Push the reset button down for about 5-7 seconds until the led blinks rapidly. This is a hard rest and the PW should be back to default....public.

  • Why do I need to reset Airport Express each time?

    Hi all,
I am using Airport Express for streaming music. I am using BT wireless hub for internet without any problem. AE is connected to the BT Hub. Point is, each time I start my MacBook Pro or iMac, iTunes doesn't find the AE, nor does the Airport Utility. When I do a soft reset of my AE, the problem is resolved, I can stream music, until I shut down the computer, then next time I am facing the same problem. Using latest OS versions on iMac and MacBook Pro. Any ideas? Thanks.

The AirPort Express has no capability to remember multiple networks, so it must be reset whenever you change locations.

  • Resetting AirPort Express

After resetting the AirPort Express the name of the router changed to default but to access the router I still need a password. How is this possible? Can any one explain this phenomenon to me? How can I by-pass this as I do not remember the password.

Hello SuhailK. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you need to reset the base station Administrator's password back to it's default, you just need to perform a "soft" reset; To reset the wireless password, you would need to either perform a "hard" or "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).

  • Have to reset Airport Express

    Hi,
My home wifi network using an Airport Express and MBP has been flawless; then I introduced an iPhone. Now I need to reset (unplug) the Express after my MBP leaves the network to get either my MBP or iPhone online. i.e. the MBP will recognize the network but can't connect, same with the iPhone. After resetting the Express, both connect fine. Any ideas on how to rectify this?

hi JMA8 and welcome to Discussions,
by unplugging the Airport Express is not really resetting the unit. Its considered a Power Cycle.
you might have to try this:

    hope this helps..

  • Do I need to have Airport Express to connect to other computers on our homer network?

Do I need to have Airport Express to connect to other computers on our homer network?

Not necessarily. You could use the "Create Network" feature of your MBP's built-in AirPort card to provide an Ad-hoc wireless network for local wireless-capable computers to connect to.

  • HT1515 which version of Airport Utility is needed for my Airport Express A1084????

How can I find out which version of Airport Utility is needed for my Airport Express A1084????

I have this issue, too. The problem with the advice from Saito_Chickara is that Mavericks (I'm on 10.9.2) does not allow you to run AirPort Utility 5.x. So for those of us on Mavericks, what can we do? I have yet to find a solution. This is really frustrating.

  • Why am i needing to reset airport extreme almost daily?

why am i needing to reset airport extreme almost daily? Is it just too old?

    Teresa,
You haven't provided any useful information so it's almost impossible to help you. If you are really running OS X 10.2.x as your profile states then you are posting in the wrong forum, this forum is for Intel based iMacs that began shipping with Tiger 10.4.x. Also you haven't stated what Airport Extreme you have, there have been many models over the years. Once you locate which AE you have I'd recommend posting in the appropriate AE forum and try to paint a clear picture of what is happening and also provide the verison of OS X you're using, the Mac model and ever the firmware version of the AE you have.  You can find the firmware version by running Airport Utility.

  • Reset airport express for each use.

I use the AE both for home to stream music, at the office to extend a network and while traveling to create wireless network in hotel rooms. Each time I have to reset the base station and basically start over. I use Leopard at home and Vista at work and travel. Is there something I can do to not have to go through the whole setup process each time? Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by you "have to reset the base station and basically start over", but you may find useful the ability to your AirPort Express to hold multiple "profiles". In AirPort Utility initiate a manual setup, then pull down the "Base Station" menu and select "Manage Profiles". You can then define a profile for each environment. You'll still have to restart your AirPort Express unit each time you need to switch profiles, but you won't have to re-enter any configuration settings.

  • When trying to reset airport express password, I've got an error code -16.

A friend of mine gives me an AirPort Express which I intend to use at home to connect it to an audio device in my living-room. I’ve already have a wireless network based on a Linksys router, so the idea is to extend my actual network.
As the Airport was used, it has already a password, which my friend does not remember.
After reading the user manual, I’ve achieve to get into the configuration window, after I’ve made all the modifications (including the device password), but when saving I’ve get an error code -16.
    Any help or advice?
PS: BTW, sorry for my English, it still needs improvement ;-)

First you cannot extend your linksys network with the apple expess. at least not in the typical definition of extending a network. you should first do a factory reset of the express to wipe out all prior settings.
you do this by unplugging the unit and holding down the reset button while you plug it back in. wait 10 to 15 seconds before releasing the reset button.
you'll then want to configure the airport express

  • Need help with Airport Express and so on.

Ok so my main problem before getting into what I need help with here is that our MacBooks and now my iPhone 6 plus isn't staying online. Keep getting booted off and then I either have to select the network again or it will eventually go back on. If anyone has a solution or so please feel free to answer that as well. I'm running on Roadrunner with a Netgear 600 wireless router and a motorola modem. Both of which I'll leave the link to below for a better look.
My Main Question: So I'm looking at a new wireless router mainly and possibly a new modem. I know Apple products are trustworthy but how good is the Airport Express and other Airport products. Also what is the Maximum speed and Maximum data speed for the cheapest express station and if anyone knows the speeds of the other devices it would be greatly appreciated.

DSL Router to Netgear 5-port Switch and I used the switch to connect to Airport Extreme, TV, Blue-Ray DVD player and DirecTV Receiver.
The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is a router so it will do what you need.
You need to reconfigure your setup. Connect the WAN port of the AEBS to the DSL router. Then connect the Netgear switch to one of the LAN ports on the AEBS. The AEBS will properly share the connection.

  • Can I set up a 2 (or 3) room audio system? I have iphone 3, iphone 4 and ipad 2 and need to know what hardware, if any, I need for this (airport express?, apple TV?) Also, would I use icloud or home sharing?

I need to know what hardware, if any, I need to do this (airport express?, apple TV?)
I simply want to send music from my itunes to 2 different rooms at the same time. Is it possible? I have iphone3, iphone4 and ipad2 if that helps.
Also, would I use icloud or home sharing? Sorry for the noob question, any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

The answer is not if you use iTunes.
The TC is NOT an iTunes server.. it is not a media device at all. It is a backup location for Time Machine.
You need a computer in the network which stores the iTunes library and you can then play it via the ipad.
A mini with a large USB drive plugged in will work fine.. it doesn't need to be new.. a couple of years old mini will work just as well.
As an extention to this, can we use multiple Airport expresses plugged into mutiple sound systems to simultaneously access different music from the same time capsule?
I am not sure.. there will be network limitations to this.
Look up how to use itunes in a network.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4620
You would do better perhaps posting the question in iTunes section.. if as I guess you are actually using iTunes.

  • Do i need to use airport express to extend my network to use AirTunes?

I use an AEBS connected to my cable modem and just bought the Airport Express just to be able to stream my iTunes music to a set of powered speakers conncted to it.
When I got into Airport Utility, the only options it provides is to Set up a new network, add to an existing network or replace an existing network.
I just to add to an existing network and it says Airport Express will be used to extend my network.
Now - is that how it's supposed to work? Does it have to extend my network in order to use Air Tunes? The reason I ask is that I remember reading on the forums that extended your network can slow it down....

Version 6.0 will not allow you to configure the Express to "Join a wireless network" if you have another AirPort providing the wireless signal.
If you want the Express to "join" the network, you will need to download and install the much more functional AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which was available on the same day as AirPort Utility 6.0.
Apparently, a number of users missed this.
Suggest that you keep both 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac and use the one that is most useful.
    That is NOT correct.
Version 6.0 will allow you to "Join a wireless network" if you have another Airport providing the wireless signal.
I have an Extreme provinding the wireless network and have 2 Express units Joining the network.
Here is a screen shot of version 6.0 and the Express settings.
You must have missed this in your settings.

  • Problem with factory resetting Airport Express

I am trying to do a hard factory reset my airport express. I want to reset it to the factory default so that I can change the settings so that it connects to my comcast wirless modem. I followed the instructions on the apple support site. I held the reset button will the device was unplugged and then plugged it in while still holding the reset button. I held it until the green light flashed four times. But the stupid thing will not reset at all. Just the same blinking orange light. No green light. And of course, non identifiable on airport admin utility. This is really frustrating. Anyone know how to solve this problem.
    Thanks

I have the exact problem described by AKAPLG. I've tried EVERYTHING with no good result.
    - My network does NOT show up in AirPort Utility (and even the old Airport Admin Utility)
    - Even after hard reset I can still see the old name of my network but am still unable to join it.
    - I've tried connecting directly with Ethernet to my MacBook Pro, but it is unclear what I'm supposed to do next, the manual doesn't mention this at all. When it's connected I do not see my AX in the AirPort Utility menu when I rescan.
    - The "Factory Reset" described by the booklet that came with the 802.11n device is inconsistent with what I see when I try it. I get a single green blink followed by a long solid yellow (sorry Amber) followed by blinking amber. I never see 4 green blinks, as described.
This is the worst Apple experience I've ever had. Period. Any more advice please before I take this POS back to the store and trade it for a punch in the ribs or a hot stick shoved in my eye?

  • Constantly needing to reset Airport Extreme

Hi! I have an Airport Extreme network set up in my office with an Airport Express acting as an extension. The Airport Express works for a day or so and then flashes amber the next day. I constantly need to unplug and plugin the Airport Express for it to work. If anyone has any tips, that would be great!

Seems to be the firmware update. This board is full of complaints. Hopefully, someone at Apple is working on a fix. It worked fine before this dumb update.
