Need to reinstall system onTecra M3

Due to a persistent Volume Bitmap error, I'm going to need to reinstall XP.
(Reconditioned laptop => no recovery media & restore partition deleted).
I need the install order for the drivers.
(I found the Toshiba Application installer in C:\TOSAPINS and copied that folder to external HD.)
It's a Tecra M3-S636, Part # PTM30U-0J0017

I would get the driver and utilities from here, since many have probably changed.
Install the chipset software followed by the display driver prior to any other drivers. Install the Common Modules before any other Toshiba utilities. I have attached the suggested installation order for the European equivalent of your model.

I have been waiting for an answer from Apple support, in vain. Does anyone here know how to reinstall the system software if you don't have the disks, and the App Store says "downloaded?"
Or do I have to wait until Apple somehow wakes up and resets my purchase?

There are no longer any system disks, everything is downloadable now. The installer deletes itself after a successful install, so you need to save a copy before using it.
If you need to reinstall OS X you now use OS X Recovery.

If you need to upgrade another Mac you own, then log into the Mac App Store on that Mac and download the installer to that Mac from the Purchases pane.

Need to reinstall 'System Preferences'

Hey there,
Not entirely sure whether this is the right/best forum to come to, but I have a bit of a dilemma in that 'System
Preferences' seems to have somehow vanished from my computer. This means that I can not change my wallpaper or screensaver, change my sound and screen options, etc, etc.
Was wondering if someone out there could let me know if there is anyway that I can install this application back onto my laptop without having to reinstall the whole Operating System (which would cause me to lose 20GB worth of MP3s and various other programs and data seeing as I have no other machine to back them up on)??
If not, are there any other alternatives??

To repair the drive do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.
There is an option in Archive and Install to preserve the user folder and network settings. This will transfer your user folder and network settings to the newly installed system. All applications in the Applications folder are also preserved. The remainder of the old system is archived to a Previous System Folder located at the root directory of the hard drive. Once you determine you don't need anything else transferred from the old system you can trash the PSF.

I need to reinstall system drivers but have no trackpad/keyboard to do so!!

i have a MacBook Pro and am using mac osx 10.5.4 and win xp pro with sp3
basically, i installed parallels and had problems accessing the internet via win xp (in bootcamp mode)
so i ended up uninstalling all drivers for window to rediscover the system hardware and hopefully help get access working - i have done this many times on pc's (especially just reinstalling the network adapters). i didn't realise that apple installs the drivers for the trackpad and keyboard as thought they are usb connected devices and so when i rebooted win xp again it started installing the driver for the intel cpu first of all - it got to the "continue anyway" window when it doesn't recognise the certificate but i had no mouse or keyboard to click to go ahead. the thing that messed it all up is uninstalling the usb port drivers. win xp is not choosing to reinstall them first of all and even if it did it might require me to give input.
so i am wondering if i can manually copy the drivers to the right place on the bootcamp drive by copying them through my mac desktop (i have access to the drive using paragon ntfs software) or can i edit a file to fool win xp into thinking the drivers are already reinstalled or so that it installs them fully unattended????
i desperately want to get control of my bootcamp install again because i have painstakingly installed tons of my games, securified the system and configured it alot and really am reluctant to reinstall fresh again

That means it can find the Hard Drive, or can't find the things needed for booting.
See if DU even sees it.
"Try Disk Utility

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.

You've lost me on why you need to reinstall Tiger, when you already have all the files you wanted (which means Tiger worked perfectly fine). If you want to upgrade to Leopard, that's a different issue: your Mac needs to meet the minimum system requirements for that, which you can easily determine.
If you just want to get a replacement set of Tiger install discs, you can try calling AppleCare and see if they're able to send you a replacement set, and if not, you'll have to buy a new set yourself. You can get them on eBay, Craigslist, and HardCore Mac (http://store.yahoo.com/hardcoremac/), although they sell it for ridiculous prices.

Just to clarify - in terms of backing up one set of these, would that just be so I had it on disk and didn't need to re-download from Adobe if the installation got corrupted somehow? Or do I need a backup for some other reason?

So recently my computer has been having some trouble and I have found what was causing it and put a stop to it, but now apparently I need to update my itunes, but to do so I need to reinstall Itunes, but before that I can do that, I need to change my path to my Itunes which I can't find anywhere. I'm a person who can't exsactly with music or my books which are on there. I would Put them on my Phone but my memorys full with documents from my writing. Please please help me out.

I have a very large iPhoto library and now need to reinstall my system. I dodn't want to loose the library but how can I make a save backup that I can import later again?

Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. The disk should be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) This will make a copy on that disk.
Test this to make sure it works. Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and open the copied Library.

Yes the original Install Discs can be replaced for a nominal fee. Call AppleCare, you will need a credit card and the serial number of the machine. You can use the AppleCare Contact Info for the phone number on your part of the planet.
