Need to restore iTunes after crash

I am running iTunes on XP Pro and had it set up nicely to sync with my iPhone. Then my computer crashed and I had to do a fresh OS install.
Now when I connect my iPhone to my PC and it startes up iTunes, I get a message saying that my iPhone usually syncs with a different computer and I think threatens to wipe my iPhone clean of apps, songs etc.
I do have a backup of my files from before the crash. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to recreate the relationship between my phone and iTunes? I'm guessing there are a few files that I can copy form the backups I made to the newly installed iTunes folders?
Thanks.

All iTunes content including 3rd party apps is stored in an iTunes named folder located in your Music folder.
If you included the iTunes named folder with your computer's backup, with iTunes quit place the iTunes named folder from your computer's backup in the same location - in your Music folder.
You will also need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.

  • Restoring itunes after a crash

    Hi, fellow itunes users!
A few months ago,I expierenced some major crashing problems. My computer went down, and I lost ALL of my files and docs, including itunes!
If you have any tips on how to restore it, that would be great!

Help! I think my Dell laptop memory maxed out while playing Holiday playlist, iTunes started skipping, so I closed everything out and powered down. This morning, iTunes came up totally empty, no playlists, nada... I did the restore iTunes library procedure a couple times, no luck either. I do have a remote HD with all music files backed up but don't think I have iTunes library files backed up. I might have prior iTunes library files from several years ago, but I've added tons of music and customized playlists in recent years. I suspect iTunes bonked when memory ceiling was reached, so I relieved the memory space condition. How do I restore my vast playlists? Any help much appreciated at Holiday time..

  • Lost hard drive -- need to restore iTunes song library from iPod

i recently purchased my first iPod and downloaded iTunes to my PC. I then loaded 850 songs from my collection of CDs. Shortly after, my hard drive crashed - completely unrecoverable. I bought a new PC (laptop) with Vista. Now i need to reload iTunes. Can i download all of my songs from my iPod onto my newly installed iTunes? I'm afraid that when I "synch" I will lose everything on my iPod since nothing will be in my iTunes library. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    do this:
To display hidden files and folders
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Double-click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Close the window and go to My Computer again.
    1. Click on your iPod's drive and go to iPod_Control
    2. Click now on Music and you'll see a few folders titled F00, F01, F02, etc.
    3. Click on a folder and highlight all the music, and drag them to Library in iTunes. You should now have all the music syncing, and most will be named correctly, but still some you will have to rename
**Also, it helps to have the second checkbox in Edit>Preferences>Advanced checked so that it makes a copy of your music file to an independent iTunes Music Folder.**
~~This being useful in that you'll be able to play all your music without having to have the iPod plugged in~~
    Does this help???

  • Itunes after crash

MY PC crashed and has been repaired, and I need to relaod iTunes. When I download iTunes, will all of my settings (username, password, sync settings, etc.) be restored?
Also, I have a back up of my music and podcasts on a separate pc external hard drive.  Can I drag and drop them back into my desktop pc, and will iTunes recognize them?
    Thanks for your response.

    hi bigredergib!
hmmm. the library information (playlists etc) is stored in the itunes library files. did you back up copies of those?
What are the iTunes Library files?
... it might be worth incorporating backing up those into your back-up regime. these Buegie posts are good resources on these matters:

  • P35 Neo2 - OS died, need help restoring RAID after re-install of XP

I have a P35 Neo2 with on-board Intel RAID.  I need a bit of help getting a two drive RAID going again after reinstalling XP.
    Here's my situation:
Same hardware, MB, etc. I originally set up the system with a 20gb IDE and two 320gb SATA drives. I put the OS on the 20gb, and set the two 320's up as a RAID. I partitioned the 320's into 200gb + 120gb sections on each drive. The 200gb partitions were mirrored between the two drives, and the remaining 120gb on each drive was used as non-RAID storage space.
I picked up a nasty virus-spyware a month or two ago that I was struggling to find a fix for when the OS began to BSOD. I put the 20gb IDE to the side, and put a 40gb IDE in it's place. I re-installed XP on it last night, and now need to get the RAID up and running again.
I went into Disk Management and it showed three dynamic drives with a yellow triangle icon and labeled 'foreign'. I right clicked and found an option to 'import'. I clicked on import and a window popped up showing all of the partitions and logical drives I had previously created on the two drive RAID. I figured I was in business, so I clicked OK.
Disk Management now shows one dynamic disk as 'Online', but still shows two as 'Foreign'. If I right click on them, and chose import, I get the same window showing my partitions and logical drives, but if I click OK, I get a warning message that: "Some of the volumes you are importing will lose data because you have not moved all of your disks to the system."
I'm in over my head at this point, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    GeoD

A 200gb partition is restored, but the 120gb is not, which is confusing. ALso, when I look at the logical drives in the partition, I'm beginning to think I had the 200gb mirror /120 gb storage backwards. The data restored is not something I would be concerned with losing. It's installed applications, and multimedia files that I could lose without worry.
There is also 70gb dynamic drive labeled Missing.  I know I left a small portion of all three of the drives unallocated as a reserve, so that must be what this is. It's like the RAID info is incomplete which leads me to the next piece of info.
Something I didn't initially mention for the sake of brevity, was when I right-clicked on 'Import Disk' the applet noted the disk was 3/3. I assumed that meant disk 3 of 3 disks. I've since begun to wonder if I imported the disks in the wrong order. ie) I should have imported disk 1/3 first.
Do you know how to clear out Disk Mgt's info, so I can start over?
I also noticed only one of the 320 SATA's shows up in Device Mgr, (DM). What I found both confused me and encouraged me.
When I created the array, I named the the drives RAID0 and RAID1. They both show up in DM. But only one of them shows up as the drive model: WDC WD3201ABYS-01B9A0. There should be two of them.
The OS knows there should be a RAID, but for some reason only one of the drives show up as hardware.  I rebooted and checked the data and power supply cables, (connected), the BIOS, (both drives show up) and both drives show up in Disk Mgt.  Just not in DM.
Does that mean the HD has died?
Part of my difficulty is I had a brain injury in 2001, followed by another in 2003. The 2nd injury caused 6 months of what the docs call it a walking coma - I walked and talked, but have no memory of the time.
When I 'woke up' in the Fall of 2003, I found I had lost considerable cognitive function and other problems.  These problem have ended up disabling me, (I'm now on SS Disability).
Until then I had been a 'System Admin' for micro-businesses, (max - 15 computers). I built systems and servers, installed networks, maintained them and did all the support. Basically I was these company's Sys Admin on an as-needed basis.
One thing I lost was the ability to troubleshoot and repair hardware. Combined with other cognitive problems, I was forced into closing my business. At the time, I was maintaining close to fifty offices; ~20 had Peer-to-Peer networks & ~20 had servers I had built.
What's doubly frustrating is I was just getting ready to sign up with an online backup service when I got hit with a nasty malware/virus that's so new there's no info on the 'net about it. I got entangled in trying to fix it and spaced out the online back up. Now I find myself in a situation where I desperately need to restore the data on these RAID drives.  Because of the memory problems I now have, I completely depend on my computer as an auxiliary 'brain' - I have stuff on these drives that I have to have.
I didn't do much with RAID when I was still in the biz, and this is the first time I've had problems with a RAID of my own, so I'm struggling to figure this stuff out.
Should I be able to install one of these drives by itself so I can get the data from it? The way I understand the theory of RAID is that if one drive dies, you can put another in and the mirrored portion will re-create itself on the new drive.  Couldn't that be a way to get the important data off the drive or drives if they don't want to go back together as a RAID?
I could back each up to the online service and then just rebuild them.  Not my first choice, but it would reduce my stress level if I thought I could do it.
Sorry to go on, but now you can see why I'm both struggling & worried.
Thanks for any info or help.
    Later,
    GeoD

  • I need to restore iTunes. Time Machine says OSx needs iTunes

I am trying to restore iTunes from backup drive but I get the message that OS X needs iTunes and then it does nothing.
I have a backup drive for TimeMachine with a partition for iTunes.

Why do you need to restore it?

  • I need to reinstall iTunes after uninstalling it on a power book g4 with os 10.4.11

I need to reinstall iTunes 9 after uninstalling it on a power book g4 with os 10.4. The iTunes version 9.2.1 cannot run on my apple, I already tried.

You should update your system to 10.4.11 if you haven't done so (your title says one thing and your signature another)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170
    - then you will be able to run iTunes 9.2.1 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056 - which should definitely run on 10.4.11 G4. It might be a good idea to run that updater anyway. Removing the built-in programs isn't a good idea and can sometimes upset your System. In extremis you may even need to reinstall from your original discs and then run the combo updater.

as per your profile, you're on 10.4.6.
i recommend you do the following:
    1) run +verify disk+ and +repair permission+ sessions using *disk utility*
    2) download and run the _*Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC)*_
    3) upon reboot, repair permissions again.
    4) run +software update+ from the  menu and install any updates that are offered
    5) reboot
    6) fire up iTunes
    any improvement ?

  • My iPhone doesn't want to restore on iTunes after crashing from updating to iOS 6.1.2

I keep getting countless errors and I need my phone back up and running asap

Well the phone was working fine just listening to music then it shut off completely and started relooping the apple logo. so I put it in DFU mode, connect it to itunes so that itunes can detect it being in recovery mode to be restored and updated. but after it was preparing for update I get errors 2001, then I would retry again and get 1600, I did recall getting 3014 when im doing the exact same thing over and over hoping it would go through with the process.

    Hi
Can anyone please help me with some advice about how to restore my iTunes purchases after my Mac crashed. Its a bit more complicated than it sounds given that I changed my Apple ID about 18months before the crash. All purchases under the current Appled ID have been restored. However, everything that I bought under my first Apple ID has not been restored.  How can i get this fixed?
    Thanks

If you can help restore my ITUNES I will make it worth your time. I have paypal. thanks. I will be more that happy to reward some one. Am at wits end.

I remember a lot of the songs I had. I did not know the computer had a problem (ITUNES was open at time of crash)and I saw that the screen was blue and had writing on it. I decided to shut it down. After 5 minutes I rebooted and discovered my itunes library had vanished. The logo is still on the desktop but all it says is that itunes cant be found unless you go to default MY MUSIC folder. It wasnt there. Jeff

  • Need help restoring iTunes Library and iPhoto Library after re-install???

some history, my 5 1/2 year old iMac started as Tiger, upgrade to Leopard and then to Snow Leopard...the latter being done after Snow Leopard came to market. Over a week ago I developed a Disk error that could not be fixed by the repair disk and everything else that Apple could come up with. The iMac at this point was pretty unresponsive. (It had been running great for years) Anyhow the decision was made to do a complete restore. Time Machine had made a backup just the previous day or two earlier plus I have close to 2 years of other SL backups. So per Apple, we did a full install of Leopard followed by a upgrade to Snow Leopard, followed by installing all the updates. We then reinstalled iWorks (with iTunes and iPhoto) and installed those updates as well. So now I had an empty itunes and iPhoto.....Now it gets confing for me! It was late at night and the Apple folks were shutting down. They simply said, Go to your last Time Machine back up date and hit restore and you will be all set. Well...what ever it restored, I can't find my music or photos. I called the next night, again it was late and we only had a short time but this person had me do a system Migration...to restore everything back to the way it was before......So now I have 100 gigs of everything I recognize from my applications to all the stuff in my User file and it would appear everthing else. The problem is....I can't find my old iPhoto library or my itunes library anywhere and I am scared to death that I have lost them despite all my Time Machine Back-ups. Worried and concerned!!! Bill

If you need to, you should be able to selective restore things from later backups, via the "Star Wars" display. See #15 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum)., if you're not sure how to do that.
I am going to watch like a hawk and if it does occur then I know I probably have some HD issues.
Good plan. You might want to run this: [Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509]. Run the Extended tests.
I also think I may do something like a Carbonite back-up in addition to my external HD.
That will be excruciatingly slow. See #27 in the FAQ for some other suggestions.
