Need to render all the time - help!

Hi everyone,
I just received a lot of footage from a director to edit. They're all quicktime files, but the format is "Apple Photo - JPEG, 320 x 240)". Everytime I drag a clip to the timeline, it goes red on me and I need to render it. I can't do this for a whole movie...anyone know how I can get around this?

Thanks for the quick reply...someone posted earlier about sneaking around this by creating a multiclip sequence, which for some reason you can drag clips to without then having to render them. I'm prepared to use this method...unless it's going to come back to bite me later for some weird reason? Any thoughts?

This sounds like it is about Window positions.
iChat has Default places for Incoming Invites.
Video is always top Center of your Screen
Audio and Text chats are Upper right with the Audio slightly lower than Text Chats.
Secondary invites are sort of Stacked like when you open multiple files from the same App.
Your outgoing Windows are "Remembered" as to where the last one was when you used it.
This can be an issue if you use your Mac with a second display and turn Off Mirroring.
You windows can get "left" on the other screen.
Go to System Preferences > Displays and turn On Mirroring and the windows should come back to one Screen/display.
If this does not help go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete (Drag to Trash) com.apple.ichat.plist and restart iChat.
Unfortunately you will need to reset any iChat Preferences you have changed from defaults.

Why only sometimes does movies on Apple Tv show the buy option, I need it there all the time?

Two reasons:
The movie companies control what Apple can sell/rent - sometimes they simply change it to purchase only or rental only.
Secondly, if your Settings for Itunes store are set to HD sometimes you won't see an option to purchase or even teh movie at all if it's only available in SD.
There are also sometimes discrepancies between iTunes on computer and AppleTV implying the stores work slightly differently or have different connections. Check if it's available in iTunes.

Mail and Safari still freeze all the time-help

Even with the latest Mavericks updates, Apple mail and Safari freeze contstantly to the point that I can't send email or use Safari. I had after the initial mavericks release gotten mail to function by shutting off 2 Gmail accounts I had on my MacPro. After the update that supposedly fixed the Gmail issues, I turned on my Gmail accounts and Mail started freezing almost immediately on startup. Was able to get in and shut the accounts don again, but Mail keeps freezing. I even removed the Gmail accounts from Mail prefs, but that didn't help either. I can usually get Mail to launch and for the most part can read email, but if I try to respond, once i type and email and try to send, Mail freezes and I have to force quit. Once Mail hangs Safari hangs shortly thereafter or if it's not even launched I can't launch.
I have been using macs for a long time and have never had such a bad time with an upgrade. Have tried most of the solutions posted, and am baffled as to how to make things work.
Any suggestions welcome.

Does the WD SmartWare needs to run all the time?

Hi. I use WD SmartWare (not Pro, just the free version) to do my backups to WD My Cloud. I also use WD Quick View, which is running at all times. WD SmartWare is set up to continuous back up (i.e. monitoring my drives and copying files over when new files are added etc.). Does it have to be running all the time for that or maybe WD Quick View controls the backups somehow? If SmartWare needs to run at all times, is there any way of minimizing it to system tray rather than to the taskbar? It's really annoying that the icon just sits there... I like my taskbar to be tidy! Thanks

Smartware will run continuously in the background as a service, but no the app GUI itself doesn't need to be open all the time. Once installed it will set itself up to do that, so you only need to open the actual app GUI if you want to start/edit./stop the configuration for the backup itself. Your taskbar can be nice and tidy

My 2nd generation iPod touch keeps shutting off and I would need to restart all the time. Can apple still do anything about it even though it's a very old iPod touch?

I've had my iPod touch for a really long time and it recently starts to shut off or freezes all the time. There is always batteries in it and I am getting annoyed by restarting it all the time. Multiclip in Mpeg4 = render all the time!

Hi everyone.
I am running a multiclip session.
All the files are from a flip ultra HD which gives me an mpeg 4 format and they need to be synced with a song.
No problem to sync...
However...
I have 5 angles on the band... and this is a nightmare...
Each time I want to edit/cut and change the angle... i have to render... which makes it impossible to work with.
I kind of sense that the format might be wrong...
any ideas???

You can't edit with MPEG 4 in Final Cut Pro without loads of hassle. It is a delivery codec.
Final Cut Pro works best with the codecs listed in its Easy Setup menu.
What you need to do is use Log & Transfer from the File menu and transcode to ProRes.
Read chapter 6 of [this document|http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/FCP6HD_and_BroadcastFormats.pdf], the AVCHD workflow is described there in detail.
If you have already copied your source footage from the camera card via the Finder, you can use Compressor or QuickTime Player to transcode. Bring the result into FCP.

Transitions won't render all the time

When publishing my finished Captivate file, sometimes the transitions that I selected won't render. Or some will render and others won't. In order to fix it, I have to open my project, and go to each slide that needs a transition, change the transition to No Transition, then back to Fade, or whatever transition I was using. Then when I publish the file, I keep my fingers and toes crossed because it might or might not render them all. Is there a fix on the way to ensure that transitions are not ignored when rendering?

CPUZ REPORTING FULL SPEED ALL THE TIME, help ?

I have cpuz 1.52.2, its constantly reporting that my cpu is running at full speed, it didnt used to be like this, and ive not even been doing anything at all in the bios for months, so i know its not the bios to blame.
I have a dual boot system, with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and windows xp pro.
As i say, i cant remember seeing this issue happen before, so i dont know whats the cause, ive even tried lowering the power saving levels in windows control panel, but that dont appear to do anything either, unless iam doing it the wrong way.
Can someone help me please as i have this vision in my mind that with my overclocked cpu running at full speed constantly that its not doing it any good.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yup, I'm starting to think this is just one of those things and I need to swap for something with passive cooling. The mac fans seem to be fine although there have been moments when they decide to have a mad minute or two. I think the card next to the graphics card (digidesign core card) is not going to help. Was previously pretty acceptable at normal monitoring levels with the 5200 Nvidia but now you can hear the machine over conversation levels which is tedious. Was thinking about moving the machine to another room or get a quiet rack to house everything but it might be easier to use the cash for a Magma chassic and use my Powerbook. Or stop using Protools and go for Logic? lol! .....
So, anyone want to swap an X800 for a 9600? Ebay, here we come ...

Why do I have to render all the time?

This just started, never had this problem before. Everytime I make a small edit/corrrection/level change etc. I have to render the audio.Otherwise I get that beep sound on the unrendered audio portions.
Why is this. I was before able to edit and not having to render every second.

Glad to help. Note that audio filters added to a clip will add the equivalent of additional tracks. Some filters add the equiv. of one track, others add more.
IOW, you could have realtime audio playback set for 4 tracks, only have four tracks in the timeline, but still hear that annoying beep-beep-beep as the TL plays back through clips with filters added. Simply make the realtime audio tracks playback number larger by one or two tracks at a time until the beeps go away.
Also note that you add more tracks of real time audio playback at the expense of RT video playback. Many editors will edit video first, until video is locked or nearly locked, then add more tracks of realtime audio playback before they start working on the audio. Then change the number back to 4 or 6, or whatever, after the audio work is finished.

Everytime I put a clip on the timeline it makes me render,even though it plays the clip fine in the preview window when double clicked. The timeline is dv pal 25fps and the clips are 1920x1080 25p progressive (which are .mov shot with the Canon 7D). It not makes me render when I drop the files in but also when I move them slightly or really just do anything.
I saw in the sequence settings there is no setting for 1920x1080 so do I need to change project settings or what? This is incredibly frustrating.

I guess you missed that part of the user's manual; ANYTIME you put clips in the Timeline that do not match the Sequence settings, you WILL have to render. Rendering conforms the video to match the Sequence settings so it will play properly.

Itunes needs to install all the time.

ever since i updated my itunes to the newest version every time i try to open it, it says that it needs to install after it installs it asks me to restart my computer. I restart and try to open it again and it prompts to install it again. What is going on?

Phone really slow and needing hard reset all the time now.

I recently updated my Droid Razr Maxx HD to the latest OTA. Since then it has become very slow and unstable. Every two or three days I will have to perform a hard reset. Going to the apps page is fine sometimes then other times it takes forever to load. Has anyone else had problems like this and if so have you been able to fix it?

Update are meant to improve your device gabriellundy! I know how frustrating it must be to have to complete a hard reset on your phone multiple times. Have you tried running your phone on safe mode with out any applications? I would recommend to try this to determine if a third party app is causing issues to your device. Go to the iTunes preferences, go to the Store tab and check to see if the Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases. Also check to see if any purchases are hidden as well.
