Need to restore but can't cuz of password protect

i was listening to music and tried to open an app and the app crashed so i restarted my phone. when it started back up it says "restore needed iphone cannot make or receive calls"
so i plug it into my computer and itunes says "could not connect to your iphone because it is locked with a passcode, enter passcode to use itunes"
im very ****** off so can someone help me out on what to do

that was my problem. when itunes said enter passcode to continue, i couldn't because my phone said must restore.
i called support and they said i have to have the newest itunes (which i didn't) and she told me to use something called forceful recovery mode or something
1. turn phone off
2. start itunes
3. hold home button on phone
4. plug phone into computer and itunes will bypass the passcode entry
