Need to slide audio track on 3.0 to synch with video

I use PE 3.0. From a flash drive, I have captured a news segment from a broadcast TV station. I put it on the timeline to clean it up after which I then need to export to a DVD. The video and audio are out of synch by a few frames--"lip flap" as we used to call it in the biz.
I would like to drag the audio clip on the timeline just a few frames to the right or left to see if I can synch it, but when I try to drag the audio the video goes right with it. Any way to unlock the two? Thanks, Hank

Other than a bit of careful watching and listening, it should go well. I usually forget to turn Snap back on, until I wonder why my Clips don't, well Snap.
Obviously, this works with a constant OOS issue. If one has "drifting" sync problems, you can do this in several places. As an example, let's say that we have a 10 min. Clip. The sync is good in the first min., but starts to drift. At the last point where sync is good, Razor the Clip and apply the above technique. Note: it might be easiest to separate the Clips, just for working, in case one needs to move the Audio earlier (to the left). In a very few instances, where all of the Audio needed to be retained, I've added a 01 sec. Black Video, and done a Dip-to-Black on either side of it. Usually, however, if the Audio goes earlier (to the left), the preceeding Audio can be shortened to accommodate it, or that new Clip's Audio can be shortenend slightly.
One then proceeds to the next spot, where the sync has drifted noticeably and then they repeat.
Usually with file format OOS issues, it's constant. I had a few dozen Clips that were all OOS by exactly 12 frames. Drifting sync can be done, but as you see there are a few more consideratios and more work. Drifting is often caused by sample-rate differences between the source files' Audio and the NLE. That's one reason that I like to get my Audio at 48KHz 16-bit and my Video at DV-AVI Type II, before I Import.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Moving audio tracks to on 2nd layer synch with video clip on first layer

Hi all; greetings to Tom, Ian B and Piero - and many thanks to all for your help in the past. My question is I want to overlay a video clip as a second layer in FCE and sync up the sound with the first. The first layer is a video of a song, the second layer I want to add has different video - 3 short clips as 3 short .MOV files - but same sound track. So I need to EXACTLY match the sound of the second to the lips of the singer in the first. Can any one help me to figure out how can I slip the audio track left and right easily and precisely. I have done it in iMovie by dragging the sound bar but need to use FCE this time. Many thanks to all as always.

Unlink the audio and video tracks.
Select the track/s you want to move and hit the + or - key.
A box appears under the Timeline Ruler, type in a value to move the track/s forward or back then hit Enter/Return to activate the change.
eg. +1 is one frame forward.
Note: The clips won't move if there are other clips in the way preventing movement.

  • Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Central

Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Centralk I have a very important video I took that runs fine in Vado Central. However, when I try transferring it anywhere else (Facebook, Photobucket, iMovie) the audio speeds up and makes my son sound like a chipmunk.
My computer is a MacBook OS 0.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 processor, 2GB memory, which should meet the system requirements.
I've been going back and forth with customer-no-service and their last suggestion was that there's nothing wrong with the camera or Vado Central and that Facebook, Photobucket and iMovie must all be independently having the exact same problem
I'm very frustrated and unhappy. This camera is only 2 months old, but it's too late for me to return it and right now it's worthless to me. Worst of all, my very important video is ruined. Anybody have any suggestions

Yes, it sounds the same (too fast) no matter what computer we try it from. I've tried burning a DVD every way I can think of and when we try to play it on our DVD player we still have chipmunk audio.
I am BEYOND frustrated with Vado's customer-no-service. They keep insisting that since it will play in Vado Central I don't have a problem. I bought this camera so that I could share video with my family that's across the country. What am I supposed to do now, mail them the camera?! It's absurd!

  • How have I lost the  green Audio track that used to be below the Video clips?

    QUESTION!
    1. Where has my Audio Track gone?
    2. How can I get the Projects to stay where I put them in the Library. OK I can tell the latest to Go to the top - so why cannot I say Stay in Title order.

  • .mp4 file only imports audio track into assets. Where is the video?

I have a 1080p WMV file that I converted to MPEG H.264 using MPEG Streamclip for use in DVD Studio Pro. When I import the file into DVD SP I only get the audio track. I opened the file in Quicktime Player just to make sure that I didn't export it incorrectly and the audio and video are both there. What am I doing wrong in DVD SP that is preventing the video from importing?

As long as you're converting the original for DVD, try exporting to MPEG2.

  • Why is audio out-of-synch with video on VOB files

I used a Pioneer DVR to import ~120 8mm and Hi8mm and Digital8 analog tapes to convert them to DVD's.  These ~120 DVD's are in VOB format.  These are 4:3 video (not HD).  I did test this flow and didn't notice a few of the VOB's did not have the audio tracking properly.
When importing them into Premiere Elements 8.01 some of the VOB files have their audio out of synch with the video, yet, they play okay in the Premiere preview window.
Is there a setting so that when it 'conforms', that it will track the audio correctly?
Do I need to buy a conversion tool to go from VOB to mpeg-2 (or other format?) and then import to Premiere Elements 8?
Is there a better video editing tool to use?
I simply want to take all these 8mm tapes / DVD's to splice the best scenes.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory; and installed an ATI HD-4350 pcie gen2 graphics card. I have a memorex bluray dvd player.

  • Audio moves out of sync or alignment with video after moving clip

I have a video clip with it's detached audio on the secondary timeline.  The audio has been broken apart so that I can edit each individual audio track.  But I still want to keep the audio linked and synced with the video.  When I select the audio and video and move the clip, the audio moves out of sync(by a frame or two), and isn't locked directly under the video the way it should be, or the way it was before I moved the clip.  I notice this when I zoom in really close and the audio tracks are a frame or two off.  In some cases, the audio tracks get increasingly out of sync the more I move the clip.  This shouldn't happen when I select everything together.  Has anyone ever experienced this or is there a solution to avoid the audio getting out of perfect alignment with the video?  Thanks

Yes, it would probably be best to just turn it into a compound clip.  I'm relatively new to FCP X, and I'm coming from FCP 7.  In FCP 7, I like being able to see both channels of audio under each clip.  So, what I do is adjust the audio levels for each channel separately.  I might add keyframes to one channel and leave the other channel alone.  In FCP X, it seems like the only way to edit or adjust the separate channels is by breaking apart the audio.  Then I can see both channels of audio and I can add key frames, etc.  So, I just need to be able to see and edit both audio channels, independently.

  • Audio not synching with video when capturing

When capturing video from my Sony DV camera, the audio is always out of synch with the video which has forced me to move the audio in the timeline to manually synch. The amount by which it's out of synch seems to vary, i.e. not always out of synch by the same number frames.
I'm sure there's a capture setting to fix it but have yet to locate it.
    Thanks.

A separate issue perhaps, but after my recent upgrade to CS6 I need to render out a stacked 18 minute timeline done in CS5 (Win 7/Matrox MXO2). All 7 tracks of audio are out of synch 8 frames late.  When it comes to common backwards compatibility issues that I feared, it's a pretty simple fix after a render, unlink and re-render.   I don't see this mentioned in the archives, so if anyone has an explanation or quick fix I'd appreciate hearing about it.

  • InstantOn DVD - Audio out of Synch with Video

    Hi
I have a MegaPC 865 Pro.  I am having problems with the InstantOn DVD Player.  The Audio is out of synch with the video. (the Audio is slower than the Video).  It happens on both analog and digital spdif out modes.

  • Audio not in synch with video when mov files played in QT 7.6

When I play .mov files stored in an iPhoto 08 photo library, the audio is not in synch with the video. People's lips move and the audio comes out a second or so later. This is a relatively new problem, and I don't have the same problem when I play .avi files. A couple weeks ago, the audio and video were good and they were synchronized. The video in the .mov files is also choppy. The video plays for a few seconds, briefly pauses, and then starts again.
    Appreciate any suggestions.

I'm not sure this is the issue. The video files were never in iMovie. Only imported into the iPhoto libaray from my Kodak M1033 camera. A few weeks ago, I did not have an issue with .mov files playing smoothly. Perhaps there was a recent update to QT?
When I upload the .mov clips to Flickr (www.flickr.com) or YouTube, they play just fine, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

  • Audio out of synch with video

    I've created a very lengthy (350+ slides)
presentation with audio on each slide. However, about 1/4 of the
way through the finished project, the audio lags way behind. Does
    anyone have any workarounds?

I have the same issues as well. (see my post today:  Audio Timing with publishing AVI files)
My video is only 50 slides long.
Adobe Support wondered if my document was corrupt, so I built a brand new demo, and got the same results.
Reformated my hard drive, added more RAM, nothing worked so far!
Are you using text to speech?  I am, and I wonder if that is the issue.
Captiv8r just suggested I experiment with frame rates, which I will try next.
Good luck, and let me know what you find.
It would be interesting to see if we have similar setups.

  • FLV in rollover slidelet: audio just barely not synched with video

I have several FLVs (slide videos) in my project (65 slides total) and all work perfectly except for the one that appears in a rollover slidelet. The audio just barely lags the speakers lip movement. This occurs in both Preview and Publish. I've tried various setting for the FLV and slidelet but haven't been able to get it synched up. Further complicating this is the fact that applying the 5.0.2.630 patch has essentially blown up my Captivate install (I have a separate post on that) and now sometimes when I preview this slide or view the published project, no audio at all plays. I have seen some posts indicating that these sorts of issues occur depending on system processing speeds but my system meets the Tech Specs for Cap 5.0 so I am not sure how that relates. I also wonder how I can anticipate what will happen for end users; there are probably some specs out there about that, but I admit I haven't dug those up yet. Below are the settings I'm using for the rollover slidelet. Thanks.

I'm wondering if I should update my bios. To date, I've done the following:
Upgraded  from 6 gigs of ram to 24 gigs of DDR3 1600
Added three hard drives with two of them on Raid 0. Total is 5 hard drives
Just picked up a PNY GTX-470 display adaptor
    Upgraded to CS5
This thing should be halling ***! But Multi-Camera mode is still very sluggish.

  • Imported dvd into premiere pro 2014 as a linked file with audio and video but audio from previous editing file is playing with video

I am editing in premiere pro 2014 on a windows 8.1 system with 12 mega byes of ram.  I imported a dvd into premiere from a .f4v that was
    burned using freemakevideo converter.
I imported the DVD into premiere and the audio that is playing is from an previous project I edited with the program, as oppose
to, the audio that is linked with the video imported.
Do you know why this is?  I cleaned my media cache and I rebooted my machine.
    Please help

Without knowing the specs of your videos it is hard to say. I'm also running a Mac and am having no such issues.
My first thought is that you have something from a 3rd party installed that is causing conflicts. If all else fails try transcoding your mp4 files to a frame based codec using the Adobe Media Encoder. Pick one of the Apple production codecs or Jpeg compressed QuickTime.
Are you running a ram preview? Did you render your Premiere timeline? Are you new to AE?
