Need to Regenerate Original-Style Safari Bookmarks Folder

Hi: Safari "comes with" its own stylized versions of the "Bookmarks Menu" and "Favorites Bar" folders. Long story--I accidentally deleted the Bookmarks Menu folder. Not a problem I thought; so I just created my own. However, without getting into detail, I find that I need the original-type Bookmarks Menu folder back. Do you have any idea how to get Mavericks/Safari to generate one? Thanks.

Well, duh! I never thought to do so and to see if the missing folder would be available for storage of the bookmark. It was. Now I think I can solve the rest of my whole problem--which I didn't mention earlier. I'll post back if I have additional problems. Thank you very much.

  • Moving Large Safari Bookmarks Folder

    Anyone else with this problem.
Using Safari on Mavericks. Trying to use Safari > Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks to move a large folder to new location in my Bookmarks Menu folder. I don't have a problem moving smallish folders. But, when I try to move the large folder (i.e., drag and drop), Safari fails and quits respoding (force quit becomes necessary) if I try to move it anywhere except the top of my Bookmarks Menu folder or into another folder therein. Any solutions/thoughts?
I am not interested in spliting the folder. I can handle things more or less successfully by moving the folder out of my Bookmarks Menu folder. But, I don't like this solution.

I dont see an Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari folder in my windows drive.
I think I may have meant to say the bookmarks are being placed on my Dell pc

  • Importing Safari bookmark folder to Leopard

Hi, i just got a new mpb, and i used to use Tiger on my old one. I am trying to import my bookmark file which was located in Library in the OS to the new Leopard location: Library>Caches>Metadata>Safari. I copy and pasted from Tiger to Leopard, but the bookmark bar and bookmarked pages have not changed in Safari. Am I doing this right? thanks.

There is no way to keep a folder in the right-hand window from opening when you drop a bookmark into it.
In placing a folder or bookmark between to folders, keep the cursor tight to the left-hand border of the window. When you are between two folders, you will see a line appear and you can then drop the bookmark or folder. If you don't keep the cursor al the way to the left, Safari assumes you want to drop the bookmark or folder in another folder.

  • Transfer Safari bookmarks to new MacBook Pro

I just got a new MB Pro yesterday and would like to transfer my bookmarks from my older SR MB. So I "exported" them to a jump drive and then transferred that file "Safari Bookmarks.html" to my new desktop. I then went into Safari and tried the "import" option. However, I get an message that says "can not import bookmarks. Unable to read any bookmarks in Safari Bookmarks.html.
I don't know why this process can't be simpler? I've had the same problems with Windows Bookmarks (Favorites) for years now. I did manage to drag the entire Safari Bookmarks folder on to the Bookmarks Bar, but all these bookmarks are in sub-folders under "Safari Bookmarks.html".

Move the file ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist over in the Finder, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.
First of all, when I export my bookmarks, the produced is called "safari bookmarks.html". Moving this file as per the about directions did not make Safari use the new bookmark list. I then tried renaming the file to bookmarks.PLIST and that didn't help either. I must be doing something wrong. Is it necessary to reboot for the change to take effect?

  • How do I get safari bookmarks to update onto the iPhone?

On my older iPhones, the Safari bookmarks always used to slurp up from my computer onto the phone so I could use them on the phone. Now, that does not happen, the bookmarks on the phone are old and never update when I plug my phone into iTunes to update.
What setting do I need to revisit to make Safari bookmarks update from the computer onto the iPhone?
    TIA,
    Ken

I do not subscribe to any other than the basic iCloud I am forced into having and I noticed also, in settings on the phone under 'info' in iTunes when the phone is plugged in, says that bookmarks are being updated through iCloud. This cannot be true as my bookmarks have not updated for a long time, I think since iCloud came into existence. Maybe this is an iCloud issue?
I don't want to fiddle with settings in the 'info' section as many of them say that there will be duplicates if I choose to use my computer as the source for updates. It is very dangerous as I already have duplicate calendar entries and suspect this has happened because of iCloud coming into the picture. It is very scary.

  • Time Machine - Safari Bookmarks

    Hello,
I accidentally deleted a Safari bookmarks folder, and lost a large amount of bookmarks with it. I have a relatively recent Time Machine backup and I restored the bookmarks.plist onto my desktop. If I replace the current bookmarks.plist file in my Safari folder with the restored one, will I loose all of the bookmarks I created since my last back-up?

    Yes.
Depending on how many you've added, you might want to move them to the sidebar in the Edit Bookmarks panel before restoring the old ones.
Then you can selectively move them back.

  • A week or so ago I upgraded some apple software and now Safari drops my news bookmarks folder. I can restore it from Time Machine but it will not stay in place. Suggestions?

My iMac, running 10.10.3 seems to have an interesting issue.  Since the last round of apple updates[ including photos 1.0]safari has been dropping my "News" bookmarks folder.  It disappears on restart or when trying to add a bookmark to any folder. I am able to restore it with time machine and it will stay in place until all of a sudden .I notice it is once again gone.  Restore and its back.  Quite a pain in the butt.  Any suggestions on a more permanent fix would be appreciated.

Thanks, wife has iPad on holiday so I could not check it. iCloud occurred to me but I am fairly new to it as prior to iPad we had no need of it.  Thanks again Linc,   I've tried it a couple of times this afternoon and it seems to be sticking around.  Hugh

  • How do I search for a bookmark folder by name in Safari?

How do I search for a particular bookmark folder in Mac Safari 7.06?  Since there seems to be no automated way to sort the folders (as in other browsers), in a long list of folders, a particular one can be hard to spot.  Yes yes, very similar to a previous question of mine.  -jan

Click "Help" menu in the Safari menu bar and enter the folder name in the search box.

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

  • How can I transfer my Safari bookmarks to Firefox, I have only managed to put them in a new folder on my desktop

I have n Apple OSX 10.6.8 and have downloaded Firefox as it is more compatable with Ebay

Bookmarks>Unsorted Bookmarks will take you to Library in a new window. At the top left, click the drop down menu and click "Import bookmarks from html" and then select your folder where have saved the safari bookmarks.

  • Need to delete unsorted bookmarks folder

FF3 brought us the "unsorted bookmarks" and associated star in the bar fail. I got rid of the start using userchrome.css file. I need to DELETE the "unsorted bookmarks" folder permanently and forever. If this cannot be done it should be added to FF4 ASAP. When xmarks syncs with ie8 etc this stupid "unsorted bookmarks" folder keeps replicating and I NEVER use it!!!!!!!

    I have the same problem.
I would like to completely eliminate the 'Unsorted Bookmarks' folder in all instances and cases.
I would also like for my "bookmarks menu" folder to be my default folder when I double-click the yellow star.
gareasy's solution removes the folder from the bookmarks menu only, and does not effect the default folder that bookmarks are saved into.
cor-el's solution had no effect at all.
I know there is some genius out there that has a solution.
    Heeeeeeelp!
(I see many people have this same problem too.)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Create a New Bookmark Folder and it Crashes Safari AND OSX !

This has happened to me many time and is extremely frustrating. When I create a new bookmark folder I will get a pinwheel and then all my applications applications lock up and I have to reboot the computer to regain control. I can move the mouse around, but even force quitting safari does not fix unlock the OS, even as extremely difficult it is to make it do that.
This used to happen to me on my old 2007 macbook and I was frustrated with it and its slow speed so I upgraded to a new $2000 iMac i5 and have only had it for a few weeks and it is happening on this new computer as well !!
The Safari version is 5.0.2 (6533.18.5)
What is going on here? This is not acceptable!

    HI,
If Safari is crashing, post a crash report so we can try and help.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

If you migrated files from the MacBook to the iMac, that could be part of the problem.

Third party unsupported Safari add-ons can cause performance issues with Safari. If you had any installed on the MacBook and copied files over, you may have brought the same problem over to the iMac. Post a crash report ...

  • Stuck on a bookmarks folder in safari. Help?

For some reason, I can't go back to the main bookmarks folder on safari and am stuck in a folder that I created. Does anybody know how I can get back to that main folder because this has stumped me for weeks and I can't find anything on google.

It seems that this device is initiating the tunnel, it sends IKE MM1 but it never receives a response from the peer.

  • How to export Safari bookmarks to Chrome?

I love the iPad Mini, but Chrome has some knockout features - like single-line URLs, and queries you can dictate. How can I export my Safari bookmarks into my Chrome Browser on the Mini?

I think this information is stored in
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.
