Need to sync my iPod Touch in a new Installation of Snow Leopard

Hi! I've recently re-installed Snow Leopard in my MacBook. I installed iTunes 9.2.1 (5) and when I plug my iPod Touch (2G, iOS4), iTunes ask me to clear all data.
I really need to have the content of my iPod Touch not modified. What can I do?

to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod - hold down the option and the command keys when plugging in the iPod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes.
alternatively, launch iTunes first and go preferences > devices and put a tick in the box next to +prevent iPods, ... from syncing automatically+.

I somehow suspect this is not what you mean:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420 - and another helpful post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17828050
This is more likely what you mean:
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.
Basically what the above is saying is you should transfer your itunes library from your other computer, not try to do it from the iPoad.

I have a new computer and need to sync my iPod touch.  I get a message telling me that all existing apps and their data will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library.  Does that mean I lose all game progress?

    Yes.
What you need to do is Transfer the iTunes Library from your Old computer to your New computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
Backup iTunes to an External Drive
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

  • I can't sync my iPod Touch with my new Macbook.

I'm having trouble syncing my iPod touch with my new Macbook Air and I don't know what to do. I've managed to get all my music and films etc. off my old iTunes library but when I plug my iPod into the computer, it doesn't come up with the typical 'erase/replace or transfer' message that you get when you plug it into other computers. Someone please help because it is driving me insane. The iPod was originally synced with a Windows computer and I think this might be what is causing my problem but I really need help fixing it. Thanks!

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to new computer.

I  tried to sync my iPod touch to a new MacPro laptop and it deleted all of my music and videos. I called tech support and they told me to email iTunes and they would give it back to me. How do I do this??

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • How do i sync my ipod touch to a new pc, as i can no longer get on my old laptop?

How do i sync my ipod touch to a new pc, as i can no longer get on my old laptop.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Have you failed to do this?  not good.
You can transfer itunes purchases form an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases
You can enter a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer.  you should get the option to merge.
You can import any pics taken with the ipod, and e-mail any pics synced to the ipod to yourself.
The ipod is not a storage/backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which you sync.

You can sync with one and only one computer at a time.  Sycning to another will indeed erase the content from the ipod and replace with content from the new computer.
You should copy everything from the old computer to the new one.

  • How do I correctly go about syncing my iPod touch to a new library?

Hi, I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch. Back in 2009, I synced it up to a pretty old computer. At the time, the newest version of iTunes worked perfectly on it. But since a few months after that, my computer was not able to support the most current version of iTunes available at the time. After a while of trial and error, I gave up on syncing my iPod Touch to the computer. But now, I have ordered a 5th generation iPod touch, and would like to transfer what was on my old iPod, to it. I do have a different (and newer) computer that I am now wanting to sync up both iPods to, so they could share information. I'm thinking I need to re-sync my old iPod to my old computer and transfer all the new apps, songs, and what not. But I'm not sure what to exactly do after that. If syncing to a new library only erases songs and video, I could put them on a USB and download them to my new computer. So when I sync my old iPod to the new computer, the erased data would be already there. And I could just re- download it. The main problem with my theory is, I'm not sure what syncing to a new library actually does to an iPod Touch, or any iPod for that matter. I've been anxious about this, since my iPod Touch is very important to me. I've been using it almost everyday since I first received it. Any help on this would would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

I tried to sync my iPod to my laptop because i was on holidays and found out i needed to download all of the apps that were on my iPod into to the AppStore before i plugged my iPod into it otherwise when you sync it, it will copy what apps are on the computer/laptop AppStore (if there arent any it wll erase all of the apps on your iPod) so just simply download all of the apps that are on your iPod on to your computer and then sync it but remember to set up a backup! (i dont know how to set up a backup so dont ask me) Good Luck !

  • Why can't I sync my iPod touch with a new computer without deleting everything?

I recently got a new laptop, but now when I try to sync my iPod touch, it says "The iPod "Jessica's iPod" could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPod". I have authorized my computer, and when I try to authorize it again it says "This computer is already authorized".

    Maybe:

One you sort the Authorization out you have to do the following to lose the content on the iPod

However when I try and authorize my computer I always receive the message that this computer is authorized. What am I doing wrong?  I'm missing about 100 songs as a result of this error!!

  • Want to transfer data and sync my iPod touch to a new computer

I have a new computer running Windows 7 and would like to sync my iPod touch to it now instead of my older computer running Windows XP. How can I transfer all my music, playlists, album art, apps, contacts, and other settings from the old machine to the new one? I connected my iPod to the new computer after I installed iTunes on it and got a message saying this iPod was already synced to another computer. I was able to get all the songs that I have purchased on iTunes, but the bulk of my music collection is from CDs that I own. I really don't want to have to import them into iTunes all over again on the new computer. Surely there is a way to transfer everything from one computer to another. Would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

    Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Transfer non-iTunes purchased music by using one of the third-party programs discussed in ths previus discussion:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Move/copy the iPod backup from the old computer .  It is located here:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    - One you move the stuff to the new computer, restore the iPod from backup and sync.

  • Can I sync my ipod touch to my new iPad?

Is it possible to sync games from my current ipod touch to my new iPad. There are some games that I would like to move to the new ipad.

You can't sync iDevices directly by connecting them with a cable.
You can transfer your app and game purchases into iTunes on your computer, backup the Touch and then restore the iPad from the Touch backup and sync with iTunes in order to transfer the games and the game data onto the new iPad.
You should probably check out these in articles.

  • Need help sync'ing iPod Touch (not authorized error)

I have an iPod Touch (about year old not sure if 4th or 5th Gen), iOS 8.1.2.  I used to be able to sync everything fine with Windows ITunes on my old desktop, but when I got a new desktop I can't sync (more precisely I can't "Apply" updates to apps).  When I go to the device's Apps tab on the left of ITunes interface, I click the "UPDATE" button on an app (Temple Run 2), it changes to "Will Update", then I click "Apply".  During the sync it says
"The iPod "name" could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are not on this iPod.  To authorize this computer fro items purchased from the ITunes Store, choose Store>Authorize This Computer."
I know this question has been asked by others, and I've tried many things including deauthorizing and reauthorizing, going into hidden files and deleting the SC Data folder, signing in with another of my ITunes accounts, using the "Manage Deivces" section of My Account, etc.  None of it works. (Note: In Manage Devices, I see the iPod in question, but I renamed recently and it still shows as the old name in "ITunes Manage Devices" - I am afraid to delete it and add it back under the new name because I don't know what good or bad would happen if I do)
So, is there another idea out there?  I would do a hard reset on the iPod, but I am afraid I;ll lose all the data for each app, especially game progress.
    Any ideas to troubleshoot this?
    Thank you,
    Mike

Yes, thanks, that's one of the first things I went through.  Did all the Windows-related steps there and still have the same problem.
