I have a 2012 mac book pro can I use that to connect with firewire and load osx that way? and how woudl I do that?
    Thanks so much!

To what password are you referring? Do you mean your user account's admin password? Or do you mean the master password for File Vault or do you mean a Firmware Password?
    For an admin password:
    Forgot Your Account Password
    For Snow Leopard and earlier
Mac OS X 10.6- If you forget your administrator password
    For Lion/Mountain Lion
        Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
Or see Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password and
OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
If you cannot do the above then try this:
      1. Boot to Safe Mode by restarting and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-S keys until a black screen with white type appears.
      2. At the prompt, type the following commands pressing return after each command line:
         /sbin/fsck -yf
If you do not receive a "Filesystem OK" message then repeat this command until
you do.  If after seven tries you still do not receive a "Filesystem OK" message,
then the system is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
         mount -uw /
         cd /private/var/db/netinfo
         mv local.nidb local.old
         rm ../.AppleSetupDone
         shutdown -r now
The second-to-last command above will cause OS X to think that the operating system is newly installed, and when the new owner starts up the computer it will send him/her to the startup wizard where he/she can start a new user without reinstalling.
This last method does not actually change a password. It simply removes the user accounts and lets you create an initial admin account as if the computer were new out of the box.
How to reset the OS X password without a startup CD:
Reboot into Single-user Mode. Enter the following and press RETURN after each command line
       1. Type fsck -fy
       2. Type mount -uw /
       3. Type passwd <username>
I have never tried this method myself.

  • TS1543 my mac wont stop at single user it continues to root, how can i get to single user to enter info needed to reset password

I my mac wont recognise my password, i have tried to reset password using single user but my mac wont stop at single user it just continues to root, how do i get it to stop at single user so i can add info needed to reset password?

Are your sure that wasn't a Verbose boot (Cmd-V) you were trying? That would go on to a regular boot.
Try a PRAM Reset, then try the single user, Cmd-S, at the startup chime. For the PRAM Reset, hold down Option - Cmd - P - R all together until it chimes a total of three times, then let go to finish booting.

  • How to reset permission in recovery mode

Hi, i've OS X v10.7.3 and i have a problem with permission. So i want to reset it from recovery mode ( cmd + R on startup ). My problem is that when i start my mac holding cmd + R it goes directly to the internet recovery mode and it doesn't happear the chosse mode ( recovery or lion ). What can i do? can someone help me?

I'm not sure what happened with the repair permissions, if this is what you ran all night. Or why your desktop isn't what you expect.
I suggest you backup your system by using TIme Machine or one of the cloning softwares Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to an external drive. Then boot back into the Recovery HD and select the option to Reinstall Mac OS X. The reinstall will first redownload Lion then install it. You won't harm your data or applications as Lion will simply reinstall itself over itself. However, doing the backup prior to this will safeguard your data and apps. You won't need to migrate any data or apps as those are still on your system.

  • Hi there, I'm Medel and I'm currently on Saudi Arabia. I forgot my security questions' answers and need to reset it but I just added an alternate email a while ago. Can anyone help me how to reset it even if I don't have a recovery email registered?

Can anyone help me how to reset my security questions on my apple account? I forgot the answers and need to reset it. Please Help...

An alternate email is not used for resetting security questions, do you know if you have a rescue email address on your account ? If you do then follow steps 1 to 5 half-way down this page and you should get a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in Saudi Arabia to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699#S
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • IPad in recovery mode requires update?

About 3 weeks ago, some "friends" of mine put a lock on my iPad without telling me what it was. After several failed attempts, my iPad now displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I've never backed it up to a computer, because my computer has been broken since before I got my iPad. I've been at a friend's house this weekend, so I'm trying to fix my iPad. I put it into recovery mode like you're supposed to, but when I click on Restore, it says I need to update the software on my iPad in order to restore it. I've downloaded the update 4 or 5 times, and every time it gets finished, it pulls my iPad out of recovery mode and says I need to enter my password into the iPad in order to connect it to iTunes and install the update. Does anybody know how I can get around this? I can't find anybody with this same situation. Also, if worst comes to worst, will Apple be able to do anything with it? I don't care if they charge me or not- I'm sending my "friends" who did this the bill.

Something went wrong with the update and you are in Recovery Mode.
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • Need to reset password in Panther 10.3.9. Retail install disc won't mount.

I'm at the end of my wits here. I actually need access to Carbon Copy Cloner, but everytime I put in the password and click "clone" it says I entered in incorrectly.
I did this a while back with my Tiger, G4 PB. I believe the Tiger install disk will allow me to reset password (it won't with Panther).
Everytime I boot from the CD, I end up stuck in the blue screen.

TheRobotsCubicle, welcome, either you need to fill out your machines profile here or give us a little more info on your computer and any add-ons. In the mean time try resetting the PRAM.

  • Need to reset password, lost install disc

I have a wireless router, Model WRT54GS v7.  I moved recently, and I need to reset the password to connect wirelessly.  I've lost the install discs during my move.  What do I need to do?

The reason why the admin is no longer working as the router password because you might have setup a router password, not knowing, during the first time you setup your router...If you remember the router password when you first used your setup cd to install your router then enter that password else you need to reset your router and re-configure it...
To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link
Then adjust the Wireless Settings as suggested in the previous post...

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Then if necessary:
    See

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
