Need to set a Password
I have a Model #WRT54G-V8 Linksys Router. I never set a password to keep my neighbors from accessing my router. I no longer have an Manual either. Can you help me set a password or a manual to do that ?

Type 192.168.1.1 in your browsers address field to access the Routers Admin page.
If you mean the Routers admin password, default is to leave username blank and type admin in the password field.
Other than that, you'd have to reset the router and reconfigure.
You'll have to refer to these links to do that.

thank youActually you can set a password, but the way to do it is a bit awkward.
Set up a separate user account and then using parental controls, set limitations for Safari.
We did this for my son(teenager) so he could only be on the internet while we are home.
When he tried to access Safari and a few other applications, it prompts for the Administrator name and password to allow access.

Need to set up password for airport express with belkin pre-N router
I can't figure out how to set up a WEP password for my wireless network at home. I tried setting it up using the AirPort Admin Utility, but no base station appeared on the menu. I'm using a Belkin Pre-N router. Any recommendations out there?
The AirPort Admin Utility is ONLY for use with Apple's base stations.
You will need to follow the directions in the Belkin's User Guide about using a web browser to change the configuration of the router and enable wireless encryption. If all of your equipment supports WPA, use WPA (with a non-dictionary password) instead of WEP. -

I usually use an etherenet connection to access the internet but set up a wireless connection using a dlink router, so I can use my smartphone and kindle in wifi mode. I am quite new to wifi etc...

When I am in system preferences > airport I notice my security says 'none' but others networks elsewhere (neighbours ?) say WEP or WPA personal.

I set a password ( I think ) through d link but this wouldn't allow me to use airport at all - even though it said airport was on it was greyed out and would not accept the password I had set for d link - error message kept appearing. Could not access this with phone or kindle. So I reset d link, now I can connect wirelessly but my security status is none.
Is there an easy way I can make my airport more secure?

(This is just an emulator, so you do have to make the changes on YOUR router screen, of course )
If so, under Setup, go to Wireless Settings on the left, Enable WIreless and give the network a name, and the Wireless Security Mode should be set to WPA2 (not WPA2-Auto), leave as TKIP, Personal, then type a new password twice. This will be your network password.
Click Save Settings at the top.

I need to set a MySql password
I need to set a password for the root user and create a second user account and set that password in MySQL 5.5.16 on my 10.6.8 mac mini. I know NOTHING about Terminal so I need super detailed. step by step instructions. I need to know exactly what to type, where and when I type it. Once I am done with this I don't need to do anything else in Terminal. I have a program that uses a MySQL database and it doesn't work completely unless it can log in with a password.

How can I set up password-protected Guest account
Hi everyone
I need to set up password-protected guest account. The aim is to get:
a) an account with password. So only authorized person can use it.
b) all changes in this account should be overwritten at log-off, just like Guest account behaves.
So I need either to find a way to set password for Guest, either create a 'normal' account and somehow automate it self-cleaning at logoff.
I tried to run terminal and use
sudo su
passwd Guest
[entering password 123]
Afterwards I can't login as Guest at all. System doesn't ask for a password, nor logs me in.

If there is not a way to add a password to guest account, what is the script that get's executed when the Guest account log's off? I can execute that on an account that I create called 'localGuest' or something like that.
I have an enterprising member of my family who has figured out that my computer is exempt from the network curfew and they are using Guest to bypass that. I have since disabled guest; however, I do like using the fresh guest environment to test software development. -

You need to set a password. So, do this:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

The user is a privilege user or not.
If you login as a privilege user, you get full access. No need to enable anything.

Long story short i need to set up a password for my links...
long story short i need to set up a password for my linksys wireless router... i tried go to linksys' website link i went ahead and set up a password using instructions from the link above...went to http://192.168.1.1/...clicked on admin tab and set up password... to test out my password i turned on/off my wireless connection on my macbook. when i turned it back on and selected the linksys wireless connection from the dropdown menu on my macbook it did NOT prompt me for a password? what am i doing wrong? why isnt it asking me for a password?

In other words, you must know this password to make changes to the configuration of the router. It is not the encryption key for wireless security. Wireless security is configured on the Wireless Security tab.

Are you sure it doesn't have iOS 7 installed? It sounds like Activation Lock is on and if that is the case, when you do Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content & Settings, you need to enter the password for the Apple ID.

Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?
Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.
