Need to reinstall iLife provided with my iMac

Hi!
I need to reinstall the iLife that was provided with my iMac, and I don't see the Mac OS X installation DVDs (provided with my iMac) marked as containing iLife. Do I need to buy iLife separately if I want to install that software that was provided with my iMac when I bought it?
Thank you!
Silvana

Silvana,
Please see: Using Restore discs with computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301408 especially the section: Reinstall some (but not all) bundled applications without erasing the Mac OS X volume about half way down the page.

  • Do I need to reinstall iLife for os upgrade

I'm thinking about moving my Mini Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard so I can use iCloud
Will I need to reinstall iLife following the upgrade.

    The short answer is.. No.
However, keep near by those SYSTEM and APPLICATIONS DVDs that came with your computer, just in case anything goes wrong.
... FYI... make sure to check SOFTWARE UPDATE after the install, for any updates to your iLife applications that will make them more compatible with Lion.

  • I need help getting iLife back on my iMac G5 (PPC)!

Around a year ago I decided to finally retire my beloved iMac G5 (non-isight version, in case it matters).  My (not at all tech-savy) mother recently got an iPhone, and I decided to give her my old iMac G5, all set up so that she could use iTunes, Calendar, and iPhoto to sync with her phone.
I wanted to erase the hardrive so that we could start from scratch, and since I couldn't find the original disks, I decided to just go ahead a do the clean install with the Leopard disk (which is what was previously running on the iMac).  After I did so I realized that iLife had not installed.  I checked the literature and sure enough, the Leopard disk doesn't include iLife.  I tried my OS X Tiger disk (also purchased for the iMac) and realized that, it too does not contain the iLife applications (although the booklet does talk about them).  I went ahead and imported all of my mom's favorite CDs and gave her an iTunes lesson, but she still needs a way to manage her photos.  Finally, I located the OS X 10.3.6 disks that came with my iMac.  I was hoping iLife was on the "Additional Software" disk, but unfortunately it is not.  When I tried the Install Disk 1 (hoping that I would have the option of just installing the iLife software) I only have the option of erasing everything and installing Panther.  I really don't want to do this since I've already got itunes loaded up and ready to go... plus I'd have to re-install Tiger then Leopard.  Is there a way for me to recover, install, or download iLife?  Is my only option starting from scratch using the original G5 disks?

Unless you can find a copy of iLife on eBay or Craig's list, you'll have to buy it from Apple or erase your drive.
Reinstalling from your original discs and then upgrading will take a while, but you'll save the cost of iLife.

  • Wireless keyboard needs pairing with my iMac

I changed the batteries in my wireless keyboard and now need to pair it again with my iMac. However I need to type in my password to wake up the computer - which I can't do without the keyboard! Any ideas?

    Hi Charliecornwall,
When changing the batteries on an Apple Wireless Keyboard, the computer should maintain the pairing. If it does not, you may be able to restart the computer, and if it does not detect a paired keyboard, it should prompt you to pair it. Alternately, if you have access to a USB keyboard, that may also be used to bypass the wake screen password so you can pair the wirless keyboard.

  • How can I reinstall iLife on my macbook without the CD?

I once had iLife on my macbook, however when I updated to OS X Lion, I couldn't find it anymore. I am currently running version 10.7.3.
I need to reinstall iLife without using the CD and without going to the Apple store as I am no where near one.
P.S: When I search for iLife in the App Store it says I have to pay.
    Please Help!
    Thanks!

Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion
If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.

  • Do I need to reinstall AE plugins?

Hi - I have a box version of CS6 and use a lot of 3rd party plugins particularly for After Effects.  Updating from previous CS versions required me to reinstall all of these, which is a real pain.
If I join creative cloud, will this install a new clean CS6 over my current box version requiring me to reinstall the plugins, or will it just install the cloud updates for CS6?
If the answer is that I don't need to reinstall the plugins with CS6, will it be the same if I join cloud after box CS6.5 or CS7 is released?  If I can join cloud later and still not need to reinstall my plugins, I might delay joining for a while to get more value from my box CS6, although the upgrade discount at $29pm is very attractive.
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Richard

The installers don't care for third-party plug-ins and I see no reason why this should be any problem. Even plug-ins with external libraries such as Sapphire or Boris Continuum only place the AEX files in teh AE plug-in folder and require no magic beyond that once they have been installed properly. Whether or not they'll all remain compatible with future versions, is an otehr matter, but only the software vendors can answer that fully. Some ponderings:

  • I have an iMac with Microsoft Office and an HD - Time Machine. I'm buying a MacBook Pro and I want to know that if I use the Time Machine to transfer all my stuff the Microsof Office will work or if I need to reinstall it with another licence ?

I have an iMac with Microsoft Office (and several other licenced softs) and an HD - Time Machine that backup all the stuff. I'm buying a MacBook Pro and I would to know that if I use the Time Machine to transfer all my stuff, the Microsof Office will work normally or if I need to reinstall it with another licence?

You do not need a new license. The license file will be found in /Library/Preferences/ and is named, com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist. Be sure it gets transferred and you will be fine. I see no reason why the file would not be in your Time Machine backup nor any reason why it would be restored.
Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine. You may need help figuring out how to restore your current backup to a new machine.

  • Reinstall OS 9 on G3 iMac with new Hard Drive...running OS X

    Situation:
I recently changed out my hard drive on my G3 iMac DV Graphite....12GB to 100GB. Had difficulties, posted a question on the iMac board and was successfully directed to load OS 10.3. I'm starting with a "clean" hard drive (will add backed up stuff from my G5 via firewire once all is well). I still have a few of my kids games that require the classic environment, so I would like to reinstall OS 9 without having to reinstall OS X, or go through a complicated set of steps to reconfigure the drive. So here's the OS disks at my disposal: original OS 9 restore disk and OS 9.2.1 disk. (I first, tried reinstalling from the 9.2 disk, it started rebuilding my destop...which to my untrained brain meant sending OS X into the nether world, so I quickly aborted.)
    Questions:
What's the best way to reinstall OS 9 in my case?
Which disk is better for the reinstall?
If using the restore disk, which of the restore choices is best for my case (restore in place or saving orginal items)?
I have read similar threads and there is mention of this article:

According to this article, if I encounter problems with OS X I need to reinstall OS X and go through some significant steps. Advice on dealing with things mentioned in this article?

G5 dual and iMac DV   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi, MJC -
You should have no problem installing OS 9.2.1 on that machine, even though it already has OSX on it, provided your OS 9.2.1 Install CD is a retail one (white label, large gold 9). The two OS's are designed to co-exist on the same volume.
All you should need to do is to boot to the OS 9.2.1 Install CD, then do a Clean Install of OS 9.2.1. Note - a Clean Install is safe, it will not remove anything.
Article #58176 - Mac OS 8, Mac OS 9: Performing a Clean Installation
    <hr>
Not sure why you initially experienced the OS 9 installer wanting to rebuild the desktop - that's not one of the things it is designed to do. However, rebuilding the desktop should not affect anything - and is often a cure for some problems.
On the other hand (just did some thinking) - the 'desktop' in this instance is an invisible file (actually two files, but we refer to them as being one) used by OS 9 to track certain things, such as custom icons, what app to use to open which file, where things are, things like that. OSX does not create such a file. If the fresh hard drive had never been exposed to OS 9 previously, then when you booted to the OS 9 Install CD OS 9 would need to create a new desktop file for the drive. I suspect that OS 9 has no built-in message for 'creating desktop file', and used its 'rebuilding desktop' message instead (to let you know what it was doing).

  • I need to reinstall CS2, downloaded from Adobe but when run get serial nr missing, even if I use the one Adobe is providing

Lost my laptop, and now I need to reinstall CS2, in order to install CS3. I downloaded CS2 from Adobe site but when I run the program I get an error message: Your Adobe Photoshop user name, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue. I was using the serial nr that Adobe is providing on the CS2 download page.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)].
