Need to Password Protect Rescue & Recovery 4.5 on my X220

I have purchased a X220 and have installed Rescue & Recovery 4.5. My OS is Windows 7 64bit. I am wanting to set a password on Rescue & Recovery so that when any user tries to open the software, from within Windows, they have to enter a password. Is this possible?

That's not a feature of R&R.
But windows has a feature where you can restrict access to any application that you specify:  http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/80605-applications-prevent-running-specified-programs.html
The way this would work, is that you log into the computer as "admin" then you can run any application that you want.  Your other users log into the computer as "user" and then they are only allowed the run the applications that you specify.

No, there's no passcode protection for Notes.

  • Need to Password Protect My Linksys Wireless Router

Hey Guys - I need to password protect my Linksis Router. How do I access it's settings?

    Hi Weskandel,
Open Safari and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. Press return. A small box prompting you for a username and password will appear.
The default username and password for Linksys routers is "admin" On older Linksys routers leave the username blank and type "admin" for the password.
Once inside, it's very easy to change the password for the router. Best of luck!

I don’t understand what you are saying or implying Liam.   Just need to secure password protect,
    Create a secure zone
Specify the content to include in the secure area.
         1.     Select Site Manager > Secure Zones and click Add Secure Zone.

The landing page is where users land after logging into to the secure zone.
         3.     Specify the content to include in the secure zone by clicking the Secured Content tab and moving content from the left panel to the right.
         4.     Specify the persons with access to the secure zone by clicking Subscribers and adding the persons.

         1.     Create a web form with username and password fields. See Create and insert a form. Note: Ensure the following:
    - Your web form has the username and password fields. If you remove these fields, the system will assign random password that is not emailed to the customer.

  • Why do we need to password protect our system?

They say their is "no such thing as a dumb question" but I know this is one. sigh. I'm curious to the reasons why this is so important.
I understand password protecting prohibits others from piggybacking and using my network. What else does it do?

From Context, I assume you are talking about using a password on your WiFi network.
    The answer is "It Depends".
If you live in the middle of no where, then the chances of someone using your network or sniffing your traffic is small.
If you live in an apartment, or your neighbors homes are very close to yours, or there are lots of people driving/walking near your home, then the chances of someone using your WiFi are much higher.
Yes someone may be using your bandwidth. This means your web surfing may be slower as you are fighting with others to download graphics and such.
Chances are your ISP service aggrement says you are not suppose to let others uses your ISP connection.
If someone sniffs your network traffic, then they can see what you are doing on the interenet. The good news is that generally connections to your Bank, or when actually entering payment information while shopping on-line is encrypted between your computer and your bank or on-line store.
Your home router (aka WiFi base station) acts as a firewall from internet attempts to break into your computer, however, if someone can sit in their apartment and use your WiFi, they can also attempt to break into your Mac because they are inside your home network and your router is actually helping them in stead of blocking them. So do you trust your neighbors?

Not with the Apple Mail app.
    There are two 3rd party apps that use webmail resources that allow secure accounts as well as multiple accounts;
For Gmail accounts use Secure Gmail, and for other accounts use Secure Webmail. Both are in the iTunes App Store.

  • Copy and paste Java script for password protecting a page?

I need to password protect one page which I want to call my LOGIN page on a site I'm making in Dreamweaver CS5.5.  Unfortunately I know that the hosting company I'm using does not have the ability to allow me password a single directory on the server end to accomplish this (I know STRANGE)   .... SO
I found some code online - java script that I can just copy and paste into the <head> section of my page.  This might be a silly question but is this a 'safe' way to do this?    (I don't need anything fancy and the people whom will be accessing this page will all have the SAME password, so I don't need a registration form or anything fancier...)
    Any thoughts?

Ugg I totally knew you would all say that (because I already knew that would offer me the easiest solution), change hosts and now I'm embarrassed to say that YES I am paying for the hosting; BUT, I have to explain that I'm with this hosting company because way back when I started that site I needed something super user friendly because I was just learning.  Now I have learned more and have started to use Dreamweaver.  I just stayed with the same hosting and will use FTP to upload my new more updated site.  In the company's defense even though they do offer a way to FTP a site up, their main objective (I think) is to have a really easy way for people to get a site up without knowing anything about code or css or anything; and they operate under the assumption that MOST of their customers will be using their super easy software and not use FTP.  That is why I think they are limited to what they offer, at least that is my take on it.  My more recent sites do not use this company as I have tried to learn and 'move up'.
Anyway I guess if I don't want to switch hosting I still have the same problem.  Is it really that difficult to make something that has just one use ID and password which would be the same thing for every person?  Might be a great learning experience for me?
Yep it might be time for me to switch hosting....  sigh.  What to do.....

  • Help password protecting a desktop application

Hey guys I'm creating an application that I need to password protect. I've already created a JFrame with components and action listeners where a user can enter a password (twice to make sure they match) and a username. When my application begins the first thing the user sees are these three fields with instructions prompting them to register. Is there a way to encrypt this information and store it securely? Does anyone have any tips as to good practices when creating a secure application?

    what's the best way secure
information in an application. Depends on the information! (and application and .....)
Why would you store the password in a
    database? Why not?
On a serious note, where else would you like to store passwords? I suppose a text file is an option - although (imho) its only suitable for a small data structure (small number users).
What are the benefits? What are the benefits of using database over text files?
Ease of use, would be my first argument!
    Performance*
*this may be dependent on size of the data structure. Some may argue that a text file offers better performance for small structures - I'm don't know.

  • Password protecting a networked printer

Hello, here's the situation. My family has a networked printer (Brother 402cn) that's shared via a linksys 802.11g router with three computers (iMac G5, PB and Toshiba). The iMac is the main computer and I would like to password protect the printer so that one needs to input a password to be able to print from the iMac. How would I go about doing this?
    Thanks for your time,
    Eric
    PowerBook 12-inch 867   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Unless password protection is a feature built into the printer driver, which I assume is not the case and for which you should be talking to Brother anyway, the only reliable way to do this is to:
1 get a network operating system, such as AppleShareIP, OS X Server, Novell, or one of the Windows servers
2 install the NOS on one computer; note that ASIP is going to require a Mac capable of booting OS 9, OS X Server is going to require a Mac capable of booting OS X, and the Novell and Windows servers will require machines capable of booting Windows.
3 plug the printer directly into the computer running the NOS.
4 set up and configure the print server software in the NOS. In particular, enable the password provisions.
5 put the NOS onto the network.
This is a non-trivial task. It is also a non-cheap task. Normally network printers on small home networks are set up so that anyone can print to them at any time. I have a Brother laser on my home net; when I don't want anyone to print to it, I either remove the paper (it can't print if there's no paper to print to... ) or simply unplug the power.
May I ask why you need to password-protect the printer? Even though I have a server installed, I'd not go to all the trouble of setting up passwords for the printer. Things could get very sticky if She Who Must Be Obeyed ever found out that she was locked out of the printer...

  • Password protecting documents in Pages

Is it possible to save a document in Pages (1.0.2) with password protection?

Stephen - This is not possible. I use this workaround for the one or two files I really need to password protect: I use Disk Utility to create a new disk image. I choose the size I want (5 meg is good enough) and select the option to encrypt it. This makes a disk image that requires a password to view. Once it's open, I can put any files I want on it.
This won't be a good solution if you want to send someone a password protected file or have other needs.
Incidentally: Since iPods have no security, when I backup my entire personal folder to it, I do it onto the same kind of encrypted image. This should be very safe in case I lose my iPod.

Not folder but file (I do hope you understand the difference). Have you tried to search SDN at all? I don't have much time, but before replying initially I did just a quick search and it brought several posts mentioning the archiving functionality. And I'm sure 'Smartform to PDF' will bring up gozillion posts. Also I find the Google search with addition 'site:sap.com' to be quite helpful.
However, I would still recommend to review the requirements. Why exactly do you need this password protection? If there is a fear that someone other than a recipient might get access to the email account then there is really a bigger security issue in the organization and it should be resolved by some other means. As I have mentioned, password does not really add much protection.
Out of curiosity I briefly looked at the IRM description on the Microsoft's web site and it doesn't seem to be very helpful. First of all, it's the MS software and has to be installed on the user's PC and configured (how do we know the emai recipients are even on Windows?). Also it does say "Prevent an unauthorized recipient from accessing e-mail content", but I didn't quite get how exactly. Is there a retinal scan that comes with it? And the list of things it does not do gives you the whole another perspective on the email security.
