Need to restore from and older backup because I lost all my contacts when I upgraded my phone

my backup that was created is saying it needs a password and I didn't give it one. Which password is it requesting? Also the second question is how do I restore from a old back up, I am needing to get my contacts back.

If the backup is asking for a password you may have turned on backup file encryption. If this is the case, and you don't remember the encryption password you could be out of luck.

I upgraded my I phone 4 and lost all my information, can I get it back?

You need to provide more details about what happened.  But, here is something you can check.
When you run Photo and it converts your library, it doesn't delete the iPhoto library.  Look in your Pictures folder - you should see two libraries:
iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary (this is the original iPhoto library)
Photos Library.photoslibrary (this is the new Photos library)
You should still be able to open the original iPhoto library.  The iPhoto application was not deleted from your computer.  (It was probably removed from your Dock if you had an icon there.)  Look in the Applications folder, find iPhoto, and run it.  It should show your original library with all your original images.
It is always a good idea to back up your photos (and the iPhoto library) before trying these migrations.  Problems do occur...
    Hope this helps.

Is there any way to restore from an older backup on an iPhone 4S? I need the one from about an hour ago!

If you have Time Machine and it ran after the backup you want and before the current backup you can restore it from the Time Machine backup.

Its a easy fix,it will take too much time to type out all of the steps,
Check your email account. see if they are their, You can then import them on your DAV card, The best thing to is add them to icoud then they will be safe.
Apple support can talk you through it.

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

No.  Anything that was created after your last backup will be gone.
Use iCloud to automatically backup your device, usually once every 24 hours.

  • Restoring from an older backup and then restoring to latest backup

Okay where to begin.... By removing an email account from my phone, I ended up deleting all my 'notes.' Unfortunately I had encrypted my backup and therfore cannot find a third party software that can restore just my notes. I also found how to rename an old back-up, then (after unchecking 'encrypt backup'!) create a new backup in order to have multiple backups. My plan is to now restore to my first backup, recover my notes, then restore to my latest backup. My concern is that I will lose the pictures from my camera awesome app that I have taken since my fist backup, or even the ones before. There seems to be issue access those pics through windows explorer. Through research I have found that I do not understand what is and what is not backed up (to the detail at least that I am concerned with i.e. photos within a particular app). So what can I expect if I move forward with my plan or is there a way I can just restore/view my notes from the original encrypted backup? By the way I do in fact remember the password for the encrypted backup.

    To quote myself:

  • Restoring From An Older Backup Than The Most Recent One Occurred.

    Hi,
Today I was backing up my iPod touch as per usual. I waited and waited (it took a fair while). When it finished I looked a the usage of the device and it had changed alot. I was very confused. I looked at my songs and they had all been wiped off. I went to restore the device to the latest backup but by the time I had done that the whole iPod had backed up again. This means I cannot find the backup before that.
My question is does it save older backups automatically anywhere?
    Thanks,
    Liam

Do you have a backup of your computer system from an earlier date?  If so you can replace the current backup file with the one from the earlier date and then restore that backup.  In Vista, your backup file is located in C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup (substitute your login name for user)

  • Question about restoring from Time Machine backup because of new SSD

    Hi,
I have a 15" Late 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.10.1 with a Toshiba hard drive inside. I want to replace the Toshiba HDD with a Crucial MX100 SSD. I use a Time Capsule to backup. After I install the SSD, I would want to restore my data to the new SSD using my Time Capsule, but I have a few questions:
    1) My Mac shipped with OS X 10.7; My Mac is running OS X 10.10.1; Should I use Internet Recovery to start the restore (even though when I start OS X Internet Recovery it will download 10.7 recovery), or should I use a USB drive to start Recovery?
    2) After booting into Recovery, do I format/partition the SSD into 1 partition, GUID partition table, Mac OS Extended Journaled, etc before restoring using Time Capsule?
    3) Do I need to use Trim? Please tell me your opinion on the OS X Yosemite and Cindori Trim Enabler controversy.
    4) How do I install Recovery HD on my new SSD?
    5) Please tell me all tips you have about this entire process.
    Thanks,
    Mike

The ability to load OS X Internet Recovery is provided by firmware independent of the SSD. Just make sure your MBP has the latest firmware, which was released years ago.
You won't need a separate step to install OS X. Answered more completely in (2).
Merely format the SSD Use Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) and as many partitions as you desire. One is sufficient.
Only Crucial can answer that. You might be better off purchasing a SSD from a company known to support Macs, such as OWC / MacSales. I have several of their SSD products and haven't had to devote a moment of thought to Trim.
That's done by virtue of the Recovery firmware. It will recognize that no Recovery partition exists and will create one, after which you won't have to use OS X Internet Recovery (though it will remain an option).
If you obtain your SSD from OWC that's really all you need to know. Mechanically, it's not much more complicated than installing memory. As far as recovering the original HD's contents, restoring from the Time Machine backup is also straightforward. TM doesn't know and doesn't care that it's a SSD.

  • My back up from last Thursday on my iphone 4s is not showing up in my itunes. I deleted something today and I need to restore from last Thursdays backup.

HP Pavilion dv7 Note Windows 7 Home edition

Have you backed up the device since last Thursday? If so, every time the iPhone does a backup, it overwrites the last backup. So the most current backup you have made is the one that shows in iTunes.
Your backup files are in a location on the computer, but you cannot compel iTunes to use it. This support document will show you the location. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946

  • Need to restore from pre-update backup.

A few days ago I did an OTA update of my BB OS.  All went well until today when I open Password Keeper for the first time since the update.  I got prompted that "A password entry created on 12/22/2009 is protected by an old password . . ."  I tried my current password and then a couple of other possibilities, to no avail.  12/22/2009 would have been about when I started playing with PK for the first time, so I figured that maybe there were some test entries that were tied to the first test password I used, so I selected the "Delete Entry" option . . . repeatedly, which never gives any confirmation that anything is happening.  After a while I thought "WTF?" and tried my current password again, which let me into PK.  Needless to say, it had whacked real passwords.
The best bet I can think of to get those passwords back is to find the backup that was automatically done during the OS update.  Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Chaz

    Hello,
You can find your backup files by searching your entire hard drive for files with IPD extension (*.IPD). The date/time stamps of the files will be your indicator of applicability to your situation. Then, you can use this procedure to perform your chosen restore -- use the second section (restore specific databases) rather than a wholesale restore. This KB documents the various database names that you should be able to choose from when you perform the selective restore.
As for what you are proposing -- I honestly have no idea if it will work, will have no effect, or will brick your BB. I actually don't use Password Keeper at all.

  • Need to restore from an encrypted backup, bu don't have password

Moving from an iPhone 5 to a 6. The backup I have was encrypted at some time and now I can't access it nor make a new backup to transfer to the new 6. What are my options now?

Which is, of course, the general idea of encryption.

  • I went to upload new music to my husbands phone (5c) which had never been plugged in to our computer. I accidentaly hit restore from old iphone, and now his phone is restored to his old iphone. He lost all new contacts, and photos, etc. Can he get this back?

It replaced everything with old phots, ringtones, sounds, and his homepage for safari is different.

Reset the phone in settings and when the set up gives you the option to back up from iTunes or iCloud. It's possible to get most of the lost information back if you back up from iCloud after resetting the phone.
