About This Mac," underneath you should see:
"Processor 2 GHz Intel Core2 Duo"
    "Memory ________"
To run your game, it should show either
    "2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM" or
    "3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM"
If you then click the "More Info..." button, System Profiler will open and disclose the details of your computer's configuration. On the left you'll see main categories such as Hardware - Network - Software. Clicking on "Hardware" will show you an "Overview" of the installed hardware.
On the left, one of the subcategories of Hardware is "Memory," which when selected, will show the specifics of your installed memory, also referred to as RAM. Your iMac can hold two separate DIMMs. With details following, they will be listed as:
    DIMM0
    DIMM1
Once you have System Profiler open, to get more information about System Profiler, open the Help menu at the very top of your display and you'll see that you can open System Profiler Help.

  • How much space for DVD-5?

    Hey,
Does anyone know after formatting exactly how much space I have to work with on a DVD-5? I am trying to go his route because the cost per unit is cheaper.
    Chris

Take a look at the what you should be encoding at using this calculator
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
For 1:42 the rate (using 192 AC3 audio) should be about 5.7. Set up Compressor with those settings and send the footage from Final Cut to Compressor and bring the resulting m2v and AC3 files into DVD SP. If you are bringing a .mov in the audio is non-compressed and takes up more room and if the default encoding settings for the project are too high, 1:42 can go over a DVD 5 fairly easily. Do not recall what the default is right now, but it is going to be close.
You can try changing preferences for the project, but I do not find it as reliable.

  • Space for HD Movie

How much space would a regular iTunes HD movie use up in apple tv?

But all other videos (other than HD rentals) are encoded so that they will work with the ipod/iphone and are capped at around 1.7 Mbps, HD rentals don't have that restriction and so the person encoding them is able (if they want-not that I know they do, but I would) to increase the bitrate for higher quality on shorter movies.

  • Need more HD space for Time Machine

I'm running out of space on my external drive that I use for TM, can I go in and manually delete old backups to make more room? Would doing this then screw up TM?

TM should start automatically delete old backups to make room for new ones when it runs out of space. it will warn you about it the first time it needs to do it if you have the appropriate box checked in TM system preferences->options. DO NOT delete old TM backups from finder. you can delete old backups from TM interface but you shouldn't have to do it.

  • I don't have enough space for my movie.but it shoes i have it on the list..so how to i take it off, i don't have enough space for my movie.but it shoes i have it on the list..so how to i take it off

If you were manually managing your iPhone then yes, you need to manually transfer your apps. If you were regularly syncing and arranging your apps on your computer (which is easier) then yes a sync will not disturb anything. You do have to go to file and transfer apps and music if you are not autosyncing. Perhaps you should take the time to read the manual.
Where did I say that "Apple products don't have issues and don't crash..." Please point this out to me. My phone has had to be reset, I've had to turn it off and back on to resynch with the GSM network (this predates my iPhones, had to do the same thing with my Treo), I've had issues with other products and versions of the phone.
But in your case you stated that your computer did not match your phone and I've seen this happen before. I do say that some people don't take responsibility for their own actions and want to blame others. So gut it out, download your apps again if you lost any (doesn't cost anything) clean up and sync and then keep things that way. It will make you happier and more content.
Or sell you iPhone and buy a smartphone that has no issues. I find it hard to believe any reasonable person would continue to use a smartphone that they find is "buggy as **". This just doesn't make any sense.

I have recently tried to download a movie form iTunes store that I have rented. Unfortunately after 5 gb it stops downloading.
I have cleared up some space but still it cannot be downloaded. I have  now about 9 GB of free space. The film weights 6 GB. The iTunes app tries to download it constantly. • How do I re-download a movie I purchased but had to remove temporarily to make space for other movies?

Ok so I think I have most of the kinks worked out in how iOS 5 works for me. But I am having one problem. I have more movies than I can put on my iPad 2 (64gb) at once. So i deleted some movies from it in order to make room for some new purchases. However, now when I want to get them back on, I can't figure out how without, resyncing it with my computer. What if I only owned the iPad and didn't have the movies anywhere else?  I have figure out how to get music and tv shows I have previously purchased, but can't for the life of me figure out how to get back a movie I alredy purchased.
    Anyone have an anwer?

Oh by the way. Goflex makes a wireless hard drive, the GoFlex Satalite, that you can use with your iPad. It's got 500 FB storage and can stream to 3 devices at once. Even android devices.

  • Not enought space for iPod movies

Hi, I just bought an 80GB iPod video. I'm operating off of an 80G laptop. I have a lot of videos on my computer that I have transferred onto the iPod, but now, in order to free up some space on my laptop, I want to delete them off of my computer and just keep them on the iPod, but everytime I plug in my iPod to put on new content, it syncs with my computer and takes off the existing videos. My question is: can i keep this content on my iPod while taking it off my computer and still be able to plug it in and get newly up dated content such as podcasts and new music/videos???

how do i change it manually update? and does that mean that from now on i any new content i want to add to my iPod will have to be done manually?
