Need to repair HD before installing mavericks HELP !!

Dear all,
I have a perfectly working MacBook Air, built 2012 with 256 GB.
Mountain Lion does a great job, but I want to progress to Mavericks.
As advised, I ran disk Utility system check and this came up at veryfying disk:
Volume bitmap needs minor repair for orphaned blocks
Invalid Volume free block count
The Volme MA_HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired
As advised I restart holding the command-R combo after which my computer starts to connect to the Internet searching for the boot-tool. then after about 30 seconds, I get a warining sign with apple.com/support - 1007F.
When I am on another network, the Internet logo keeps spinning for 20 minutes and then I get a -2007F failure.
I can not repair my disk it seems, although all is working fien.
Quickly made a Time Machine backup, but what can i do next ?
thanks for your help !!

Same thing: Internet logo spinning for 10 seconds, then apple.com/support -100F.
In the meantime the computer works perfect under Mountain Lion.

Scanning in both HP Officejet 7210 and Samsung printer - the document scans but no file is generated - any ideas how to fix this?  (It worked fine before installing Mavericks)

PS: forgot to mention: if your printer is on your wifi network, you'll have to enter your wifi password on the printer to connect it to the network before Printers & Scanners will see it.
Sometimes a reset of the wifi system is needed too. A full set of directions would be:
    Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple
resist the temptation to install any printer manufacturer apps in the future.

    Hello,
don't worry, I for my part I have on my computer more of these earlierer (outdated in some cases) Adobe programs, to see the difference or for some other reasons. Try them out for a while and then decide, whether you need the both.

  • Do I need to backup harddrives before install lion

Do I need to backup hardrives before installing lion, on mac-pro.  I have tons of pictures and video, and 2 harddrives, i have some on external hard drive, but not current stuff, and wanting to upgrade to Lion.  Please advise.  I am sure most are going to say back up, back up.  I guess I want to know if I will lose pics, documents, mail, if I upgrade.

    >Do I need to backup hardrives before installing lion, on mac-pro. \
That's a bit like asking, do I need to wear seatbelts? Seriously if you value your data, you need to backup your data, not just when installing Lion, but when installing anything, when making changes to your data, when renaming data.  Backing up is not an option, it is a must in the computing world.  See my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    >I guess I want to know if I will lose pics, documents, mail, if I upgrade.
You could, in fact in one thread, someone backed up with Time Machine, and still lost pics because they didn't ensure their Time Machine had in fact backed up the pictures they wanted.  A clone backup is the only backup that ensures everything is backed up.  Anything can be lost in an upgrade too.  See what I have to say about other Lion pitfalls:*

  • Do I absolutely need to back up my computer before installing mavericks?

    Hi,
I want to install Mavericks, but currently do not have a proper backup system in place. Is it absolutely necessary to back up my rMBP before installing?
I understand there is a risk in not backing up, but have there been many users experiencing loss of data after installation?

    I'll be more blunt.
Not only is not related to Mavericks, not is it related installing software.
If you have anything of value on your computer, it is essential to have a regular backup system in place.
All storage devices ultimately fail if used for a long enough time. It can happen at anytime. It can also happen to a backup drive.
Many drives will be "junked" before they fail, but some will die early.
Your backup plan must account for that.

  • Already have Support Software v5.0 installed, do I need to uninstall it before installing SS v5.1? Please help!

    as title.

    thanks for reply.
anyway, I uninstall the older version before installing the new. for those who having trouble uninstalling Windows software try Fix it software from microsoft (thank rtheb's post).
one thing I didn't mention is that I did a fresh win8 install using boot camp assistant, but at that time the latest boot camp support services available was v4.0 which is not supposed to support win8.
later, when boot camp support services v5.0 final was released, I installed it on top of v4.0 (i.e. without uninstalling v4.0). I couldn't remember if I got a error message for that, but the computer seemed running ok except that I got a error message when uninstalling boot camp support services v5.0 this time.

  • 10.7.5 Missing Recovery HD, Need to repair permissions before upgrade?

I ran Disk Utility on my sluggish MBP and was informed that the disk permissions (and the disk?) need to be repaired.
I inherited this computer, and used CCC to migrate from my old computer with a clone.  Now, it appears the Recovery HD is missing.
I did a bit of research, and it seems installing Mavericks on top of all these issues is not advised until I repair the permissions using the present OS, but I do not have access to a similar computer running Lion in order to build a Recovery HD on an external drive.
Can someone help me to understand the best path to take to repair the permissions?  (I would prefer to stay w/ 10.7.5 but thought moving to the new OS would repair permissions and so became open to that.  It is an older machine (c.2009) so I would prefer to stay with what has up until now been working, but am open to any feasible solutions, including Mavericks.)
    Thank you!

The Internet Recovery and Recovery HD partition are the same thing?
Closer to the point: What do I do now?
I am DL Mavericks and am going to create an external boot drive, then will boot to that and attempt to repair the disk, then will install Mavericks on top of that (if need be.)

  • Update iPhoto '09 before installing Maverick?

I have iPhoto '09 and have seen enough discussions that tell me I need to be careful before proceeding with a Maverick update.
I actually asked in the Apple Store but the person didn't seem to sure.
Do I install Maverick and let it update iPhoto?
Or do I need to bring iPhoto current first and then install Maverick.
Are there any special precautions (other than backing up my files) that I need to take or anything to be aware of?
    Thanks...
    Chrystal

Are there any special precautions (other than backing up my files) that I need to take or anything to be aware of?
Make a full backup of your computer before upgrading to Mavericks, not only backup your documents and data. A bootable clone of your system on an external drive, or a full Time Machine Backup. This way, you you can revert to the previous state, if something should go wrong.
Do I install Maverick and let it update iPhoto?
Or do I need to bring iPhoto current first and then install Maverick.
    Neither.
Your current version will not run without problems on Mavericks, and the new iPhoto 9.5.1 will not run on your current version.
So, while still running iPhoto '09, repair your iPhoto library. This will make it safer to upgrade the library to to iPhoto 9.5.1 format.
Then install upgrade to Mavericks, and now you can buy iPhoto '11 from the AppStore. Then double-click your library to open it in iPhoto '11.
To repair your iPhoto library launch iPhoto with the key combination option-command held down and use the library first aid panel to repair the database.

  • Do I need start the database before installing Oracle 9iAS portal?

I found the Oracle white paper which talks about installing
Oracle8i EE and Oracle 9iAS portal on windows 2000. Based this
document, after Oracle 8i installaion but before installing
Oracle 8.1.7.1.1 path, all the Oracle database related services
startup type have been changed to 'Manual'.
Based on my understanding, there are some objects will be
created in this database during the installation of 9iAS portal
repository. But this oracle white paper didn't say that I need
have the database ruuning during the 9iAS installation. Do I
need to start the database before installing 9iAS?
    Thanks

    hi,
Even i am new to oracle application server and had the same doubt that you have.
When you install Application Server there would be two tiers installed, application tier and middle tier, these tiers can be running from the same machine or different machines.
These tiers will have a meta data repository to store application server related data, this database will be installed along with application server.
It is upto you to install "oracle database 10gR2 " before or after installaion of application server, this will be an independent database which will have its own home, but after this installation you will have three homes, ex: infra_home,mid_home and 10gR2_home.
by default oracle_home is set to the last installation that happens so if you install the database 10gR2 after installing application server it will point to 10gR2_home, but if you install 10gR2 before and application server later then the oracle home will be infra_home(if both the middle tier and infratier are on the same machine)
you can always change the oracle home by using set ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home( in windows)
    or export ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home (in unix)
    hope this helps....
    regards

  • I am running Mac OS X and need to back up before installing Snow Leopard , can I back up to my Time Capsule?

I am running Mac OS X currently and need to upgrade to Snow Leopard.  First I need to back up my computer.  I have a Time Capsule that automaticallyt backs up Snow Leopard and above but do not have Time Machine on this system.  How can I back up what I an currently running?

Do I download these?  I am not particularly good at this, so any help would be great.  What I know now is that it is recommended to back up current comuter before installing snow leopard, but I have no idea how to do this.  I know I can go from 10.4.11 directly to Snow Leopard but am afraid I will lose data.

  • Do individual Adobe products need to be uninstalled before installing creative cloud?

I am deploying user licenses to several users in a department where a lot of individual Adobe products are installed and already in use. Will these individual products need to be uninstalled before using or installing Adobe Creative Cloud?

    U-96,
When you install different versions, you should always do so in order from first to last. With a different order, you will (almost certainly) overwrite crucial files with older versions.

  • My HP Photosmart Printer/Scanner will not scan since installing Maverick help

Since installing Maverick my HP printer/scanner will not scan documents print or save them, how can I fix this?

this worked for my HP printer/scanner:
    Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
if your printer is there in the column on the left:
    control-click on your printer
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
if your printer is not in the column on the left, go to the next step.
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
if you connect to your printer/scanner via wifi, reset the wifi system:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
if you do not connect via wifi, go to the next step
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple. If it won't, then try going to the HP website and there may be a new software package for your printer that is compatible with Mavericks. Download and install it.
