I'm working on a friends WinXP Pro PC that I am going to have to format and reinstall WinXP.
My friend's kids both got an IPod for Christmas with music purchace cards and have purchaced and downloaded music from Itunes to the WinXP PC on two different profiles.
When I format and reinstall WinXP and set up new profiles, how do I backup and restore their music they purchaced?
What happens to their credits they have registered in Itunes? Does Itunes have logins that remember this credit info?
What else do I have to watch out for with ITunes to restore?

There is a backup menu command in iTunes that will backup the library, all playlists, games, music, video, podcasts, etc. After you reinstall the OS and iTunes, just put the backup disk in and it will recognize it as a backup and ask you if you want to restore from it.
Whatever credits they have are with the iTunes store, not the local iTunes client -- so you should just see the credits when you login again.
Make sure you deauthorize the machine (for all users) before you reinstall the OS. That way they won't lose one of the 5 machines they can play on.
Make sure you re-update all the video and audio drivers, chipset drivers, etc from the manufacturer's website. New drivers will not be on the OS installation CD nor will they come down with the Windows Updates. So, you might suddenly see problems with playing audio and video that you didn't see in the old installation of the OS.

So just to be clear, when you say "just bought" how long ago was that? Is it on this new iPhone that you had pictures, texts, etc that you want? Were you backing up to iCloud or onto iTunes?
This may not help for everything but if you go to iCloud.com and log in, are you able to find your pictures there? -

I would remove Reader and repair or reinstall Acrobat.
Having different major versions can cause some users issues. Reader is not necessary if one has Acrobat installed. Even though Adobe has improved the capability of having both Reader and Acrobat with the same major version level there are still user configurations that have problems with this setup. -
I have QuickTime Player 7.6.8, I cannot update or remove it b/c I am missing QuickTime.msi file. It is gone and I need it back. Please help.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.) -

Try downloaded the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 standalone updater and installing it.

Locate your missing iPhone with Find My iPhone.
There is no other way to do this, and Apple can't do this for you. -
Hi can anyone help me. I have a apple macbook laptop OSX 10.5.8 . When i push print, it shows my printer but says cannot communicate with printer. (epson stylus nx125). Do I need new drivers? Please help . regards Cindy

Some basic printer troubleshooting steps before worrying about a printer driver:
1. Have you tried turning the printer off and back on?
2A. Is the printer attached with a cable?
If yes, have you tried unplugging and re-plugging both ends of the printer cable?
If that does not help, can you test the printer with another cable?
2B. If your printer is not connected to the computer with a cable, have you tried restarting your printer (assuming wireless connection)?
Have you tried restarting your wireless router?
3. Have you tried restarting your MacBook? (Be sure to save your work first.)
4. Does the printer have ink? (Doesn't usually generate a 'communications error' though)
5. Have you updated OS X or the program you're trying to print from recently? -

In that case, the only option left to try would be to remove the rtc cell - see Page 63 of your Maintenance & Service Guide - then hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Leave the notebook like this for 20 minutes, then replace the rtc cell, reassemble and try booting again.

Hi, when you say you have tried everything... I presume you have gone into Settings > Store and logged out and back in with your account details?
You could try purchasing an app via iTunes to see if its an issue with the device or the account you're using.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?

i have been trying to download the newest itunes to my windows 7 computer wit the last 2 wks now... im at the stage where iv tried everting from uninstalling itunes to installing it again... can someone please help before i throw the computer out the window!

My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.
