Need to reinstall carbon copy in new disk format...

I want to reinstall Tiger on my eMac and keep all my settings and files. The only thing I need to change is that I formatted the drive in the Unix format because I thought it was the preferred standard. Oops. I have .mac but no other back up software. Is there a way I can drag it all to an external drive and back?

Not drag and drop. You need to clone to an external drive. You can use the Restore option of Disk Utility:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
8. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Verify the settings for Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only. If they are not correct then reset them.
For added precaution you can boot into safe mode before doing the clone.
However, before you clone the drive you should do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Be sure you format the external drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) After the cloning is completed be sure to test that the clone will boot the computer.
Because you formatted your internal drive with UFS I highly recommend you re-prep the drive before you clone back OS X from the external drive:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-9-premiere-elements-9-direct-download-links.h tml
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • Carbon Copy Cloner and Disk Utilities

I am trying to clone my drive to re-image all my computers (27), I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my new image and it works well; however, If I use disk utilities to restore another computer to the new image several files that should be invisible are in fact visible (etc, tmp, & var). While does this happen and how can I fix the problem. Remember I have 27 computers to re-image and 125 student accounts to manage the fix has to be easy.

    From "Supported configurations" at http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
"Mounted disk image. Cloning to a disk image will (obviously), not yield a bootable volume unless you use CCC to restore the image to a physical partition or disk."
From this, I gather that you must use CCC to restore the image. Presumably this would require using Firewire Target Disk mode, booting from a Firewire connected drive, or booting from another partition with the other Macs -- otherwise you would be trying to replace the OS those Macs are booted from!

  • How much space no I need to make Carbon Copy Clone of my internal drive?

I am upgrading the RAM and HDD in my mid 2009 Macbook Pro. How much space on my external hard drive do I need if I want to make Carbon Copy Clone of my internal drive?
Current drive is 250 GB in capacity
I currently have limited space on in external HD

Hi Niel thanks for the quick reply,
My 250GB capacity drive is relatively full (at about 245GB). Given what you mentioned above,  I assume  I must need to have room for 20GB of surplus space for each backup I make?
And therefore, would I need 265GB (to backup the 245GB drive) for the first time I clone the drive?
    Have I got that right?
    Cheers

  • Need to reinstall fresh copy of mavericks

    Hello.
I have owned a MacBook upgraded a version of mavericks.
Recently I purchased a used i mac with mavericks, Core i3, 500gb HD 16gb ram, still the ownership of this machine is with first user
Any possibility to reinstall a fresh copy of mavericks using my apple ID and changing owner profiles.
    Please help me on this…
    Thanks.

The previous owner should go to their support profile at Apple - Support - Welcome To My Support Profile  and unregister the iMac.
Then you would create a new administrator account on the iMac with your Apple ID, and delete the old admin account with the previous owner's ID.

  • Need to reinstall CS5 Extended on new Win8 laptop.

Originally purchased CS5 Extended license for a Macbook, however it recently met its demise.  Would like to reinstall it on a Windows 8.1 laptop.  I have a valid license key from Adobe. I thought I found an Adobe site with CS5 Extended install files but it's not accepting my key. Thanks!

Serial numbers are specific to the operating system: Windows only or Mac only.
There is a platform swap process to swap Mac serial numbers for Windows and vice versa. However it only applies to CS6.
Order product | Platform, language swap
That leaves you with two choices:
Pay to upgrade to CS6 for Windows
    Creative Suite 6
    Join the Cloud

  • Did i need to reinstall os to new MAC?

some one tell me new MAC os is clone software..not stable
and he tell me i need to reinstall os X to new MAC
then the new MAC will become stable ??
SO??did i need to do that?

    Hi chill2k;
It has been my experience that the factory install of the operating system by Apple is generally good and it is an extremely rare occurrence when a reinstall is required.
Anyone that will not accept that fact doesn't deserve to had time wasted on them. Forget about them. There is better things to do in this life.

  • Do I need to reinstall desktop environment for each user?

    Hello,
I have installed xwindows and the i3 desktop environment on my root account by mistake.  I created a user account and logged into it, but I could not start a xwindows because it wasn't installed on that account.  Do I need to reinstall everything on the new user or is there a way to copy everything over?
    Thanks

What I am still wondering is if using xorg wrap is a hack as opposed to some "cleaner" systemd solution.
Well, simply not using Xwrapper.config, then Xorg will handle this on it's own (see man page extract below). I don't think Openbox has problems with this, so I think the problems you had would have to be looked at separately. But maybe better on their own topic...
    'man Xorg.wrap'
By default Xorg.wrap will autodetect if root rights are necessary, and if
not it will drop its elevated rights before starting the real X server. By
default Xorg.wrap will only allow executing the real X server from login
    sessions on a physical console.
When auto-detecting the wrapper will drop rights if kms graphics are avail‐
able and not drop them if no kms graphics are detected. If a system has
multiple graphics cards and some are not kms capable auto-detection may
fail, in this case manual configuration should be used.
You're a bit late on that one
