Need to reuse /re-purpose a MacBook Pro
I have purchased a new MacBook Pro. I want to completely remove all files and/or personal information from an old MacBook Pro in order to be able to give the old MacBook Pro to another person. I have a backup of all files of importance to me. The current MacBook is several years old, although I am running Yosemite X OS, and have seen a degradation in performance since installing Yosemite. I would like to enhance the performance of the old MacBook Pro at the same time, but that is secondary to the re-format/erase/delete I am asking support for at the present time. I want to stress that I want all information erased/deleted/re-formatted etc to assure myself that no residual files are left on the old MacBook Pro.
Boot into recovery and wipe the drive then select reinstall OSX then when it brings you to the setup screen simply just turn off the mac and its ready to go
Here are more detailed instructions - OS X Yosemite: Erase and reinstall OS X

I have the G Drive 1 TB (GEN4 1TB) external drive purchased in 2010. I need to connect to my new MacBook Pro. I'm using the external drive for media storage of my video editing projects. Will a 800fw to thunderbolt adapter cable work? I understand that using a USB port connection is not fast enough for video editing. I read somewhere the G Drives don't connect well to MacBook Pro.
thanks
larryI doubt this can be relocated or moved so you might want to just repost in the macbook pro area.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:
G-Technology 1TB G-DRIVE mini High-Speed Portable Hard Drive
or this:

As the topic says,
What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
Help me out please.Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit. You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections. -
I have a license for CS6 on my MacBook Pro. I want to purchase an iMAC and be able to do my heavy duty Photoshop processing on this new iMAC when I am at home I need to keep CS6 on my MacBook Pro and use it when I travel. How can I have copies of CS6 on both machines. I am the only user of this software.
You can install and activate CS6 on both machines perfectly legally.

Keynote: need to install keynote in my MacBook Pro; the AppStore says I need to have OS X 10.7.4 but it also replies that my OS X 10.6.8. is already updated. What can I do?
You need to either upgrade your OS or buy install an iWork 09 DVD. If you're using a Core 2 Duo or better Mac with at least 2GB of RAM, it's cheaper to buy 10.7 or 10.8 unless you'll also need to upgrade any other software such as Microsoft Office 2004; neither OS supports PowerPC applications. If you're using a Core Duo Mac, you must buy the iWork 09 DVD.

What do I need to do to upgrade my macbook pro 17 from OS X 10.4.11 to OS X 10.5.8
Locate and purchase a copy of Leopard. They may be found on eBay and Amazon.com. Be sure to only purchase a retail package.
Or you can save a little money by upgrading to Snow Leopard which costs $29.00. If you dec8de to purchase Snow Leopard, you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. -
hey guyz i wanted to ask whether playing excessive (1-2 hours daily) need for speed carbon on my macbook pro using the arrow keys to control the car damage the arrow keys of the MBP??
pls answer asap i am worried..I don't think that you have to worry about arrow keys because they won't damage with their use (unless you hit heavily these keys). Using games, there are other things to worry, as the temperature of the Mac, but fans will turn on automatically when your Mac needs

My newish MacBook Air was just lost to a coffee spill, and I need to migrate back to my MacBook Pro using a recent back-up (Time Machine to external disk) for a few weeks. This same disk was used to back-up the Pro earlier, and to migrate from the Pro to the Air. Can I do this "back-migration" from the Air to the Pro? Is it maybe better just to migrate the specific folders (Outlook email, Office docs) I am sure I need?
Do not attempt to copy files/folders from a Time Machine backup. Only use the Time Machine application to restore from the backup.
Click on a Finder window and select Help from the Finder's Help menu. Search for "restore" and select "restore items backed up with time machine" from the hints list. You will find these two articles:
Recover items using Time Machine and Spotlight
If you use Time Machine to back up your Mac, you can use Time Machine with Spotlight to recover lost or deleted items.
Note: You can retrieve earlier versions of TextEdit documents from within TextEdit. For more information, see:
View and restore past versions of documents
Open a Finder window and type a search word or phrase in the search field in the upper-right corner.
Select a location to search in the location bar.
Refine the results by specifying search criteria. Narrow down Spotlight search results
Open the Time Machine menu in the menu bar, then choose Enter Time Machine.
Use the arrows and timeline to browse the Time Machine backups. Your search is performed in every window.
When you find the item you want to restore, select it, then click Restore.
The restored item is returned to its original location. For example, if the item was found in the Documents folder, it’s returned to the Documents folder.
Restore items backed up with Time Machine
If you use Time Machine to back up your Mac, you can easily bring back lost items or recover older versions of files.
You can use Time Machine within many apps. If the iCloud Documents & Data feature is turned on, you can recover older versions of iCloud documents as well as regular documents.
Open a window for the item you want to restore. For example, if you accidentally deleted a file from your Documents folder, open the Documents folder. To recover an email message, open your inbox in Mail. To recover an iCloud document, open the document’s app, choose File > Open, then click iCloud to view the iCloud documents for that app.If you’re missing an item from the desktop, you don’t need to open a window.
From the Time Machine menu in the menu bar, choose Enter Time Machine. A message may appear while your Mac connects to the backup disk.
Use the arrows and timeline to browse the snapshots and backups.White tick marks represent snapshots stored on your internal drive (portable computers only). Pink tick marks represent backups stored on your backup disk. If a tick mark appears dimmed or grayed, there’s no backup available or the backup disk is not connected.
For more information about an item, double-click it.The windows in Time Machine behave just like Finder windows, so you can open folders, click items in the sidebar, and use the search field in the upper-right corner of the window.
When you find the item you want to restore, select it, then click Restore. You can restore individual items, multiple items, folders, or your entire hard disk. The restored item is returned to its original location. For example, if the item was found in the Documents folder, it is returned to the Documents folder. -

If I already have iWork suite on my iPad, do I need to buy another for my MacBook Pro?
If I already have iWork suite on my iPad, do I need to buy another for my MacBook Pro, can i transfer to my new acbook pro?
The Mac version is a separate version from the iOS version and has top be paid for separately.
If you buy it from the Mac App Store (MAS) however it is quite cheap and can be installed on all your computers that use the same Apple ID.

I bought my macbook pro in march 2007. I am currently running osx 10.6.8, but want to upgrade to lion or mtn lion. Apple website says i need a mid 2007 or later macbook pro, how do I tell if my Macbook pro will support this upgrade?
The Mid-2007 model didn't come out until June 2007, so you must have bought an earlier model. It won't run Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x), but it might run Lion (10.7.x) if you can get hold of a copy, depending on which earlier model it is.
Lion requires at least a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The first MacBook Pros came out in January 2006, but they had "Core Duo" processors (no "2"). The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros came out in October 2006. You could have bought either in March 2007. -
I already purchased keynote on my ipad 3.do i need to purchase it for my macbook pro?or i can directly download it to my mac.please help.thanks
You would need to buy it again for the mac. If you buy an ios app then it will automatically download on all of your ios devices, however this is not the case for macs.
Hope it helps,
