Need to reinstall once a month?

I installed the last Beta in January, and ordered Lightroom 1 in February. I hadn't used it for a few days and this morning I got a message on startup that my registration had expired on February 28, and then it just shut down, with no option of entering a serial number or anything. So, I got out the installation CD and reinstalled. It didn't ask me for the serial number, but at the end of the install Lightroom started up and is usable. I went into "about" and there's my serial number, exactly as it is on the CD box. So there's no question but that when I received the software in mid February I had installed it with the serial number.
This leads me to suspect that this software is going to want to be reinstalled every month, like the goofy Oxford dictionary which every ninety days demands you put your CD in the drive. Unless perhaps I'm not remembering correctly and all I did when I received the box was enter my serial number?
Any idea what's going on? I do not relish the prospect of reinstalling software every thirty days.

I probably didn't uninstall the beta. I thought I had installed Version 1 when I received the CD. But perhaps all I did was enter my Version 1 serial number. I thought that Version 1 was the same as the last Beta. At any rate it was just very strange that when it didn't run this morning, and I then installed Version 1 from the CD this morning, it didn't ask me for the serial number. It just stated up after the install, and in help I found my serial number.
That's why I wondered if the need to install was to be a monthly event, like the Oxford Dictionary. I guess I'll find out on May 3rd. ;-)

When you say Acrobat stops working then what does exactly happen?
Does it nit launch at all? Do you get any error messages?
What if you try to repair Acrobat installation instead of uninstalling and reinstalling?
Have you checked in a new Admin account and noted the behavior?
Try turning off any Antivirus software you have or add acrobat to its exception list and check.

Hi, I need to reinstall Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, so I made a backup yesterday and today I tried to reinstall everything from that backup.
To my surprise, Time Machine says that the last full backup was made on February!
I've always made regular backups during these months on my Time Machine HD, what can I do to reinstall everything from the backup I made yesterday?

Most likely, some folders were inadvertently excluded from your backups, and as a result you can't restore your data in Recovery, Setup Assistant, or Migration Assistant.
Starting from a fresh installation of OS X, set up a new administrator account and log in. Follow the instructions on this page to associate your existing backups with the new installation.
You should now be able to enter Time Machine and restore your user data from a snapshot.* I suggest you do this in two stages. Quit all applications except the Finder before you begin.
Restore all the visible items at the top level of your home folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Enter Time Machine and restore all items in the Library folder. Log out and log back in as soon as the restore is complete.
Any other invisible folders or files at the top level of your home folder that you want to preserve will have to be restored separately. For most users, that isn't necessary.
You'll have to reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, or restore them from another kind of backup, if you have one.
*If you don't see any snapshots in Time Machine, exit the time-travel view and then hold down the option key while selecting

Do I need to reinstall OSX?

I had been using iChat on a daily basis with no problems for the last year, then about a month ago, it refused to connect. The icon would bounce in the dock for a long time and the little spinning beachball icon would appear, and nothing would happen. Sometimes it'd just crash, but I'd usually have to force quit. I tried reinstalling it from the file in the library folder, but it kept giving me an error message as soon as it would get to the last part of the install. I suspect the only way to get it working again is to reinstall OSX, is this the case, or is there something else I could try? Any suggestions would be appreciated - I'm sick of the blah interface of AOL instant messenger!

First of all, you can't "reinstall it from the file in the library folder". If you're referring to the iChat.pkg in /Library/Receipts, that isn't going to help you.
I would suggest isolating the iChat.app launch/connect issue to your particular user account first by creating a test user in System Preferences > Accounts. Once you've created that, you can login and test. If it doesn't work there, that confirms you will likely need to reinstall iChat, which is incidentally only available by reinstall of OS X.

As my question states I need to reinstall my computer (laptop) and I'm not quite sure on how to deal with Premiere pro and After effects.
I am thinking that I need to do some sort of backup and save my projects and footage on a sepparate drive.
If I reinstall my computer, install my creative suit production premium, and move back all of my projects and footage, won't I have to re-link every single clip?
I am currently workning on several different projects and having to re-link everything is something I don't even want to think about, that would take me days if not weeks.
Another option on my mind would be to use Creative cloud. I do have the free version but I have never used it even once before and I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the cloud is and if this is a way to use it.
I have no idea how to go about this computer reinstalation without either loosing tons of work or having to re-link every single clip used.
I am videoediting only as a hobby so I have no experience working with other people and sharing projects or the like, wich is my understanding of what the cloud is for.
Any and all help would be grealty appreciated, I know this is probably really easy but ever since i got my Suit I haven't reinstalled, upgraded och changed my computer so I am just clueless as to how to go about this.
I have Creative suit production premium, I also have the free Creative cloud.
It is only Premiere pro and After effects that I am using and am worried about.

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

Do i need to reinstall?

My ical is acting weird. When I click on week view ical disappears. When i click on month view it zooms in close i have to click it again to see the whole month. In day view if i scroll up or down...wait i can't. What's up
If i need to reinstall how do i do it and can i just reinstall ical, everything else is working great.

I hesitate to recommend a reinstallation of a specific application because I have not seen evidence that it is an effective troubleshooting procedure. On the other hand, I would be inclined to offer a reinstallation of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPC which is appropriate for your Powerbook.
For what it is worth, I have occasionally noticed the zoom behavior on my system. It has happened very rarely and I have not pursued an answer. The other behavior which you have observed may be related to the way you use Sync and iDisk.
Your new questions are valid and you would benefit from starting a new post in either the .Mac Sync or the iDisk forum.

My question is: How do I figure out what release I was on, get rid of this one and got back to a functional firefox that moves in realtime. I already did all the reset and etc.... I just want to go back to the speed I had. This halting , hanging up misery of a browzer is Sad. I have had firefox for years and always recommended it ..... BUT NOT ANY MORE. I agree with the other poster ... there should be a rollback feature. Peoples time has value and right now FireFox is sucking the value down a rabbit hole.

I need to reinstall OS X, will Time Machine recognise my backup drive?

Due to permissions problems I need to reinstall my OS. Will my backup drive still be recognised by my MacBook Pro after a fresh install? Also will the permissions problems simply still be there if I restore using Time Machine?

The reason I checked permissions in the first place was because a program was not opening (Limewire). The dock icon would bounce once then nothing.
You need to find out why that is. Reinstalling your entire OS is vast overkill, and probably won't help anyway. The simplest solution might be to re-download and reinstall it. If that doesn't help, your best bet might be to first search for Limewire in the +Using Leopard+ forum to see if anybody else has had the same problem. If not, post it there, with as much detail as you can.
Anti virus software shows no viruses
There are no Mac viruses. None. Most Mac users don't run any anti-virus software. Most of the anti-virus software, especially the stuff you pay for, is worse than a virus!
Some folks do run it, to keep from passing Windoze viruses they might get on to their PC friends. The free ClamXav is most often recommended here by those who know about such things, and they say it's the least obnoxious. Do a search for virus in the +Using Leopard+ forum, and read some of the many threads.

I downloaded CS2 from Adobe site but when I run the program I get an error message: Your Adobe Photoshop user name, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue. You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

With Windows 7 I have completely deleted anything that was associated with Apple, Help, Support, you name it. It was verified nothing Apple. Reboot took place. I reinstalled iTunes per instructions and once again I got the following:

I've installed iTunes 10.6 on my Windows 7 machine. Everytime I start it I get this message: iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes.
Reinstalling iTunes made no difference.
So I found this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299 and updated the registry like it said and it still didn't work but it also had the effect of making my CD drive no longer work for anything, including playing movies. Before following those instructions I could read and write cds using Windows Media player. Fortunately, I had backed up my registry leaf and restored it.
So I've been trying to figure out how to burn a cd from iTunes for close to two months now with no luck. Does anybody know how to get rid of the above error message?

Needed to reinstall all software

Over the past month I have had repeated problems with my 18/12 old BB Curve. Lots of exception errors and "white screen of death". Reinstalling operating system worked for 1-2 weeks but then problem restarted. If a program crashes on startup - specifically when it is
trying to initialize fonts - then in
almost all cases it is a corrupt font. Remove all non-system
fonts and try to launch flash again.
If it starts up then you will need to reinstall each font,
start up flash to see if it is the one in
suspect.

My HD needs to be Repaired every month. Is this normal?

I joined the Apple family in February 2012 with the purchase of my MacBook Pro 15". The MBP has been working absolutely wonderfully and confirms why I gave up on Windows and PCs. The only "fly in the soup" has been that I must run Repair Disk at least once a month due to errors found when I verify my HDD.
Is this normal maintenance or not? If it is not then why do I need to do it so often? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

You may notice some "Incorrect size for file tempnumber" alerts when you attempt to verify or repair a volume using Disk Utility or fsck_hfs with the "-l" option. You can safely ignore these alerts for any "tempnumber" files.
For example, you might see something like this:
Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Incorrect size for file temp420595
(It should be 0 instead of 84538)
Incorrect size for file temp468627
(It should be 0 instead of 16464)
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
If this happens, use fsck in single user mode, or start up your computer from a different volume before verifying or repairing.
Advanced: This issue can happen because the on-disk size for truncated open-unlinked files doesn't get updated before you start a live verification. The presence of these files doesn't cause an issue because their in-memory size is correct. These files are deleted as soon as they are closed. If your computer does not shut down normally, they will be deleted during the next startup.
