Need to replace HD + (possibly) battery

Hi -- I've got a MBP 4,1 (Early 2008) -- and the hard drive is starting to make pretty loud noises.  It coincided (at least I *think* it did) with a repair that the Apple Store did on a the case or housing that includles the trackpad & surrounds the keypad.  But I figure that's just a coincidence.
1.  At any rate, I've got a Fujitsu 200GB drive that came with the machine.  And though I've been pretty good about backing up my data, I think it may be time to replace the drive (I assume the symptoms are awful noises -- but maybe not?).  Specs on the current drive are at the end of this message.
Will this drive fit:
Western Digital 750GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136546
WD7500BPVT 750GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Also -- I don't understand the difference between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM.  I understand what RPM literally means -- but will either of these speeds work with my machine (a google search suggests so but I wasn't sure) or is my choice of harddrives confined to one particular speed?  I don't see any particular RPM spec for my current HD in the System Profiler.
2.  In addition, the system profiler suggests that the battery be "replace[d] soon".

Bump.
It's looking like one of these 2.5" SATA drives from OWC will fit:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
But I'm a bit confused over a particular speed is necessary or if one can use any RPM speed?
Wasn't sure if HD RPM is linked to memory (RAM) speed?
If someone can direct me toward what's possible for the OWC drivers in my Late 2008 Macbook Pro model 4,1,
I'd sure appreciate it :_
This one looks good:

  • Do I need to replace my iPod battery?

I've had my video iPod since Christmas of 2006. Earlier this year my laptop crashed so I've just now started using my iPod on a new one. Even after putting the new updates onto my iPod it still has pretty low battery life, even after charging for more than 4 hours. I dont think I can play songs for more than about 30 mins before the message saying that I need to recharge pops up even though the battery shows that it is still at least half charged. I can't play more than 5 videos without it cutting off completely. So do I need to install some old updates that I missed or do I need to send it in to have the battery replaced?

You need to go to an Apple store set up an appointment and speak to someone at the Genius Bar. Yes, it sounds like you need a battery replacement. These should be helpful.

The computer I'm working on will not recognize the HD. I've pulled the drive and it works showing the entire drive.
I think that I think that the MBR is corrupted. I've tryed to us the XP professional CD but can't get past the need for a password. I thought I could remove the Cmos battery to bypass the lock that may be in the Cmos.

  • HT4623 My 5.1.1. 28.6 Gb IPad crashes about every 5 minutes or so it doesn't matter what I am doing, whether it is fully charged, plugged in or needing a charge.  It is the first version, is it possible I need to replace it?

I have had my iPad for several years and recently it has started crashing for no reason, I am wondering if I need to replace it of if there is a fix. It doesn't matter if it has a full charge or if the charge is low. I have noticed that the battery does not hold a charge for very long now so maybe the battery is going bad? Any thoughts?

It's possible that the battery needs to be replaced. If you bought one of the original iPads, it could be close to four years old now so the battery might be bad.
Have you tried any basic troubleshooting steps? Sometimes closing Apps and resetting the device can help. Clearing Safari wouldn't be a bad idea either.
    Go to Settings>Safari>Cookies and Data.
In order to close all apps, Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Apple has has a battery replacement policy that you can look into. I would make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask a Genius to look at your iPad and see if he/she can recommend something different or maybe even restore the device for you to get it back to good running condition again.

  • My iphone 4s is over 2 years old and I need to replace the battery. How much will this cost at an Apple store?

I have an iphone 4s that is  over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a  charge for an acceptable length of time.  Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

    graciebethgrant wrote:
Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
    Thanks!
So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done.

  • I don't have phone, but the TV says I need to replace battery backup for phone?!?!?!

    Hello,
For three years, we've had Verizon Fios Internet and TV.  We've never had a phone.
Today, the contraption Verizon plugged in the wall (sadly, I'm not really sure what it is, and had forgotten it existed until today as it's tucked behind some furniture) started beeping and the replace battery indicator light is on.  Furthermore, when I turn on TV, I am greeted with this message:
    My questions are:
    (1) If I don't have phone service, why would I even have a battery backup (much less need to replace it) to allow phone service during power outages?
    (2) Since I have only internet and TV, can I safely go without replacing this battery?
    (3) If the answer to #2 is yes, then how do I get the thing in the wall to stop beeping every 30 minutes?
Thank you in advance to any responses.

You can unplug the battery in your optical network terminal (ONT) and the message needing to replace the battery will go away.  Verizon customer service did confirm the battery is only for phone service when power is off.
I was only able to find 3 links on the alarm / battery backup.  It looks like they never thought about people who did not want the phone feature and to silence the beeping with the battery removed?
I don't know how frequently my unit beeps, but I don't normally hear it because it is in my garage.  I don't know if it has a pattern to when it beeps; but when I'm in the garage, I sometimes hear a single loud beep for about 1 second.
I imagine the battery must enable the laser to function when the power is off besides supply power to the copper phone lines in your house for a line powered phone.  I would assume then that if one had a UPS to power the computer and router and a good battery in the BBU; then one could have an internet when the power is off too?  Verizon user manuals don't mention this, so it might not work?

  • Do I need to replace my battery? Or how do I fix this solution?

My iPod 4th generation shows that it is charging when I plug it in. When I unplug from full charge, and I use it. 5 minutes later, or even less, it shows that it goes down to 20% Also, sometimes when I plug in my iPod, it shows that it is charging, then all of a sudden it goes down to red charge (20% charge). Do I need to replace my battery because it is going bad? Or how do I fix this solution?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Maybe only a bad battery or maybe somethng else

I have 2010 macbook white 13 inch and need a replacement battery - where can i find the specs needed for the replacement?

The model 6,1 Late 2009 and the model 7,1 Mid 2010 use an A1331 battery. You can replace it yourself or have Apple do it for you for $129. If you need it quickly make sure you order it from a U. S. seller. Orders from China can take two or three weeks.

Here's installation instructions. You'll need a Tri Wing Y1 screwdriver in addition to the usual #00 Phillips screwdriver.

  • How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it.
