How to synchronize iTunes on 2 computer
Hi,
I got myself a second computer, and now I'm looking for a way to synchronize iTunes between them. The main reason is that I would like to be able to charge my iPod on both of them, and still have the same music on it.
I know that I could just copy the iTunes Music folder from one computer to another, but what then? What is the easiest way to achieve that? I do have a backup program somewhere, which I got with my LaCie DVD-Writer, but I would prefer if there was an Apple program that could do that. Will not the second, new Mac also try to take control of the iPod, since (it used to be) Apple iPod philosophy dictate that an iPod may be linked to only one Mac/computer at a time?
I am pretty sure it'd be a chore to have to re-assign the iPod to each computer each time you plugged it in from one to the other.
In which case, he would need to hold down the Command-Option keys when attaching the iPod to the second Mac, or else, if iTunes 7.5 or newer, select the 'new' (but really used to be available in older versions) Preference to Not Sync iPods? And finally, select on the newer Mac to Not auto start, and Not auto sync.
This topic is interesting to me, because one of the folks I help has a new MacBook and just received a brand new iPod Nano for Xmas. So this issue will come up for us soon.
P.S. there is also a product called Syncopation ($25) that says it will keep several Mac's iTunes in sync. Though I have not tried this.
P.S. 2
I just checked at an Apple iPod FAQ page and found following, which may (or not) be useful.
Question: I have a computer at home and one at work. Can I update my iPod music collection from more than one computer?
Answer: Yes. When you first connect iPod to your computer, iPod recognizes that computer as its "home" computer. Each time you connect, iPod automatically downloads the music library stored on it. When you connect iPod to a different computer, iTunes will inform you that iPod is linked to a different iTunes library and will ask whether you wish to erase iPod's contents and sync with the new computer's library. If you will be connecting to multiple computers frequently, configure your iPod to manually manage music. This will allow you to selectively drag songs, albums, or playlists from the second computer to your iPod without compromising the existing music.
Synchronization generally occurs only in one direction, from your computer to your iPod. This means you typically cannot transfer music, automatically or manually, from your iPod to a computer, and you cannot use iPod to copy a music library from one computer to another. "

I am having a very difficult time with accessing my music from the cloud. I need to have itunes open on my laptop in order for it to work. And as soon as I close out itunes on my laptop, it gives me a warning that all users will be logged out. Help!!!
Where are iTunes files located?
No, I do not mean just the music. Copying just the media/music files or the media folder creates problems. -
and need the new iTunes 11.1 to be able to use my iPhone on iTunes but I need the new mac software update OXS 10.6.8, but my mac doesn't need or have an update what should I do! I'm upset :'(
The requirements for iTunes:
Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
Your Mac must be able to run OSX 10.6.8. If you can run that OSX then you can run iTunes 11.1.
Which Mac do you have?

after clicking "yes" to the question "do you want to update itunes now", i waited 2 hours and 15 minutes and it was still "loading". i turned computer off thinking something was wrong. now itunes won't open at all. do i need to download itunes again?
Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update. You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time. And of course make a backup of your whole library first. It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates. Better safe... -
I cannot get my new Ipad to be recognised in ITunes so I can Sync my library... I have re-loaded Itunes 64bit but it still comes up with an error saying that I need to load Itunes 64 bit before this Ipad will be recognised... any ideas?
I just found that I can't Sync my Iphone either and it gave the same error code.... it must be a ITunes problem.

This is the third time of writing this on your Apple Support Communities!
Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do. -
I had an iPad2 and use a PC with windows xp to synchronize iTunes. Now i have a Mackbook Pro. How do I synchronize my Ipad to the new macbook without losing all my data?

Do I need to open itunes in the original account to use Home Sharing?
I want to share my itunes library with other users in the same imac (other accounts). If I don't open itunes they can't see the library. How can I solve this, my account is not always active. Thanks!
Thank you very much! This confirms me that I need to open itunes in my account to let the others access to my library and playlists. This helps to understand how it works but it doesn't make me happy. I don't always have my account active, even less itunes open. I expected that it could work like iphoto, that all the users can access, independently if the I'm logged in or not.
It's an improvement suggestion to Apple, to make itunes libraries work like iphoto.
Thanks!!

I am trying to update my iPhone software but to do so I needed to update iTunes. When I try to do that, I keep getting this error message" "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not....
Try the following user tip:

I now have an iPad and want to know do I still need to have iTunes on my pc?
Need to..? Probably not, at least not if it is running iOS 5. In principle you can set up the device with a working Wi-Fi connection to the Internet, back it up to iCloud and download future updates independently of iTunes. However you still need iTunes to transfer non-iTunes Store purchased media to the device so you may find iTunes still has its uses.
Depending on what region you are in you can download previously purchased apps, books, music and TV shows as often as you like (provided they are still available in the store) but movies and (strangely) audiobooks are still on a one time only download, so it you have any of these, or plan to, then a connection to iTunes will be the only way to backup those items.
