Need to resize photo to specific size in Photoshop Elements 11

I have a photo that is 1500 x 800 that I want to use in Facebook for the cover photo. The cover photo size is 851 x 315. In PSE Editor / Image / Resize, I change the 1500 to 851 but the height changes to 454.
Is there a way to get the height to 351?

OK-got the pixel size right. But file size is 320 kb and should be less than 100. It is a JPG file not PNG. I don't know what a PNG file is. I uploaded the picture to Facebook successfully but the photo was too large I believe.
Facebook says "To get the fastest load times for your Page, upload an sRGB JPG file that's 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall and less than 100 kilobytes. For images with your logo or text-based content, you may get a higher quality result by using a PNG file."

  • Urgent plz! Help resizing photos to specific size

Am another newbie with Windows XP with Elements v.4.0. Have been handed a project by husband to take some passport-type as well as portrait type photos of relatives from overseas & resize them to certain dimenions (ex: 2" x 2", or maybe even something in centimeters. (He keeps changing sizes on me!) The current photo size info showing up under photos in the Editor are varying between all 8 photos (ex: 5.12" x 3.413" (150 ppi)), etc. None of them have the same dimensions!
I have looked in the book & in HELP, but whatever I try to do, they look wierd & out of proportion (in EDITOR) after applying changes. I've also tried to just do it in the print dialog box, but the proportions are locked & if I change 1 (either width or height) the other 1 changes automatically & not to the size I want.
I just know that a program as advanced as this should have a way to do this with the photos not looking out of proportion when finished, but I can't seem to make it happen & would so appreciate any help given, as this is not the only time that I know I'll want to do this (I am heavy into scrapbooking-need I say more?!) Thanks so much in advance.

Hi Mark, I'm trying to use the crop tool, but the problem is, none of the images are allowed to be cropped. (They are scans of passport/government-type pages with photos & official description & stamps on them. I have to leave the images just as they were sent to us in email, except that I need to change the size of each of them to 2" x 2" & have them turn out to look in proportion.
With your 2nd suggestion (in Crop tool set target dimensions, as well as set resolution to 240 or 300 ppi), are there additional steps after that??
I followed the steps just as you had outlined & then went to try to print. It brought up a dialog box which still showed under the print size box the (original) actual size of the photo.
Here's what else was in the dialog box:
    1) A warning saying: Image will print at less than 220 ppi at the selected size.
    2) SCALED PRINT SIZE BOX:
    Scale: 100%
    Height: 2 inches
Width: 2.907 (there's a chain lock attached between the height & width).
If I change the width box to 2" then it changes the height box to 2.907.
What am I doing wrong? I just know this should be way easier than it is appearing to me right now. Thanks again. Glenda
P.S. I forgot to tell you that I have 2 printers to choose from (if it makes any difference). Besides the Epson, I also have an HP Deskjet 990cse Pro Series.

I cannot open photo's stored in my i photo library to edit in Photoshop Elements.  Adobe comes up with the message program error. I use a Macbook Air.

No, that is done deliberately, since letting other programs poke around in the iphoto library is the fastest known way to corrupt it and make it wither up and die, along with your photos. If you want to use PSE with iphoto you have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto. Edit them, then save without changing the name or format and iphoto will remember your last saved edits + original, although you have to lose the edits to see the original again. You may need to set the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing to make this work.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in PSE, make all the changes of any sort that you like, save the file, and import it to iphoto as a new file.

Well, you can start with File>Picture Package. If that doesn't offer a layout that works, create a new file (file>new>blank file) the size of your paper at the  resolution you want, then copy paste your pictures into it and use the Move tool to position them.

Is it possible to move all my photos , Tags and folders in Photoshop Elements 5  from my Vista machine to my new Apple iMac desktop?

You will need to upgrade PSE in windows to at least PSE 9, then do a full backup using the organizer's backup command to a removable drive, then restore to the mac. The mac organizer can only understand windows catalogs from PSE 9 or later.
You can download a trial version here to get the catalog updated:

  • Resizing photos to file size.

Hi all, I'm trying to resize a pic to 10 k file size for use as an online avatar. Ideally I'd like to keep it around 100 by 135 pixels. In Windows this is very easy but in the amazingly overhyped and under-featured iphoto it appears to be well nigh impossible. Any ideas on how to do this for someone who desperately wants to stay in osx but increasingly finds App apps unfathomably obtuse? Thanks for your time.

Yep, been there done that but no joy. There's no mention of re-sizing a photo by file size in the help file and no ability to do so in Export. And to tell the truth, having to export to re-size is really clunky not to mention, somewhat erratic. I managed to get the file down to 8 kb by reducing it to 45 x 45 pixels but that's too small. My next size was around 105 x 140 and came in at 20 kb. I attempted to reduce the file size by reducing the photo size in stages down to 60 x 80 but the file size would increase rather than decrease. Any useful input?

  • A friend recommended Photoshop to me.  I need to resize photos.  The webiste has so many flavors.  I think I need just plain Photoshop.  When I click that, I get shotoshop CC.  I have zero desire to use the cloud for my photos.  I just want to run the pro

I just want to install photoshop to my PC so I can edit photos.  Does anyone have the link to do this?Photoshop General Discussion

Photoshop CC is not cloud based. It is installed from the cloud, but stays and runs on your computer. Where your files are stored as well.
For a beginner, you may be better off getting photoshop Elements as it hold your hand a bit to help you. Where as photoshop CC does have a steep learning curve since yes it is for pro's as well as those that want to take the time to learn it.

  • How can I save photos to iPhoto direct from Photoshop Elements

Does anyone know how I can save a photo direct to iPhoto after editing in PSE?  Currently I save to the desktop and then "import".  Its a bit of a fiddly way espectially if you  are editing a number of photos direct from iPhoto.  It would be nice to save them back to the relevant Event or Album.
    Regards

    This may help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 or later the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu.

  • Using photos from iphoto in adobe photoshop elements

I'm new to the mac world. I do a lot of casual digital photography. I like to edit pictures and create things in photoshop elements.
I'm trying to make sure I'm opening photos from the correct folder in the iphoto library.
I think either using photos in the modified or original photos is the proper way? Any input.
Also, can I create new folders within the iphoto library (finder side) to better organize my photos? I had pictures broken down by month on my pc and iphoto seems to only group by year. It makes locating the proper picture in photoshop elements easier if the pictures are broken down by month.
I know I can use folders and albums within iphoto, but those catagories don't show up when trying to open photos in elements.
    Thanks for your input!

    debo213:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There ias a caveat to using PSE with iPhoto. It is: if you create a layered file or do edits that causes PSE to want to save as a .psd file you must either flatten the file and force PSE to save as a jpg or do a Save As to the Desktop and import the new file. Subsequent edits to that new psd file from within iPhoto like Terence pointed out can proceed normally.
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Resetting iPhoto to Open as Photo Manager vs. Adobe Photoshop Elements

How do I reset iPhoto to open whenever I connect my SD card and have photos upload to iPhoto directly rather than to Adobe Photoshope Element's Bridge?
    Moms90

would that be reverting to default?
If you are referring to the "Revert to default" option for a modified photo--then no, that restores the "version" photo to the original "master" image. (I.e., modification of photos in iPhoto or Aperture is not applied permanently to the original photo so it unchanged in case you ever want/need to restore/re-modify it.)
I am referring to the "Preferences" window under the main application menu. If you click the "General" tab at the top of the preferences pane, the window displays a "Connecting camera opens;" line with a "pop-up" that allows you to select which application (e.g., iPhoto, Aperture, etc.) is to automatically open when the digital camera is detected.

  • Can't send photo from iPhoto 9 to Photoshop Elements 10.0

I just got a new iMac with Lion 10.7.2 and Photoshop Elements 10.0. In iPhoto 11. I set the preferences to use Photoshop Elements to edit photos. When I double click on a photo, Photoshop Elements Editor comes up, but there is no photo. There has been some discussion on this for earlier versions, but this is the latest available for both versions. I don't think I should have to go through hoops, trashing system files and stuff to get this to work.

Thank you. It worked. And it also explains why I always got the Adobe Photoshop Elements welcome screen evey time I opened Photoshop from the Dock. I had the wrong icon in the doc as well.
