Need to recover Tungsten C files.

I have a Tungsten C which stopped working over a year ago.  The battery died, and I have not replaced it.  I continued using the palm desktop on my laptop with Vista.  The Vista laptop stopped functioning when I installed Service Pack 1.  Since the PDA doesn't function, I have no backup of my information.  I need to use the recovery function on my laptop, which says that it will erase all of my data on my C drive.  I have removed the hard drive, and accessed my important files to back them up.  The only thing I cannot seem to access is my palm desktop data.  When I was using XP, the calendar data was stored in a .DAT file.  I could copy the file from my computer and paste it in the right spot in another to transfer the data.  There is no .DAT file in the Vista setup.  Does anyone know where the file that stores the data is located in Vista?
Post relates to: Tungsten C

What version of the Palm desktop?
Dis you have user account Control on?
If it was 6.2.2 Palm desktop then the files are under Documents/Palm OS Desktop/ *Hotsync username* Also they will be in .mdb format.
Another location on you PC to check is under the virtual store.
As well you could try looking for .bak files.

  • Needing to Recover External HD Files

Last week I woke up and plugged my external 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive into my macbook and I got this message, ""this disk is not readable by this computer"". I've used this HD for almost 2 years and have had zero problems.
It gave me three options: Initialize, Reject, Ignore
I selected ignore and immediately went to Disk Utility, and the drive wouldn't mount, and the partitions weren't showing, and the name of the drive was different.
I ejected, and tried again. I got the same message. This time I selected "Initialize" thinking that, that meant to mount it.
It took 1 second to initialize. But it still didn't mount, so I went to Disk Utility, and it was showing zero partitions, the name was changed to a default WD name.
I've got about 250GB worth of data on this drive.
Any ideas of how I can go about recovering it?

If you erased the drive, then you will have to use a data recovery tool to recover the data. However, sounds like you have already tried that with no success, which indicates that the drive has probably died and is completely unusable. If you do not have backups of that data, you will need to either say your goodbyes to it or pay for an expensive data recovery service to disassemble the drive and recover what they can.
Does the drive show up in Disk Utility? Have you tried recovering with [Data Rescue|http://www.prosofteng.com> or [File Salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]?

  • DESPERATE: need to recover corrupted Word file

    Hi Everyone,
I hope someone out there can help me recover a corrupted Word file. My Macbook froze while I working on an important document. I was forced to restart it but when I tried to reopen the file I had been working on, I got a message that "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened" I have surfed the web for solutions and some suggested opening and repairing the file under PC versions of Word. I've done that, but when the file opens, the entire document is filled with weird symbols and characters. Please tell that I haven't lost everything
Thanks for any leads for solving this or on any recovery softwares that might provide some partial recovery of the data.

Well it's hard to say if recovery of your file is possible, but you can check if you have selected the Save AutoRecover information every x minutes check box in your MS Office settings.
If yes just check AutoRecover file location box in MS Office settings.
If not and you don't have backup, your file is lost i think.

  • Need to recover some emix files! Help!

In mail I have a rule that moves all messages recieved after 21 days ago to a folder called archived. I noticed today that I seem to be missing a bunch that are less than 21 days old. Not in the inbox, not in the archived folder. Anyway, I had the brilliant idea of adding to the rule to say that any message that is also sent after 21 days ago goes in that forlder.
Well, every message in the archive folder disappeared. Gone. The emix files are gone. We're talking a year's worth of messages that I wanted to save. Any one know if I can get them back?

I have a rule that moves all messages recieved
after 21 days ago to a folder called archived.
Did this ever work? Mail doesn't automatically apply rules to anything other than incoming messages. There is no way such a rule would ever do automatically what you'd expect. Did you apply it manually from time to time or what?
I had the brilliant idea of adding to the rule to say that any
message that is also sent after 21 days ago goes in that forlder.
Which couldn't possibly work as expected either.
Any one know if I can get them back?
If the *.emlx files are nowhere to be found (i.e. they've been deleted for some reason), your only hope is to try to recover them with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try this, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • Did a backup & erased hard disk - Now need to recover the .dmg file? How?

Hi there.... thanks for your help!
I used Carbon Copy Cloner (found on versiontracker.com) to make a complete .dmg backup of an entire Powerbook G4. I copied the 28GB .dmg file via ethernet to my Time Capsule and that worked just fine.
I did a 7-pass secure erase on a the PB and have booted up from Tiger OS discs, but cannot find a way to access the Time Capsule to restore the machine.
    How do I do this??
    Thanks again!
    DL

I think I figured it out!
I restarted the Powerbook with a Firewire 400 cable attached, I realized that I could select "T" on the keyboard and make it a target drive. I mounted it on my machine, which is connected via ethernet to my Time Capsule (Aiport is much too slow...). From my computer, I went to Disc Utility and restored the .dmg file from the Time Capsule to the connected Powerbook.
    It seems to be working....

  • My challenge: recovering original iWeb files from 2010-2011 timeframe, which included a blog consisting of original postings from me and comments posted to the web from family and friends. I have the web archive files - but did not move iWeb files then.

Background:  I started this blog while living overseas and going to sea with the Navy.  Missed the opportunity to move the iWeb files with content attached from the mobile.me server to another server.  Now, I have the original web archive files - good - but not the comments added to them by family and friends - bad.
My ultimate objective is to create a hard-cover bound book of these files with the comments on the blog ... they document a rather significant experience in my family's life ... to do this, I need to recover the original files with postings.
Any thoughts or insight would be sincerely appreciated!
    Thanks, cfwnavy

You have replied to a post that is a month old now and the OP has never replied, so you are probably wasting your time here.
If you read the OP's post and my reply, you will see that he will not be able to recover his blog and neither will you.
If your Mac was stolen and you did not back up your iWeb domain.sites files, then you CANNOT get your blog back.
If you published your site to a host/server, then you can download it back onto your Mac and you will have to re-build your blog/website from scratch and re-publish, but all your replies and responses to posts will be lost and you can never get these back.
My advice would be to re-create your blog in another format such as WordPress.com which is free and don't use iWeb again.
There are plenty of alternatives out there.

  • How to recover my business files from a formatted removable drive?

I need to recover my business files from my formatted drive accidentally. I know I am stupid. I am using Windows XP. It is a Toshiba 500GB external hard drive.
Is there anyone that can help me to restore my files back? The inner files are really important to me. Help, please!

Well! If you really know little about data recovery stuff, I think I could help.
Actually, after you Google “data recovery tools” on the internet, you could see plenty of data recovery tools available online. Some of them are free, some of them are not. You should put much more attention to this point and make a wise
decision according to your won needs.
Here are some freeware for you:
    http://www.piriform.com/recuva
    http://www.formatrecovery.blogspot.com/2013/02/recover-data-after-formatting.html
Here are some paid tools for you:
    http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-data-recovery-file-undelete-utility.htm
You should read these articles to know more information about data recovery stuff and select a right one:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_recovery

Thank you for your prompt replies. I will try your recommended tools latter. Thank you very much!!!!!

  • Need more disk memory--Deleting files

I am trying to delete and back up documents, pictures, etc. because I only have 3 Gigs of space, not enought memory to upgrade to the new operating system. I am still running on Leopard (sigh) I found a folder named, "scanner output" with all the photos I have scanned onto my computer and have either emailed to friends and family or uploaded to iphoto.  Am I ok to delete these files to open up memory space? Will it delete any of the photos I have in iphoto?

If the scanner output is a separate folder, this will not do anything to your iPhoto Library.
Before arbitrarily deleting items, you have the option of either burning your data to discs, Flash drives or purchasing an external hard drive and copying or cloning your important data there.
I would save the data rather than deleting it. You never know when you might have a need to recover old data files.
Here are some of my tips for deleting or archiving data off of your internal hard drive.
You'll need to free up lots of hard drive space.
At a minimum, at least, 15 to 20 GBs of space.
    Perhaps even more.
Hard drive full or near full:
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Uninstall apps that you no longer use. If the app has a dedicated uninstaller, use it to completely uninstall the app. If the app has no uninstaller, then just drag it to the OS X Trash icon  and empty the Trash.
Also, if you save old downloaded  .dmg application installer  files, you can either archive and delete these or just delete the ones you think you'll never install, again.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be thinned out, moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
You may have to Purchase an external FireWire or Thunderbolt hard drive to move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • NEED TO RECOVER A DATABASE USING RMAN with CONTROL FILE AND NO RMAN CATALOG, DISK FAILURE..

    Hello All,
The disk failure caused our production data on the disk to be resotred with the backup data available and recovered through RMAN with cotrolfile , and no catalog DB is configured.
I had the restored the spfile and control file then recovered the database,
    startup nomount;
    RESTORE SPFILE FROM ' path '  ;
    Shutdown immediate;
    startup nomount
    Restore controfile from autobackup;
    restore database;
[AT POINT , A MESSAGE PROMPTED LIKE " failur of restored command - some targets not found"  (thinking may be few archives are not found, i proceeded to incomeplete recovery of DB) ]
    recover database;
    Finished reocvery .
Now in the Grid control i see that 60 blocks of a particular datafile are corrupted and needs recovery. Do i need to get the data file resotred again and recover it or any simple way to recover this data file
When i perform the block recovery , it says recovery failed and when i run the data file recovery it succeeds. Please provide you inputs to recover the database as it is production BI database and pretty critical to our client.
Thanks for your valuable time in advance.

  • Need help recovering files form external drive!

Well, I made a stupid mistake this morning. I am used to the Windows style of copying where if you have folders with the same name and it asks if you want to overwrite the folder, it typically merges the contents.
Apparently in OSX, when you overwrite a folder, it removes the content from the previous folder and proceeds to copy the folder..
So I went to backup from my laptops drive to my external and I copied the folder and it asked about the overwrite and I said okay and instantly had the thought that it was a bad idea and stopped it after only two images and the drive works perfectly fine, just missing a lot of images.
So how can I recover these images? I haven't used the drive since to ensure that I didn't overwrite the files... What recover software do you recommend for OSX? Especially looking for a free solution.. I don't have $80 to plop down on a more conventional program. Also, are there programs that can place the images in the folders they came from? Would take a while to try and restore my folder structure as well...
I did try the program PhotoRec that is free and open-source but it searches the whole drive and can't focus only on deleted files with the HFS+ file structures, which means there will be TONS and TONS of images that it 'recovers' that are already just fine on the drive.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated! I 'lost' nearly the whole years pictures. But I know they are all still there.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
    - KS

There isn't a free solution for data recovery, and even the commercial solutions may not be able to recover all the files, since you had already started writing to the drive.
More importantly, you said you deleted files from your backup drive, right? So, if it's a backup, don't you still have copies of those files elsewhere? If you don't, you need to quit thinking of this drive as a backup, because it isn't a backup if it contains the only copies of the images on it.

My hard drive died and I need to resync my Ipad.  Will following the initial instructions for syncing work or do I need to restore my original files from the dead hard drive.

If the hard drive that crashed is the one that stored the itunes library, be sure to restore the library from Time Machine (mac) or whatever backup you use on windows.  That will get back your music.  I suspect that the replacement drive has an empty itunes library and thus, perhaps, the itunes match used that to sync to its servers.
Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.

  • Recover a single file in Content Services

I've been asked to document how we would go about recovering a single file in Content Services. The Trash/Archive angle I'm clear on, but what about an extreme case. Lets say that someone created a file, trashed it, emptied the trash, and then it expired from the Archive before the user realized that they needed the file.
Is it possible, and if so how would one go about getting the file back assuming that there is a full db backup once a day?
Would enabling BFILE aging help? If so, how?
On a related note: If archive is set to expire content after 1 month, but BFILE aging is turned off, when does deleted content get purged from the Archive? It's not 1 month, as I have deleted files in the Archive going back to January.

Archive expiration and BFile aging are orthogonal. BFile pushes the LOBs of documents that are in the archive to bfile. Archive expiration deletes files from the archive after the configured time. If this is not the behaviour you are seeing please file a TAR and they can help check whether your system is configured correctly or if you are running into a bug.
