Need to really delete photos

Help~
I have some ahem, private, photos that I put in a whole separate photo library. I have since moved them to a CD and want to delete them from my computer. I thought I had accomplished that by dragging them all to the trash and then emptying and securing the trash. However, when I select my photos as a screen saver, they still come up in the rotation!! yikes! not what I want someone walking in on...
can anyone help me really get these off my computer please??
Thanks

Oh my...where could they be hiding? What is the name of the album or folder you have selected for the screensaver? Is it the iPhoto Library folder? is it another folder on your hard drive?
One other idea...were these photos first in your main iPhoto Library, then you exported them to a folder on the desktop and then deleted them from the main library and then created a new iPhoto Library then imported them into that library?
If so, did you empty the trash in the main iPhoto Library? If not, then the photos are still in the same place on your hard drive until you empty iPhoto's trash, and then they will be deleted from the hard drive.

  • Really deleting photos

Okay i have searched for this and i have not had any luck, and seem to be the only one having this problem.
how do i really delet photos from iPhoto? i have selected them, and hit delete, then emptied the trash, and everything seems deleted.
But then i will open another ilife app, iWeb for instance, and hit the media button. All the photos that i have deleted still appear there, and are completly usable.
This leads me to believe that deleting photos from iphoto is not actually getting rid of them. Any ideas on how to completly get rid of these photos from my computer?
    thanks

    ryan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you checked your Originals and Modified folders to see if those files are still there?
If not then try quitting iPhoto and the other iApps and the open iWeb or iDVD and see if they are still there? I just tried to duplicate your problem and was able to partially. After deleting a photo in iPhotos I check my iDVD project (it was open at the time of the deletion) and got a blank white thumbnail with the file name of the photo I deleted. After restarting both applications it was cleared out.
If they are still in one of those folders then make sure they are not visible anywhere in iPhoto (put the file name in the search box at the bottom). They should be gone.
    Do you Twango?
You might check in your Originals and Modified folders for the file.

  • Really, really delete photos

I went through my iPhoto 08 library 7.1.5 (378) and deleted a ton of photos. I used mostly the delete key but some drag to trash. I emptied trash and they all went away - I thought. However, I do not see a change in the size of the iPhoto library package.
Is this normal? Does deleting a photo leave an file of the image around somewhere? Is there a way to really, really delete them?

So you're running a Managed Library and also keeping copies of the files in your Pictures Folder.
This means that you are using twice the disk space.
The Photos outside the Library package have nothing to do with iPhoto, and quite sensibly, iPhoto has no control over them.
but someone else on a forum wrote that it is a bad idea to mess with the iPhoto package.
It is, and there is simply never a need to in normal usage.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to really delete photos in Photos?

I deleted some photos (movies actually) in Photos to free some disk space. The size of the Photos library shrinks, but I don't get more space in my hard disk and the size of the iPhoto library does not shrink. I can not open the iPhotHow can I really get the photos from my disk?

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • IPhone doesn't really delete photos?

I'm not sure if this is a bug in the OS or a side effect of some setting or app.
    iPhone 5s 64gb, iOS 7.0.1
I took 3 photos on the phone. I then deleted them from the Photos app. When I go in there, and go into Camera Roll, it says "No Photos or Videos".
I wanted to save a PNG (with a transparent background) file from an e-mail that I received. I tapped on the file, held my finger down, and when the sub menu came up, I clicked "Save Image".
I then went into my Photos app, and in the camera roll there is one image. The transparent PNG file is there, but it's overlayed on the first photo that I took and then deleted! I then tried to save the PNG from the same e-mail again, and a new image appeared in Camera Roll. It was the transparent PNG overlayed on the second photo that I took and deleted! I tried it again and it was overlayed on the 3rd photo I took.
I deleted all of the images, powered the phone on and off, and tried the same steps again and the same behavior occurs.
So it appears as though my phone is not actually deleting the images that I took.

  • HT4906 Help with deleting photos on photo stream?

I deleted photos on photo stream on my phone and thought that was supposedto delete the same photos on all devices but now I'm unable to delete on my com puter????
Also my import progress bar and spinning wheel have been going for hours even tho the photos were DL'd 6 hours ago??? And no the STOP IMPORT  button is not working??? HELP!!!!

Yes I read it....."You can delete photos from your photo stream the same way you delete other photos from your iOS device or Mac. Just select the photos you want to remove, and tap the trash can icon or click Delete. On your PC, select the photos you want to remove from your photo stream, right-click, and then select delete. When you delete a photo from Photo Stream on one device, iCloud will automatically delete it from the Photo Stream album or view on your other devices. Learn more about deleting photos.
Note: Deleting individual photos from Photo Stream is supported by iOS 5.1 or later, iPhoto 9.2.2 or later, Aperture 3.2.3 or later, and Apple TV Software Update 5.0 or later. You will need to manually delete photos you downloaded to iOS devices using iOS 5.0.1 or earlier after updating to iOS 5.1."
BUT...problem is I'm being told everything is up to date ...nothing new to install. I HAVE deleted from my phone. And it won't let me do it manually from my Mac.

  • How can I keep every single photo from saving to "collections""my photo stream""camera role" and just use one folder? And why do I have to delete the same pictures 4 times? In "collections""myphotostream"camera role""deleted photos" I need ONE FOLDER

im sick of deleting the same picture 4 separate times, I want to limit everything to one folder and only have to delete one time, how? Why does this have to be so complicated

Photos you take on your camera are in the Camera Roll and are like the film in a camera.
Photo Stream is an independent stream of photos from all devices that are logged onto the same iCloud account and that have Photo Stream turned on. Photo Stream photos are kept in the cloud for 30 days or up to 1000 photos, whichever comes first, so unless you have a particular photo you just don't want to stay out there for 30 days, you don't really need to delete Photo Stream Photos. They are temporary. Your device will continue to keep your Photo Stream photos from prior to the 30 day limit, but if you switch Photo Stream off in iCloud and then right back on, the only photos that will re-display in Photo Stream on that device are the ones that remain within the 30 Day/1000 photo parameter.
Collections is simply a single place which shows all of the photos that you have on your device. You do not need to delete photos from Collections. It is just a single place where you can see the contents of all of your albums.
Photos in albums that you have created on the device itself are tied to the photos in your Camera Roll, so if you delete them from the Camera Roll, it will tell you that it will also be deleted from an album.
Albums that you have sync'd from your computer should be removed the same way you got them there - by hooking the device up to a the computer you did the sync with, and un-selecting the album from the Photo profile screen.
So, really, there are only two places that you need to delete photos - Camera Roll and Photo Stream.

Try deleting the iPod Photos Cache folder. There may be more than one. For its location see:
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
Also, go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and make sure syncing photos is unchecked.

I just updated my iTunes, and I need to delete photos from my iPod 4, and there is a Photo Library that synced to my iPod when i plugged it into my computer, and now it doesnt have the option to delete them off my iPod. How do I get rid of these photos? I have read other questions that say to plug the iPod into the computer and like un-sync it, but I downloaded the new iTunes and it doesnt have a photos tab. Does anyone know how to solve my problem? Please and Thank You, Megan!

Just what did you do to the computer?
It sounds like the iPodf is seening the iTunes libary as a new libary.

The only way you can do that is to import them into your library first, but you may have done that already.
The easiest way to tell is to select a photo from the photostream album in iPhoto and ctrl-click on it, if it gives you the option to import it isn't in your iPhoto library, if it offers you the option to show in library it has already been imorted.

  • HT4623 I lost my apps and iTunes after a restore, but it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone 4. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos, but I'm still getting the same message.

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. When I open iTunes, "Welcome to your new iphone" and it says I can re-do the "restore" and choose my lastest update. I assume this will give me back my apps and iTunes. When i choose to do this, it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos from the phone, but I'm still getting the same message every time I re-try. I don't want to delete everything, but I don't know what to do...? Thanks!

Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

They will be backed up only until you backup again. iCloud is not a storage drive in the sky, it is a backup service only. If you delete the photos and videos from the camera roll, and then you backup the iPad with iCloud, you will overwrite that backup and the photos will be gone.
Import the photos to your computer if they are that important to you. iCloud is for backup only, not a storage place that you can download your photos from again once you overwrite that backup.
