Need to "restore/over write" data from ex Fire Wire to internal drive

Let me say up-front that I know little about computers. I backed up my internal drive to my external Fire Wire, as I was going to reinstall Tiger (don't ask me why. It seemed a good idea at the time). Without much thought I checked the clean/erase installation box. (using the Backup 3 download from .mac)
So, when I tried to restore my data, the new install has no record of ever backing up to my Fire Wire, and so won't accept a "Restore" command.
Is there any way I can get my start up drive to rewrite itself from my Fire Wire, or is it (A) a lost cause, or (B) The kind of thing that has to go to the shop?

I bought my computer four years ago, around this time of year. "About this Mac" says:

My External hard drive is listed under "ATA Bus". It's an IBM-1C35L.... there are more letters and numbers, but in case it's the serial number, I'm stopping here. In case they tell the model number, I'm hoping this is enough info to identify. The capasidy is 57.27 GB, with 44.1 GB available.
File System: Journeled HFS +
Don't know if this is too much info or not enough.
I will try the things you suggested (or, rather, get my friend to try as I'm pretty much afraid to touch my machine. When I backed-up, my iTunes should have had my music and video library, but even though my games and some other backed-up stuff is there, we haven't been able to bring up my Library's--they come up blank--I'm afraid that I mayhave done something to screw that up, so am leery of messing with my computer). If they do not work, I'll report it back here.
I'll also check back here later, in case my G4 model doesn't allow me to boot from an external drive.

Read and write data from / to cube in CUSTOM_LOGIC BADI

Here are the details:
BPC displays a set of details - with 5 rows and 5 columns. There are 50 additional rows for the 5 columns which are blank to start with.
User changes a cell. BPC 10 only sends that cell which is changed by the user in CUSTOM_LOGIC and WRITE_BACK BADIs.
I need to get other 5 X 5 cells (other than 1 cell, which is changed and being passed in the BADIs) details to determine all the details and calculate the additional 50 rows. After calculating these values, i need to update the cube so that the BPC report refreshes with the data i have updated.
Whats the best way? What are the funtion modules involved in reading / writing? Are there any best practices to read / write data from cube.

At the end of the code I have values updated in ct_data. The contents of ct_data will be automatically written to the cube (you don't need to have special code to write data).

My problem is the following: I have a Transactional Infocube (IC1) and a basic Infocube (IC2). They have both the same structure. IC2 is loaded with data and other data is keyed in IC1.
I would like to write data from IC2 to IC1 and eliminate data redundancy if there can be some.

Yes , you have to create a multiplanning area ..
In the planning level , filter the value which you want to copy from basic to transactional cube .
Fields to be changed : Planning area and others as per your need..
Field for condition : if you want to copy data from 2006 then give calyear as field for condition.
Parameter group : give the value 'from' as basic cube 'to' as your transactional cube ..

checkpoints do many thing
mainly write data from buffer cache to datafiles on checkpoints. ie it synchronizes buffer cache with data file.

We are using following Oracle 64 bit application.
Operating System: Sun Solaris 5.9
Database: Oracle 9i (64 bit)
Machine: Sun Server Spark V890
Now my questin is that I want to move data from the production database running in Oracle 9i 64bit on Sun server to Oracle 9i 32 bit on Windows Server 2002 thru database link.
I heard that it is not possible to write data from oracle 64 bit to oracle 32 bit, no matter what operating system we are using.
Please confirm me that whether we can write data through database link from Oracle 9i 64 bit to Oracle 32 bit.

Last night i was using my external hard drive, for some reason the folder just closed and i couldn't find it on my desktop.
After googling solutions, i found it in the disk utilities, i clicked on the 'repair' button many times, but it said the 'error...' message.
So i ejected it to try again, now when i connect the USB external hard drive it doesn't show up on my desktop or disk utilities.
I really just want to either repair or recover the data on it because it literally has everything (documents, work files, photos etc) on it,
I downloaded an application to recover my files but it needs the USB to at least show up.recognise it which mine doesn't.
I know i should've backed it up on another USB, this definitely teaches me for next time to back up all my files.
Are the files lost forever or can i recover them by going to a shop or using a software?
