Need to reinstall Vista but key is missing

I have a machine with vista corrupted on it and it needs to be reinstalled unfortunately 4 letters off the key have rubbed away, what can I do about this?

Hi - I have the same problem, the product key on the sticker on the base of my machine has become mostly rubbed off. I want to install a Windows 7 upgrade for my Vista system. Surely the installation will ask for my product key at some stage? Maybe I'm out of date...last Windows OS update I did was on an old machine going from 95 to 98 and that definitely needed the key to be input. Anyway, any help greatly appreciated.

i need to reinstall lion but it asks for my apple id and password, which then says this is not the apple id that purchased lion and therefore will not allow me to reinstall. help what can I do?

is it possible to install Snow lepoard instead? I have the operating disks for snow leapoard although when I put the disk in, and tried to start up from the disk, it came up with a black screen and jumbled writing telling me to restart, which I did, although it did the same thing.

I need to reinstall lion but the control-r does not work

My Macbook is about 3.5 years old and runs with Lion. The System Preferences froze what in the process of changing the decktop wall paper. So I forced quit and repaired permissions/rebooted. That did not clear up the problem and I tried Verify Disk. The result showed that the is a HD corruption and I need to reinstall an O/S before I can repair the disk with the Disk Unitlites.
However, I purchased Lion through the App Store and the instructions state that I need to press Control-R to get the Apple menu that will start the process. ("OS X Lion includes a built in set of utilities in the Recovery HD. Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R), and keep holding them until the Apple icon appears, indicating that your Mac is starting up.") This doesn't work but I wonder if that means hold these keys down WHILE or AFTER the restart happens.

Control was a brain freeze... I meant command.... Bygones.
I did get it working and Lion is now reinstalling. The time estimate started at five hours but it's, thankfully, going faster than that.

Sorry, was thinking of something else. Do you have access to an external drive or a flash drive. It has to be large enough to hold the library and the apps. Applications should be in a folder called Mobile Applications as a sub folder of iTunes. If you have had your library there, that is where you should find it all.

Make a backup of your media and other important files.
Just to be safe, make a backup of your entire iTunes directory.
Restore computer or do whatever it is you need to do.
Restore your media and other important documents.
Install iTunes.
Try using search next time... this gets asked way too frequently.

AppleWorks is on the disks that came with your iBook G4, it just may not be easy to find. Apple has written two articles, Knowledge Base article 300316 on installing AppleWorks 6 & Knowledge Base article 61802 on restoring the software than came with your Mac.

I need to reinstall itunes, but I want to keep my songs ticked and my playlists, is there a way to do this?

Long story short, itunes says I need to reinstall it in order to get audible books to work.
I would like to know if there is a way to do this without losing my ticks (when I've moved itunes before it just ticked everything) and playlists?
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, as if itunes does retick everything, it will mean a lot of tedious sorting for me.
Also when I reinstall will I have to have this itunes 11 thing, which I made the mistake of updating my sister's itunes to on the other PC?

I just ordered my recovery discs from Toshiba online... I need to reinstall Windows Vista to its default settings to get my laptop back in working order. I'm new to this process and I'm not sure what I need to do...? Do I have to wipe clean the hard drive FIRST? If so, how do I do that?

That is not a requirement. If your CS5 is an Upgrade all you need to install and activate it is your CS5 serial and the serial number of you product that your upgrading. That product does not have to be installed. If It is installed you would not need to enter its serial when you install CS5 and activate it. If it is not installed you need to enter its serial during the install and activation of CS5.

Wondering waht to do if i need to reinstall osx but

I am curious what my next action should be if i need a new copy of the restore disk for my Macbook and also my Powerbook G4 (800MHz) machines. I need to reinstall the operating system because my brother is in Iraq @ war and i cannot get in contact with him to get my admin passwords at all. I cant update any of my software at all without these pw's and i really need to either find a way to retrieve the pw's or reinstlal osx.
Im also having a problem with the camera built into my Macbook, for some reason im getting just a blank green screen when i attempt to take a snapshot. Would this be from not being able to update my software because of the pw issue?

With regard to the information below the recovery discs were made when the laptop was new and they won’t work now. How will these discs that can be ordered differ from the ones that were made? The laptop was not a refurbished model.
No offence, but free discs with a $25 delivery charge are not really free. Besides, I am currently traveling in Brazil and it would not be practical to have discs sent here, especially if they did not work. If they are free where can I find a free download? Or, what can a local tech shop do to enable me to install my Windows 7 Professional which I purchased from the Microsoft Store?
